The Greatest Mo' on Turf (ReDux) - A Detroit Lions Dynasty
Spoiler
I tried to do a dynasty/season analysis for myself, before, but life got in the way a bit. So I figured maybe some other people would like to follow along with my Detroit Lions team. I will try and update this post with each week of the season. I am using Matt10's sliders with Armor’s XP sliders. I will play a minimum of 3 games a year (Regular Season Weeks 1, 9, and 17; the games I don’t play will be supersimmed to have my playbook used. If I make the playoffs, I will play only home games.) After the shocking news last week from the Detroit Lions of relieving the General Manager of his duties, they followed it up on Monday with another bombshell - they have let go of the entire coaching staff, instead looking for new blood and a “new culture in the Motor City.” The new GM/Head Coaching job was not long vacant, however, as just two days after the vacancies, relative new-comer Justin Hunt has been tapped to fill both roles going forward. The Lions and their new head coach are set to have a Press Conference today. REPORTER: “Mr. Hunt, why do you believe the Ford family has chosen you, a relative unknown, to take over this long and storied franchise?” HUNT: “Well, I think my college resume speaks for itself. I took an unknown Georgia State squad and navigated the NCAA terrain to win multiple National Championships. I also helped my players win many awards throughout the years, including a few Heismans. I think my pedigree kinda speaks for itself, don’t you think?” REPORTER: “Well, yes, there’s no doubt that you can win at the college level, but I think some people attribute your success to your unconventional playbooks at Georgia State. Do you really think you’ll be able to bring your Shootbone and 3-3-5 to the NFL? HUNT: “Nah, I don’t think the 3-3-5 would be strong enough to stop the top players in the NFL. I do however believe parts of that playbook can be used in certain situations, but I will be keeping with the 3 man front line, but more than likely backed by 4 backers - with maybe a wrinkle or two thrown in *wink*” Reporter: “Wrinkles, huh? Well, your offense at Georgia State sure did have a lot of wrinkles. What about that playbook; are you planning on bringing it to the Lions?” HUNT: “Yeah, that was a fun playbook to run. But, if I’m being honest, I just don’t see it transferring over to the NFL. I think defenses are too savvy when it comes to their coverage schemes, and I’m just not sure I’m ready to try it out here. I will be playing a fast-paced offense like I did there, though, for sure. You guys remember the ‘99 Rams? Well, in case you didn’t know Detroit also plays on turf *smiles*” REPORTER: “*Chuckles* Do you really think you can be the new ‘Greatest Show’?” 2022-23 Season (Season 1):

Reporter Coach, DeShon Elliott had a strong camp and has continued to build on that this preseason. Where has he improved most? He looks much more fluid in his zone coverage drops. He's more aware of when to let guys go and when they're coming into his zone. He's been very solid in that regard. Roster Moves:None

