Re: NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details Revealed - MySTAFF, Staff Carousel, Prep Hub, Attributes,
Wow this was boring and expected quite frankly. Wonder if they actually got a full roster of assistants along with this, because it sounds like creating something that takes a lot of work that will have little impact or too much if you want to just focus on the rotations, main staff and games.Comment

Re: NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details Revealed - MySTAFF, Staff Carousel, Prep Hub, Attributes,
Yeah, given that the Play-In was introduced prior to 2k21's release, I assumed that it would've been at the top of the list in terms of new features for MyCAREER / MyNBA. Maybe it was and we'll get it, but I would've expected them to hype it up in the MyNBA blog (assuming there won't be a Part 2).
Some considerations though: The NBA just formally confirmed that the Play-In will be back, so maybe 2k wanted to let it settle a bit in real life before really going all out on trying to integrate it. For instance, they would presumably want the Play-In to be accounted for in the Harlan & gang commentary, and I would understand if they wanted to hold back on having people record a bunch of a stuff before the league has affirmed its commitment to the Play-In. That said, I see no reason why the mechanics themselves couldn't have been added anyway, just as an option when you're setting up your league (like when you're picking Games per Season, Playoffs as Best of 5 or 7, etc.) -- and maybe they have, or maybe that too would've been too difficult to be worth it if the league had nixed the Play-In for '21-22.
[EDIT: Wait a sec, was the Play-In actually in 2k21 next-gen and I just had no idea?]
As for what they did add, any big investment in adding depth to franchise mode gets a standing ovation from me, even if it wasn't at the top of my list. A couple things I'd like to have seen as part of MyStaff (unless I skimmed over them in the blog) is Create-A-Staff (i.e., so we have more flexibility in terms of their appearance) and Staff DNA (so we can pool our efforts and easily download niche staff members; like, as a Warriors fan I might go through the trouble of making Chris DeMarco, but no Magic fan is, though ideally that person would be able to download mine). What they did add is excellent in principle though.
The only thing that worries me is that 2k has had a poor track record lately in terms of aspects of the game that involve players evolving in any way, most notably Player Progression/Regression. Like...
...this actually terrifies me, because guys like CelticLG put so much work into getting the tendencies right, so if the 2k AI were to try and evolve all of the tendencies in the offseason, it would in all likelihood demolish all of that work and throw everything out of balance again.Oh yeah, I forgot about manually adjusting player tendencies across the whole league as time passed so that offensive usage, shot charts and such kept up with player development and regression within teams.
So much manual work for a mutli-year offline sim experience, and the logic and coding are hard to do. So they don't do it, there aren't enough of us and we don't pay micro-transactions much.
Tying it back to MyStaff, if stuff like Progression/Regression are still screwed up, then the MyStaff mechanics -- even if well-executed in and of themselves -- could make things even more screwy, and if the MyStaff mechanics are out of whack or OP too, then it could be total chaos. Like, I hope you can't hire an A+ Shot Doctor and have Ben Simmons in the 3pt Contest after a year or two.
I don't expect that current/last gen will have all this stuff, but I wouldn't half-mind just watching from afar to see how well these new features are working. I know that sounds sours-grapesy, and indeed if current/last gen had all this, I'd love having something new to tinker with, but for those of us who find a balance we like and then start progressing through actual seasons & offseasons, adding more to the progression/regression mix is scary!Last edited by vetmin; 09-08-2021, 01:58 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details Revealed - MySTAFF, Staff Carousel, Prep Hub, Attributes,
While I love the staff additions, I will admit that I’m very underwhelmed with this blog.
Fine tuning is great, but I was really hoping for some presentation elements to really be at the forefront of improvement.
I’ll still spend 85% of my time in MyNBA , but damn I set myself up for failure by expecting more.

Conditional coaching sounds like a great add-in. Everything else is meh to me and overall pretty underwhelmingComment

Re: NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details Revealed - MySTAFF, Staff Carousel, Prep Hub, Attributes,
I wonder if the spreadsheets include player awards. Ever since 2k16 they really cut down on award history details.Better spreadsheets are literally the best thing about this.
MyStaff improvement is cool but feels better overcomplicated and I REALLY doubt that the AI will do a good job managing all that for every team.
Honestly, I expected more. Mostly regarding the broken morale/chemistry system, the broken Mentoring system, the broken G league system, the Play In Tournament…
In 2k16 we had Finals Mvp's, Scoring leaders, assist leaders, rebound readers all included in award histories. After 2k16 none of those were included in award histories.
If they add that stuff back I'll be impressedComment

Re: NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details Revealed - MySTAFF, Staff Carousel, Prep Hub, Attributes,
Just to be clear, are you assuming that it is in or that it isn't in?Didn't they clearly communicate that it will come back this year, when the schedule is back to normal? I don't feel like that would be worth a announcement.
I like the coaching staff update, but it would be great if they would add more real coaches so it makes more fun to manage the coaching staffs. In the end you always rotate the same assistant coaches to head coaching job every save game.DSM Transfer.

As long as they give us thr option to turn it off in rule changes, I'm fine. Never thought that the basic nba season needs to be overly complicatedComment

It took a jump to next-gen for 2K to update the frame, font, and line spacing they use in their *Roster.
*MyNBA Roster. Let's see if they actually improved the Roster Tool which currently displays 5 players. For context this is how much dead space there currently is:Attached FilesNBA 2K25 Roster: Real 2K Rosters - Modern Era

Re: NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details Revealed - MySTAFF, Staff Carousel, Prep Hub, Attributes,
Kind of underwhelmed...was looking forward to some sort of offseason tweaks & immersion for the Draft & Free Agency.
I do like the upgrades to MyStaff, but I've never liked the progression system 2K uses...still doesn't look appealing to me but we'll see.
Still waiting for my dream feature being the inclusion of FIBA/Olympics during the offseason.
Hopefully 'Start Today' with custom rosters makes a return!
Another year

Re: NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details Revealed - MySTAFF, Staff Carousel, Prep Hub, Attributes,
Seems like the mode will be completely unchanged outside of the staff features? I’ll be amazed if all of these added variables don’t further break the already dysfunctional AI/simulation engine that has been plaguing MyNBA/MyLEAGUE for years now. Fingers crossed they fixed these issues and made sure all these new variables work as intended, but it sounds like a pipe-dream.
And I guess any hope for NFL 2K5-style halftime and weekly wrap-up shows can be put to rest.Comment
