Updated pictures and names called?

I'm not looking for help on how to do this or a tutorial or anything, but I'm just curious... I'm certain I've seen rosters that have updated faces. And I read somewhere in some rabbit hole I fell in on 2K5 websites online that some file had connected current names to available play-by-play names in the game. So, I just want to know, is this actually possible or not? Are there rosters out there that have new player photos and players whose names are called out? If so, who makes them and where can I find one to try? For example, what is this 2kfootball ratesports thing? A mod? A roster?

Connection of the play-by-play names to different players is done in the NFL2K5 roster editors. Changing the Photos can also be done in the editors. Adding photos is not done. The Photos are stored on the game disc, not the gamesave file.

The only way that I can think of to make this possible would be to:

1. With the PS2 version on PC (using PCSX2), use resource substitution.
2. Figure out how to hack the game to do resource substitution.
3. Get the source code from 2K, figure out how to modify & re-compile the game.

#2 is unlikely (~80 unlikely) to happen.
#3 is very unlikely (~99.99% unlikely) to happen.

#1 would be the easiest to do.
Perhaps using Texmod (google "pcsx2 texmod")

Yeah, I'm certain I've seen one of the save files I've tried showing new photos. Maybe not. It would have been via PC emulation.

I'm new to trying new rosters with this game, haven't played it in years. What is the usual case with the start of the season, is it usually a few months before people put out rosters?