REPORTER: "Coach, it's being reported that you're only committing to winning 4 games this season. Can you explain that?" HUNT: "Sure. We're a young team, and we're still rebuilding. We're not going to be competitive in every game this year. But I believe that if we focus on getting better every week, and if we stay healthy, we can still win 4 games." REPORTER: "But 4 wins is a very low bar. Why not shoot for more?" HUNT: "Because I don't want to set my team up for failure. If we go into every game expecting to win, and we don't, it's going to be demoralizing. I want my players to be realistic about our chances, and I want them to focus on the process of getting better, not the outcome of each game." REPORTER: "So you're saying that you're not going to be disappointed if you only win 4 games?" HUNT: "I'm not saying that I won't be disappointed. But I'm also not going to be surprised. I know what we have, and I know what we're capable of. If we can win 4 games, I'll be happy." REPORTER: "Thank you for your time, Coach." HUNT: "You're welcome." Roster Moves:
Offensive Scheme: Run and Shoot (52% Scheme Fit) Defensive Scheme: 3-4 Storm (80% Scheme Fit) Scene: Locker room pregame. Coach Hunt meeting with DeShon Elliot. HUNT: Every year there're players who ball out in preseason that don't end up doing anything once the actual season starts. I think you're different, but it's time to prove it. D. ELLIOT: I've never been more ready, Coach. I didn't put all this work in just to come up short. I'm here to make plays and help the team win. Scene: Pregame press conference. Coach Hunt stands at the podium before his first NFL regular season game. REPORTER: "It's opening day this week and a fresh start for every team around the league. What's the key to victory against this Eagles team?" HUNT: "Ideally we establish a rhythm on offense, dictate the flow of the game, and get a big enough lead to make their offense one-dimensional." REPORTER: "Obviously, every offense wants to be balenced. What about your offense? What's your main focus?" HUNT: "It's a passing league. Whether you're leading or trailing, passing is the best option for yards and points so being able to air it out is how we envision having the most success." Practice injuries: WR J. Williams - dislocated shoulder, MLB D. Bush - turf toe
Game notes: Forced too many passes, and Jared Goff ended up throwing two picks. The other turnover was Amon-Ra St. Brown fighting for extra yards after a throw over the deep middle and fumbling the ball. Scene: Locker room postgame. Coach Hunt meeting with DeShon Elliot. D. ELLIOT: "I really felt like I was poised for big things, but didn't get it done when it mattered. I've improved a lot since camp, but I'm not there yet." HUNT: "Growth and development isn't always expontential. There's going to be bumps in the road along the way, but you're still in ton the right track. Keep working. Keep your head up; we won." Scene: Locker room postgame. Coach Hunt meeting with D'Andre Swift. D. SWIFT: "We didn't execute our plan like we wanted to, but getting the win is what matters the most which we were able to do." HUNT: "Not every win is going to be pretty, but any week that we're able to come out on top has to be considered a success." Week 2:
Spoiler
Game Injuries: Both of my slot ends (St. Brown and Cephus) were injured for 4 weeks. Who is going to step up in our most important offensive position? We shall see in the coming weeks. Hopefully, we don't have any other injuries in that department. Week 3:
Spoiler
Re-Signs:
Rough week. We were really missing St. Brown and Cephus, as our measly passing yardage shows. Hopefully we can find some other options in the passing game in the next three weeks that they are out. (Unfortunately, the injuries coincided with away games which I don't play, so it is possible that this is the reason for the terrible game, as well. But hopefully, from a realism perspective, these injuries are the real culprit) Week 4:
Spoiler
Re-Signs:
Scene: Pregame press conference. REPORTER: "Coach, Jared Goff has been one of the top passers in terms of yards so far this season. Is the plan to continue to be so pass heavy?" HUNT: "If it's working why stop? Like you said, he's been one of the top passers and as long as we're able to throw the ball with that kind of effectiveness, we're going to keep doing it until his arm falls off." *A wry smile on his lips as he ends the press conference with a wave*
What a week for Kalif Raymond - 13 receptions for 257(!!!) yards. (Apparently, my stick skills are better than I thought. I may up the difficulty in year 2.) Scene: Locker room postgame. Coach Hunt meeting with Jared Goff. GOFF: "I'm ready to throw for 6000 yards if you need me to, Coach. As long as we win, I have no problem throwing the ball all game long and this week clearly showed that it can lead to success." HUNT: "I'm glad you're willing to do whatever it takes to win. That's the attitude I want from all of my players. We'll just have to see how the season plays out, but with more games like that we could win a lot more games." Week 5:

Re-Signs:
Week 6 (BYE WEEK):
Spoiler
Scene: Press conference. REPORTER: "Coach, you're in second place in your division and getting some time off this week with the bye... Any special plans for the week off?" HUNT: "We need to be firin' on all cylinders coming out of the bye, so we're sticking to the grind. I don't want these guys rusty or sluggish because of time off, and I think keeping the routine will help." Week 7:
Spoiler
Re-Signs:
Scene: Pregame press conference. REPORTER: "With Dak Prescott being able to make plays with both his arm and his legs, it must be touch to devise a gameplane to stop him. What's the biggest factor in slowing him down?" HUNT: I think it all starts with containing him. He's not built like other quarterbacks. As a defense, you can do everything right, and then watch as he creates something out of nothing."
Scene. Postgame press conference. REPORTER: "It's always tough beating a team led by Dak Prescott, but does it make this loss any easier to swallow?" HUNT: "Never - every loss hurts. We came in with the expectation to shut him down and win the game, but we weren't able to get the job done." Week 8:
Spoiler
Re-Signs
Goff forced two bad passes that ended up being pick-6s. But other than that, this was another good show put on by the offense. (Next week, I will give a break down of stats leaders and other league-wide standouts, along with my mid-season depth chart) Week 9:
Spoiler
Re-Signs
Four forced passes by Goff really changed the outcome of this game. Other than that, the running game is still doing really well; we just had to abandon it, mostly, after halftime due to some mistakes. (Meta: I haven't played Madden in like 6 months, and it really showed in this game ) Scene: Locker room. VAITAI: Man, I know the guys were pumped to deliver for you but we didn't get it done. Just know that showing up the team will only help us play better. Below are the midseason stat leaders and midseason awards leaders:
Week 10:

