All these sanctions did was punish those who were not in any way affiliated with this horrible scandal. Why punish them?
Like Psyblast said previously, in 90% of the cases involving NCAA sanctions, or sports sanctions in general, it affects the people who have nothing to do with the infractions at all. There has to be some type of punishment, and in a case as extreme as this, it had to be extreme to fit it, as an example of what happens when you prioritize winning over all else.

SMU great Eric Dickerson grabs flamethrower, torches Mustangs - CollegeFootballTalk

Dickerson has been pretty vocal about SMU recently. A quote that stood out:

Quote:
“I think we had a shot, but it’s gone. I really do believe it’s gone. It’s like Texas and Alabama, those are big schools you can’t compete with. At one point, they were going to join the Big East. If I’m the Big East, if I’m the Big 12 or the Pac-10, I would look at SMU and ask ‘what do you have to offer us?’ You have 3,000 people that come to your football games. You’re winning maybe five games a year. What’s the appeal for us to want to split $12 million? There is no attraction. Yes, you are in Dallas, Texas, but that’s all you have. You can’t even compete.”

The "Football culture was so obsessed with winning that they'd do anything" **** is so played out.

Harvey Up**** (the artist formerly known as Al from Dadeville) has only paid $99 of his court-ordered 796,000-dollar restitution to Auburn University.

Harvey Upstarstarstarstar didn't look like he'd ever be able to pay even a quarter of what was owed. They'll be lucky to get $1000 before he dies.

It's funny because in December, they ordered he pay 500 a month, and since then he's paid 1/5 of that first payment.

Also, a really good read on Texas Tech.

Re: College Football Off Topic

I found this interesting, so I figured I'd share it.

Not surprising that Kansas and Vermont have non-DI teams as their representatives. Also, UNI. That is all.
