Imagine what kind of MAC Championship it would be with EMU or WMU against Kent State (I was there two weeks ago) or Miami. Those match ups haven't happened IRL for years, and even in the time I was at Bowling Green, NIU or CMU owned the West, while Buffalo snuck in over us once or twice in the East.
Eagles Add Two More During Bye Week -- Two star prospects, quarterback Tony Richard and safety Terrell Whitfield signed letters of intent with Eastern Michigan during the team's week eleven bye week. Richard, a hometown Ypsilanti native, did not take an official visit with the team. He was also being recruited by Western Michigan and Michigan State but elected to stay closer to home. Whitfield, who is also a Michigan native, signed with the Eagles turning down scholarship offers from both Central and Western Michigan. Both players are expected to redshirt their first year on campus.

Scouting Report
A Ypsilanti native, there was little doubt throughout his collegiate career that Richard would be courted by the Eagles. Described by his high school coach as a winner, pure and simple, Richard will look to continue his success at the next level. More of a scrambling quarterback, Richard possesses good speed and the ability to make plays with his legs. His throwing mechanics will need work and he lacks the arm strength of higher caliber recruits. Look for him to be a good fit in a west coast, short to intermediate pass attack. He ran a very simple offense for the Grizzlies in high school and was not called upon to learn the kind of playbook that Eastern Michigan will demand of him.
A solid signing for the Eagles, Richard will redshirt his first year on campus as he tries to digest the playbook. Hopefully with a year of conditioning and strength training, he will be able to improve on his throwing power and hit passes deeper down the field. With Iannotti set to lead Eastern for the next several seasons, Richard will get his chance as an upperclassman and will most likely battle current freshman quarterback Dustin Bryant for playing time.

Scouting Report
Playing as an in the box safety for most of his high school career, Whitfield will be asked to do more in coverage in college. He possesses a quick first step but only average top end speed. He will have to play back from the line to be able to keep the play in front of him. He is a very raw prospect who possesses good athleticism but lacks polish in both tackling and coverage abilities.
Despite a lack of talent at the free safety position, the Eagles will most likely redshirt Whitfield to give him time to develop. He must become more polished in zone coverage before he can become an every down player.

It has definitely been quite the topsy turvy year in the MAC. I still can't explain the meltdown that seems to have befallen Central Michigan. They were pretty solid last season and this year they are just a royal mess. With the new head coach WMU seems to be unstoppable and will clinic the West with either a win this week or a loss from us. I was also pretty surprised at the down year Temple is having. I still think Miami has a good chance to unseat Kent State in the East but it will be exciting to see how everything plays out. Thanks for checking in my friend!

Thank you my friend. Definitely two solid signings who I think will develop into quality starters down the road.
As far as the player cards they are a creation of my own working off some draft prospect layouts bichettehappens had created in the past. I have modified the the html into scouting prospects. Feel free to look at the code and use as you see fit!
Year 2 (2012), Game 11, Northern Illinois at Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan cornerback Kelip Goodwin secures a first quarter interception / Wide receiver Kinsman Thomas pulls in one of his two scores on the day.
Super Seniors: Eastern Michigan Wins Wild Shootout in Overtime 52-45 Over Huskies
Eagles send senior class off in fashion with seventh win | Eastern Michigan begins tradition of "Green Out" on senior day | CB Goodwin scores on defense and special teams.
AP Ypsilanti Eastern Michigan sent their seniors off in style as the team picked up their seventh win of the season downing Northern Illinois, 52-45, in overtime. All American senior WR Kinsman Thomas would haul in his second touchdown reception of the game with just twenty seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 45-45. Freshman HB Robert Thomas would take it from there, punching in a score from three yards on the Eagles first possession of overtime. An interception by senior CB Ja'Ron Gillespie would seal the victory for Eastern Michigan. Senior QB Alex Gillett would take home player of the game honors for his 305 yard, two touchdown performance.
It may have been all about the seniors but that didn't stop freshman wide receiver Nick Vaughn for pulling in 193 yards receiving.
It became clear very quickly that the game would turn into an offensive shootout as the two teams battled to a 14-14 deadlock in the first quarter. Eagles CB Kelip Goodwin made contributions in multiple aspects of the game as he took a first quarter interception back for a 34 yard touchdown. In the third quarter he would return a kickoff 99 yards for a score as well. Goodwin is currently the leading return man in college football.
The Eagles were dominated along the defensive line all game long as they surrendered four rushing scores, including a 63 yard dash in the third quarter to HB Jamal Womble. Also of note was the play of senior WR Martel Moore who hauled in five catches for 154 yards for the Huskies.
"We are becoming experts at taking things down to the wire. I think this is like our third overtime game this season. I am really happy we were able to have our seniors leave Ypsilanti on a high note." -- Eagles Head Coach Dan Clayton
Eastern Michigan (7-4) will be on the road for their final game of the regular season as they meet Kent State (7-3). The Golden Flashes are hot off a 43-21 win over Miami, and are currently 6-0 in conference play. The two teams met in a snowy game in Kent, Ohio last season. Led by then senior HB Jacquize Terry, the Golden Flashes handled the Eagles 38-28. Kent State is led by senior QB Spencer Keith (2228 yds, 17 TDs, 13 INTs) and star senior HB Dri Archer (971 yds, 11 TDs). Kickoff is schedule for 12:30 PM est.

Re: A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty
Good recipe for success - if you can score on offense, defense, and special teams, you are probably going to win. Big game for Goodwin to come up with the pick-six and the kickoff return TD. Nice to see Kinsman Thomas find the end zone, but it is pretty obvious that Nick Vaughn has become the #1 target in the offense.
I like the little move to try the two-point conversion after the kickoff return TD - get a big play, get some momentum, make their defense come out and stop you from tying it now rather than waiting until later/the fourth quarter, when there might be more pressure on the play.

It was really nice to see defense and special teams get in on the scoring. Goodwin has actually taken three kicks back now this season. Unfortunately, I will probably pull him from special teams next year as he will be our number one corner and I don't want to risk injury to him on defense. We are going to be very thin and young in the secondary.
I was happy to see Thomas score twice, especially on senior day. What was suppose to be HIS season has really been overshadowed by the emergence of Vaughn. The kid is absolutely ridiculous. There have been countless times I have thrown what I like to call "chuck and pray" balls and he will be just standing there and make ridiculous leaps over corners. Watching him develop is going to be something special.
On to our last game now against Kent State who is actually leading the MAC East. As you will see soon, Western Michigan won again so they would have to lose their final two games along with us taking down Kent State. Our hopes of sneaking back into the MAC championship are on the edge of a knife at this point. Thanks for the great feedback my friend!
