Gameplay improvement to Ncaa football 11 base on video evidence

Since this week we had the slowing down of information, i've been going back and looking at all the info thats been out. Just wanted to point out some of the things thats been gone unnoticed, to me at least. Pls chime in if you see more.

At 8:11 mark of this video. Russ calls a play with the strong side slot running a corner route and the Z wide out running a hitch route. Basically a smash play. X WR on the back side is running a streak and the tight end is running a 5 yard out.

The Bama defense is play what looks to be nickel package with 3 down lineman and 3 LBs. The defensive coverage is a man coverage with both safeties playing halves. The nickel back is play man coverage on the slot WR.

Two things i wanted to point out about the pass coverage 1st is how the nickel back and back side OLB plays the coverage.

#1: Pay attention to the slot WR and nickel back match up. The nickel back lined head up on the slot with 7 yards cushion and began his back pedal as the slot gets off the line. As the nickel back back pedals the slot is making up ground on him. Evidence that locomotion and rating is in effect because the DB is no longer back peddling as fast as the WR. The slot WR is now breaking the nickel back's cushion. At the 11-13 yard mark the slot breaks to his corner route (which is standard on a smash route) Once the Slot WR breaks on his route to the corner the nickel back turns his hip only after the Slot breaks on his route. This means that DBs are no longer running WR's route before they run it. NO more madam fortune teller playing DB. For the rest of the play he trails the Slot, giving that the slot probably have a better speed agility rating he was able create a good separation. Russ also stated that he was playing on varsity level.

At the 52 seconds mark. The Texas Nickel back or safety (Can't tell giving the view) is back peddling as the slot WR is running a out route. As soon as the Slot WR breaks the route the Texas Tech QB goes into his throwing motion. The DB then reacts, while still looking at the QB's way. DB does what is a T-step and takes a step back because of momentum (evidence of locomotion) then break on the ball and WR. By that time he's too late and have to make a tackle.

#2. The OLB on the back side of the play is slightly inside shade of the TE. As the TE release, the OLB stays in position (evidence that he's manned up because he didn't go into a zone) the OLB waited for the TE to approach him as often real life LBs do to bump the WR or TE of their routes. The OLB then reacted to the TE's out route after the TE had mad his break on the route.

This is something that Ian Cummings had showed us early on in the development of Madden 10, but never implemented due to complications.

Other things I wanted to point out that the pocket is developing nicer, but it's not completely evident right now. But i do see jab step back on pass protection from the Tackles as evident in the Florida vs Alabama vid. Look at the the LT on the same play and you can see it real quick. Also in this vid 120 ways to win at the 35 seconds mark look at the Mizz LT #72 he takes a jab step back with his left foot.

Another thing i wanted to point out also was that the Florida QB turned his body to the WR as he was stepping up and stepped into his throw with his body pointed at the intended target. In years past you would see the QB body bladed foward and then throw to his right or left which was unrealistic. Most QB especially at the college level or below would blade their body towards their intended target for accuracy.

For those that ask well how do you know they are in man coverage in the Florida vs Alabama clip. Well it's simple the outside corner that played the hitch stayed on the WR and the the back side CB played the streak route instead of releasing him to the safeties so you know they are not playing Quarters or cover 2. The nickel back also played the slot manned up and the OLB played the TE manned up. But anyone with knowledge of football or have played competitive football would know that.

Other improvement I would like to see in future addition of football games, which would be hard to implement is route stemming. It's hard to do so I would imaging, but it would be rating base on route running ability. Any guys that have play college football would know what I'm talking about, it's the game within the game for us WR and DBs. Route stemming is the angle a WR take at the DB forcing him to turn his hip, making DB's think we're running different routes. DBs usually tried to off set that by giving us different looks (meaning hiding their actual coverage prior to the snap of the ball).
