Wow what a way to cap the season with a flurry of updates! Nice job on the bowl win in season one. What are your thoughts?

Re: 2006/2021 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
Quite frankly, I'm disappointed I didn't have a little more heartache in my first season. You pick a team like Vandy to play the long game in a rebuild. If I'm 8-5 my first year, I could be contending for a natty by Year 3. That's too soon. But, like I mentioned in a previous post, this game has been out for nine years now. I have a good feel for the plays I like to run. It's not like when NCAA 2007 came out and I was starting a dynasty after only a week or so of playing the game. |

2021/2006 SEASON RECAPS
2021 RECAP Team ratings: C+ OVR, C offense, B- defense, C+ special teams; 77 OVR, 74 offense, 83 defense; 3 stars Preseason ranking: No. 107 Final ranking: Unranked Record: 8-5 (4-4 SEC) Bowl game: Vanderbilt 23, Louisville 14 (Music City Bowl) Award winners: None Second-team All-America: Ethan Barr, MLB First-team All-SEC: Ethan Barr, MLB; James Ziglor, KR. Second-team All-SEC: Re’Mahn Davis, RB; Allan George, CB; Dashaun Jerkins, FS. Passing leader: Mike Wright 302 of 509, 3,620 yards, 24 TD, 21 int. Rushing leader: Re’Mahn Davis 253 carries, 993 yards, 18 TD Receiving leaders: Devin Boddie 62 catches, 1,043 yards, 5 TD; Chris Pierce 60 catches, 883 yards, 7 TD Defense: Ethan Barr 77 tackles, 23 TFL; Allan George 6 sacks; 4 players with 1 interception each Synopsis: B-Dawg was much more successful in his first season of this Vanderbilt dynasty than he was in his first one back in NCAA ’07. He went 3-9 in that dynasty and didn’t qualify for a bowl until his fourth season. In this one, he beat nationally ranked Georgia and Texas A&M in back-to-back games on his way to a bowl game and an 8-5 record. Those victories followed a loss to Army, a team B-Dawg was 13-0 against during his time at Air Force. The Commodores could be on a fast track for success this time around, which isn’t exactly what B-Dawg hoped for when returning to Vandy. Sophomore quarterback Mike Wright threw for 3,620 yards and ran for 788, so he’s a bright spot for the future.
2006 RECAP Preseason ranking: No. 77 Final ranking: Unranked Record: 3-9 (2-6, 5th SEC East) Bowl game: None Award winners: None Passing leader: Mackenzi Adams 112-for-230, 1,639 yards, 11 TD, 15 int. Rushing leader: Cassen Jackson-Garrison 297 carries, 1,313 yards, 6 TD Receiving leader: Earl Bennett 64 catches, 1,237 yards, 9 TD Defense: Jonathan Goff 98 tackles, 23 TFL, 5 sacks; Chris Booker 5 sacks; Reshard Langford and Josh Allen 4 int. Average attendance: 17,226 Synopsis: B-Dawg expected things to be tough in the SEC, but didn’t expect the Commodores to be totally uncompetitive in losses to lowly Temple and Duke. Nor did he expect to struggle against Division I-AA Tennessee State, needing a fourth-and-23 touchdown pass to tie the game late before winning it on a field goal with five seconds remaining. Interceptions were a huge problem, as Vanderbilt threw 31 in 12 games. Making matters worse, B-Dawg signed no in-season recruits because of stringent recruiting rules that will be relaxed going into 2007. Bright spots were MLB Jonathan Goff, who set an all-time B-Dawg record for NCAA Football with 98 tackles; WR Earl Bennett, whose 1,237 receiving yards broke the real-life school record; and HB Cassen Jackson-Garrison, who eclipsed the real-life rushing mark with 1,313 yards. |

