Re: TCU's March to Legendary Status
Big XII Championship Game Recap: TCU Holds Off Kansas State for 6th Big XII Title
In a hard-fought battle on December 13, 2025, the No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs defended their Big XII Championship title with a 20-14 victory over No. 5 Kansas State at AT&T Stadium. The win marks TCU’s sixth Big XII title and their 12th conference championship overall, propelling them into the College Football Playoff for the second consecutive year.
TCU quarterback Josh Hoover showcased poise and efficiency, delivering a 154.8 passer rating with 329 passing yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. Hoover also contributed with his legs, scoring a crucial 5-yard rushing touchdown. Despite facing relentless pressure that resulted in three sacks, Hoover’s composure was instrumental in guiding the Horned Frogs to victory.
The TCU rushing attack struggled against Kansas State’s stout front, as Jeremy Payne managed only 30 yards on seven carries. However, the passing game picked up the slack, led by Braylon James with 120 yards on 12 receptions. DJ Rogers added 71 yards and a touchdown through the air, providing key offensive support.
Defensively, TCU made timely plays, recording two sacks and two critical interceptions, both by senior free safety Bud Clark. These turnovers proved pivotal in halting Kansas State’s drives and maintaining the Horned Frogs' lead.
Kansas State’s Heisman finalist quarterback Avery Johnson had an up-and-down night, throwing for 264 yards and one touchdown but was hampered by the two interceptions. Running back DJ Giddens was held to 58 yards on 12 carries, while wide receiver Quenton Rice led the Wildcats with 80 receiving yards on seven catches.
Kansas State’s defense kept the game close, registering an impressive 10 tackles for loss and three sacks. However, they couldn’t come up with a turnover to tip the scales in their favor.
The victory secures TCU’s spot in the second year of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, with their next game scheduled for January 1, 2026, in a bowl game yet to be determined.
