Notes from 1902 World Series

  • The St. Louis Cardinals win their first ever World Series.
  • Hitting dominated this series with Emmet Heidrick putting up huge numbers over the six games.
  • Cardinals ace and Top Pitcher candidate Bob Wicker was a no show for the series, giving up more than 6 runs in each of his 2 starts.
  • Athletics hitting stars Socks Seybold and Nap Lajoie put up decent numbers but couldn't break out like Cardinals hitters.
  • The Cardinals trailed two different times in this series, but were able to win the last three games to take the trophy back to St. Louis.
  • Mike O'Neill pitched two complete games in his two starts to go 2-0 throughout the series.