Week 11:
Spoiler
Scene: GM Justin Hunt's Office. ASSISTANT GM: We may want to take a deeper look at DT Trent Woodson. He's been standing out from other prospects in terms of his football IQ. HUNT: Perfect. Let me take a look at his tape and scouting report and see if he looks like a good fit. Scene: Pre-Game Press Conference. REPORTER: Coach, you're tasked with facing the Giants and their highly touted defense this week...where do you think you can have success? HUNT: I think our passing attack can beat any defense thrown at us. We're going to throw over the wall!
(Meta: I forgot how quick the press conferences are, and I couldn't get a picture in time to copy it down, but basically, I didn't "throw over the wall" and lost 5 morale) Week 12:
Spoiler
Re-Sign
Scene: Pre-Game Press Conference. REPORTER: Coach, protection for the quarterback was a major issue this pas week as you surrendered a high volume of sacs. Where do those struggles start? HUNT: The ball has to come out faster or come out period. Those negative plays make drives nearly impossible to sustain so whether it's dumping it underneath of just chucking it away, it's on the QB to get the ball out. With that being said, passing is a big part of our identity. I don't see that changing any time soon. We just have to execute better, learn from what happened last week and not let it happen again. Scene: Locker room. Coach Hunt and Halapoulivaati Vaital discuss the short week. HUNT: Obviously, we have a short week this week, so no much time to create an elaborate game plan. With that being the case, I want to stress how important it is that we play fundamentally sound football this week. VAITAL: Definitely. With so little recovery time, a lot of guys are going to be less than one hundred percent which can lead to sloppy football and mental errors. HUNT: Exactly and we're better than that. Stress to the team that it's imperative that we take care of the ball and be the team capitalizing off mistakes rather than being the ones making them.
What a freaking game if you were a neutral! We had to basically abandon the pass as Goff was sacked 7 times!!! Game came down to a 52 yard pass from Allen to seal it for the Bills. And that one penalty on us was very costly. We were getting ready to go for it on 4th and 3 (the running game had been producing enough to warrant it) and somebody jumped - false start. Scene: Post-Game Press Conference. REPORTER: Another tough loss this week, Coach. Any answers for the struggles the offense has had the past couple weeks in regard to the passing game? HUNT: Not really, we're just struggling. Not much else to say other than that. We're trying but clearly need to be trying a little bit harder because obviously it isn't good enough. Scene. Locker room. VAITAI: I didn't think the short week would affect us that much but clearly it did and we didn't get the job done. LT Taylor Decker out for 5 weeks with Broken Ribs. Awesome. Week 13:
Spoiler
Clearly something is not going right when our Possession Time is less than 20 mins. Week 14:
Spoiler
Another sub-20min game from our offense. Playoffs are all but out of the picture, now. Which is ok, because I was not expecting that, anyway. Week 15:
Spoiler
Well, at least we had more ToP this game. Starting to question my playbook/scheme at this point. But, we are going to stick to it! Week 16:
Spoiler
Finally a good(ish) offensive game. Week 17:
Spoiler
Great game overall. (Meta: for some reason [may be a bug that I am unaware of] most of my starters didn't play because they were red fatigued, but we were still able to come away with the W) Week 18:
Spoiler
Pretty poor showing. Again our ToP is under 20mins. Not a good look. But this is the last week of the season, and now on to preparing for the offseason! We ended up with the#10 offense and #19 defense in the league, so obviously something is working. 2023 Playoffs:
Spoiler
Scene: Detroit Lions Headquarters for a press conference HUNT: Good afternoon, everyone. I'm excited to announce I've been offered a 3-year contract extension with the team. REPORTER: What influenced your decision? HUNT: The unwavering support from ownership, management, players, and fans. We've built something special here and we want to keep it going. REPORTER: Goals for the future? HUNT: Championships...eventually. We're aiming for greatness and maintaining our culture of excellence. As you know, our team identity is still forming and we have a steep hill to climb, but I am looking forward to the years ahead! Fired OC Erik Aguilar and hired Glenn Powers - Offensive scheme is West Coast Spread. Though we didn't make the postseason this year, here is what happened: Wildcard Weekend: AFC: 1st Rd Bye: Bengals
NFC: 1st Rd Bye: Buccaneers
Divisional Weekend: AFC:
NFC:
Conference Championship Weekend: AFC:3 Titans vs. 7 Chargers
(Never would have guessed this. Tom Brady was MVP candidate all year, as was Zac Taylor for coach of the year. Goes to show why we play the games, I guess) Pro Bowl Weekend: Scene: Press Conference. REPORTER: Coach, after a less than stellar season, you are getting some time to relax and recharge. Where is your focus for this week? HUNT: I'm already looking at next season. Like you said, we should've been better this year so I'm spending every waking moment looking at how we improve for next season. Super Bowl Weekend: First, let's get to the yearly awards:
What a matchup we have for Super Bowl LVII! Two low-seeded teams overachieving and making it to the big game: 7 Chargers vs 5 Saints In a spectacular triumph, the Los Angeles Chargers have emerged as the Super Bowl LVII Champions! Dominating the Saints with a decisive 35-10 victory, the Chargers have etched their name in history, claiming the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in their illustrious journey. A season marked by exceptional teamwork and unparalleled dedication has culminated in this remarkable achievement. Congratulations to the entire Chargers team on a season that will be remembered for years to come! 2023 Offseason:

Re: The Greatest Mo' on Turf (ReDux) - A Detroit Lions Dynasty
Thanks. The wife is gone next week, so I will be able to get to more games. I'm really hoping we can string some better offense together because that week 3 was ROUGH!

Re: The Greatest Mo' on Turf (ReDux) - A Detroit Lions Dynasty
Updated the OP with happenings up to Week 9. I will try to get through the rest of this season tonight (not playing another game until week 17 will help [I highly doubt we make the playoffs this year]). Possibly starting the draft tonight as well.
