Re: Heartbreak 10': A Chicago Cubs Franchise

VS.

Carlos Silva (0-0) VS. Mike Leake (0-0)

The Cubs are back to winning!! In the top of the 9th the Cubs finally showed some patience at the plate as they were able to get 2 hits and 2 walks off of Nick Masset to beat the Reds in the 2nd game of their series in Cincinnati. Carlos Marmol again looked dominate pitching his second save and helping the Cubs near the .500 mark.

Re: Heartbreak 10': A Chicago Cubs Franchise

VS.

Carlos Zambrano (1-0) VS. Aaron Harang (0-0)

The CUbs are not hitting the ball well so far through their first two series. The Reds ace pitcher Aaron Harang threw 7 strong innings on his way to his first win of the season. Carlos Zambrano had a rough 3rd inning giving up 3 extra base hits but settled down to go 6 innings with 8 hits. Three things will need to change if the current starters want to continue to play at the Major League level:
1) Strikeouts for batter must decrease--near the lead league so far.
2) Strikeouts for pitchers must increase--too many hit balls around the park.
3) Batting Average must get higher as not enough opportunities for the Cubs to really play their game of baseball.

Look to see what changes will be made to the lineups over the next few games to really get the batters rolling.

Re: Heartbreak 10': A Chicago Cubs Franchise

AT

Randy Wolf VS. Randy Wells

The Cubs were able to keep driving their offensive onslaught versus the Brewers as 4 of the teams 9 hits were Homeruns. Soriano led the way with two round-trippers and pinch-hitter Chad Tracy made his hit debut with a dinger as well. The Cubs move to .500 ball with the win and will at least split the opening series with the Brewers as Ryan Theriot's 9th inning sac flyled to a walk off win for the Cubs.

Re: Heartbreak 10': A Chicago Cubs Franchise

AT

Doug Davis (0-0) VS. Tom Gorzelanny (0-1)

Can the Cubs sweep the Brewers at home and lift their season winning percentage over .500? The answer is...YES!!! What a strange day for Chad Tracy. Aramis Ramirez tweaked his lat in pre-game activities and Lou Pinella decides to start the struggling Tracy at 3B. Tracy has 2 errors on defense at third, but also starts a cluth double play in the top of the ninth to end a Brewers rally and also has the walk-off single to end the game. With the small injury to Ramirez will Pinella start Tracy again next series? We will have to see what the trainers think of ramirez's lat sprain.

Re: Heartbreak 10': A Chicago Cubs Franchise

AT

Felipe Paulino (0-0) VS. Carlos Silva (0-0)

Paulino and the Astros really shut down the streaking Cubs and dominated from the 4th inning on. Paulino was 1 out away froma shutout before allowing back-to-back HR to Fontenot and Lee before Brendan Lyons came in to close the door. The Cubs fall back to .500 but the Astros 1B lance Berkman had to leave the game after straining a hamstring. Will this lead to a stint on the DL? The Cubs need to start looking towards getting a better bullpen as they are not consistent from the 6th-8th innings right now. Marlon Byrd was ejected for arguing an out call on a close play at first in the 6th inning. Can the Cubs rebound from this opening game of the series?
