February 2nd, 2008
The UNC Greensboro Spartans won their second straight game with a resounding 99-72 victory over the Elon Phoenix tonight at home. Two weeks ago the Spartans beat the Phoenix 74-56 at Elon, so tonight's win gives UNC Greensboro the coveted season sweep over the Phoenix.
The Spartans (8-11, 5-5) led by a comfortable margin at the half, 55-32, and didn't look back, ultimately outscoring the Phoenix the rest of the way, as well. Kendall Toney was the standout performer for UNC Greensboro, dropping 23 points on a 9-13 shooting night, including five three-pointers. Kyle Hines also contributed significantly with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Landon Clement and Daniel Oliver came off the bench to provide valuable support, scoring 11 and 7 points respectively. Dwayne Johnson played an important role in orchestrating the Spartans' attack, dishing out 12 assists along with his 6 points and 4 rebounds.
The Phoenix (10-9, 6-7) saw a strong performance from Artavis Krymski, who led the team with 19 points, while Ricardo Strong added 15. Jibrahn Ferguson came off the bench to score 15 points as well, but their efforts were not enough to overcome the dominant Spartans.
UNC Greensboro, who evened their conference record up at 5-5 with tonight's win, will look to keep their momentum going when they face Georgia Southern on the road on Monday evening in their next game.

Hanner Fieldhouse
Statesboro, GA
February 4th, 2008
The UNC Greensboro Spartans (9-11, 6-5) stormed the Hanner Fieldhouse with an impressive performance, defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles 83-66 for their third consecutive victory.
Led by Kyle Hines, who had a game-high 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals, the Spartans were able to take control early and maintain their momentum. Hines was efficiently supported by Mikko Koivisto from the bench, who added 18 points, hitting 7 out of 10 field goals and going 4-7 from beyond the arc.
Dwayne Johnson also contributed significantly to the Spartans' victory, tallying 8 points, 7 assists, and 2 steals in 29 minutes on the court. Kendall Toney added another 10 points to the Spartans' tally.
UNC Greensboro led the game at half-time, outscoring the Eagles 44-38. They extended their lead in the second half with a strong defensive performance that limited the Eagles (10-12, 4-9) to just 28 points.
The Eagles struggled with their shooting throughout the game, especially in the second half. Jerrold Fraser emerged as the top scorer for Georgia Southern, dropping 16 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Armond Henson came off the bench to contribute 13 points, while Raitis Timmons added another 12.
However, the combined efforts of the Eagles were not enough to match the Spartans' onslaught. The Eagles were particularly hampered by their ball handling, committing a total of 15 turnovers compared to just 7 by the Spartans. Georgia Southern did dominate on the offensive glass, and outrebounded the Spartans overall 36-24, but it wasn't enough to tilt the outcome in their favor.
The Spartans will look to continue their strong play as of late when they host the Wofford Terriers on Thursday. UNC Greensboro defeated Wofford 87-75 way back on December 8th in their first matchup this season.

UNC Greensboro extended their winning streak to four as they beat the Wofford Terriers 77-66 at home on Thursday.
The Spartans (10-11, 7-5) were led by Kyle Hines, who poured in 26 points and collected 11 rebounds. He was well supported by Kendall Toney, who contributed 18 points, hitting 7 of his 12 field goal attempts including four from beyond the arc.
Wofford (13-10, 8-5) struggled with shooting accuracy throughout the game, making only 28 of their 72 field goal attempts (39%). B.A. McBride led the scoring for the Terriers with 19 points, followed by Romas McCray with 12 on just 5-for-19 shooting. Schyler Myers poured in a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double. However, they couldn't prevent their team from falling 11 points short.
UNCG's win was largely attributed to their superior shooting. The Spartans shot 3% from the field, hitting 32 of their 70 attempts. Wofford, in comparison, shot just 39% from the field, including only 6 of 28 from three-point range.
The victory continues the upward momentum for UNC Greensboro, who will look to continue their winning streak in their upcoming games.
UNCG led by just two points at halftime, but they outscored Wofford by 9 points in the second half and held the Terriers to just 27 points in the game's final 20 minutes.
The Spartans will look for their fifth straight win on Sunday when they face Furman on the road. The Paladins blew out UNCG 90-61 in Greensboro back on December 15th in their first head-to-head matchup this season.
Hines has been a beast for you, I had to go look him up IRL and I can see why. Then I went back and realized he was a 86 Overall, so that makes sense that he would be your goto guy. Even though he is 6'6 they say his wingspan was over 7'1 and he was the Conference POY as a Junior so looks like you are giving him a solid senior season.

Yeah, he’s really good and has been a welcome addition for this first year squad. It’s nice to have a crutch we can throw it into the post to when our jump shots aren’t falling. I wish he was bigger as I do think it hurts us on the boards and defensively, but you can’t have it all, especially in your first year of legacy, haha. We’ll definitely miss him next year!

Next, UNC Greensboro will host SoCon preseason favorite Davidson next Wednesday evening.

The Davidson Wildcats (9-13, 8-8) dominated the UNC Greensboro Spartans (10-13, 7-7) with a decisive 99-67 victory tonight. Leading the charge for the Wildcats was Stephen Curry, who put up an impressive 32 points in just 22 minutes of play, converting an astounding 13 of 15 field goals. Curry also made 4 out of 5 attempted three-pointers and added an assist to three other scores.
