Luongo dominates Blues, Canucks win 3-0

VANCOUVER --- Roberto Luongo turned away all 30 shots last night to get his first shutout of the season as the Canucks won 3-0. Tukka Rask looked good in his first start for the Blues. Ryan Kelser took a run at Rask towards the end of the 1st period. Rask took exception and before any teammates could jump Rask already had his helmet off and was ready to go. Kelser beat Rask easily. Rask didn't seem to be comfortable after that. Samuelsson beat Rask at the 3 minute mark of the 2nd and Daniel Sedin followed at the 12 minute mark. Sturm finished up the scoring for the Canucks in the 3rd. The Blues travel to Calgary to take on the Flames next.

ST LOUIS --- After a horrible first month to the season, the Blues announced yesterday that they have made a trade with the Boston Bruins. The Blues have acquired G Tukka Rask, RW Shawn Thortan & G prospect Michael Hutchinson. In the trade, the Blues gave up G Jaraslov Halak, G prospect Jake Allen and a 2012 4th round pick.

The Blue started the season 3-8 during the first month. Halak only played in 5 of those games, with Elliott getting the nod in the rest but management felt Halak had better trade value. With the trade the Blues get out from under his $3.5 million contract that runs through the 2012-2013 season.

Rask is under contract through this year but management has already stated they want him to be the goalie of the future. They are gonna do whatever it takes to keep him in a Blues uniform for the foreseeable future.

In the trade the Blues also got veteran winger Shawn Thortan. Sources say Thortan was a key piece in the locker room during the Bruins Stanley Cup championship last season. Thortan is a a veteran that has a physical presence on the ice and who knows how to win. Thortan is 34 and under contract through this season. Thortan was playing in the AHL with the Bruins, he will be playing on the 4th line with Cheechoo and Sobotka for the Blues.
