Mariners get shutout; Hernandez injured

The Mariners did not have a very promising season opener. Ben Sheets was dominating all night, giving up only four hits. Jake Fox and Mark Ellis hit back-to-back solo shots in the bottom of the 7th to give Oakland a 2-0 lead, which was all they need.
Status on Hernandez's injury is still unsure.

A sigh a relief may be taken as Felix Hernandez did not injure anything.

"I felt a little twinge in my arm, so [Don Wakamatsu] took me out for precautionary reasons." Hernandez said to the Seattle Messenger.

Cliff Lee goes 8 strong innings, retired the last 13 out of 15 hitters he faced

The Mariners rebounded back today against Oakland. Franklin Gutierrez lead the offense, hitting the first Mariner home run of the season. Jose Lopez still remains hitless at the start of the season, which may be a cause for concern.

Erik Bedard will be on the mound tomorrow looking for his first win.