(AP) — The last thing Vanderbilt can afford is to lose one of its premier players before his eligibility expires. The Commodores got a scare when second-team All-America middle linebacker Jonathan Goff announced that he was exploring the idea of entering the 2007 NFL Draft with one year of college eligibility remaining. Vanderbilt coach B-Dawg used eight points the first week to persuade Goff to stay, but he needed more time to make a decision. A six-point effort the second week was enough to bring Goff back for his senior season. “I’ve got good news, coach,” Goff said. “I think I’m gonna hang around for a little while.” Goff led the nation with 98 tackles this season, an all-time B-Dawg record for NCAA Football. He is 86 OVR. “At 86 OVR, the chances of Jonathan actually making it to the Madden draft were pretty slim,” B-Dawg said. “Besides what it would have meant to our team to lose him, I could not in good conscience let him turn pro knowing we’ve probably seen the last of Mr. Goff. With one more year of training and in-season progression, he could be a player I wind up drafting in the late rounds in 2008.” With Goff staying, the Commodores will lose only nine players from last year’s 3-9 team. The team had 10 seniors, but true senior kicker Bill Robertson never played in 2006 and became an unintended red-shirt. Vanderbilt has 11 scholarships available. RECRUITING: CLASSES OF 2022/2007
B-Dawg breaks from norm by bringing 3 JUCO players, 2 transfers to Vandy B-Dawg isn’t a fan of accepting transfers or recruiting junior college players. But with 23 players graduating and high school recruits not exactly busting down the door to get into Vanderbilt, B-Dawg signed three JUCO players and two transfers following the 2021 season. One of those JUCO signings is middle linebacker Jeremy Walton, whose 80 OVR rating leads the Commodores 2022 recruiting class, though that’s misleading because he will only be around for two seasons. The same with 72 OVR receiver John Johnson and 71 OVR offensive tackle Lance Griffin. Transferring to Vanderbilt are 76 OVR sophomore offensive guard Vershon Lee of South Carolina and 69 OVR red-shirt freshman tight end Trey Boll of Wake Forest. “This isn’t an ideal situation, but hopefully it’s a temporary stop-gap,” B-Dawg said. “I’m not happy about it, but it’s better than letting the CPU fill in your roster with walk-ons.” The most promising high school recruits are 76 OVR quarterback Drew Dickey and 73 OVR strong safety Jeffrey Ogochukwu, both of whom were renamed to match real-life Vanderbilt recruits. “We have our quarterback of the present for the next two years in Mike Wright, but Drew should have a nice fat, juicy OVR when he’s ready to take over,” B-Dawg said. “There are transfer risk in this game, but not nearly as much as there is in real-life college football. I’m sure Drew will wait his turn as others have during my career.” B-Dawg got commitments from seven players during the season and 12 during the offseason, which nearly fills all of the holes left by graduation. The Commodores’ class is ranked 91st out of 126 teams. (AP) — Vanderbilt football fans don’t expect much, considering their program hasn’t had a winning season since 1982. However, they’re certain to be up in arms after a disastrous first recruiting season for coach B-Dawg. The Commodores, shackled by severe recruiting restrictions, spent most of the five weeks fishing for recruits who had A- awareness and good discipline, never really getting a chance to zero in on kids. As a result, Vanderbilt’s 2007 class ranks dead last among 119 Division I-A teams after yielding only three new players. Vanderbilt didn’t sign a player until Week 4, when offensive guard Brandon Hampton of Sandy Springs, Ga. and offensive tackle John Austin of Smyrna, Tenn. made commitments. Hampton is the 78th-ranked offensive guard in the country, while Austin is the 103rd-rated offensive tackle. Both are two-star recruits. “These two players have taken the leap of faith to play for us, so they will always have a special place in my heart,” B-Dawg said. “They will be given every opportunity to succeed in their five years here. I will red-shirt all three of our recruits and hopefully they will progress into something special by their fifth year.” B-Dawg recruited six players during the final week, but landed only one more recruit in one-star strong safety Shannon Mooney of Morristown, Tenn., the 78th-rated player at his position. Halfback Alex Key had Vanderbilt No. 1 on his list in the final week, but did not sign. There have been instances in past versions of NCAA Football in which teams have signed only a few players, but this time around the next-lowest total any team signed was Marshall’s 12. B-Dawg is preaching patience with his fans. “We’re going to be fine for the next two years,” he said. “We’ve got a 62-man roster for next year and only 16 of those guys will be seniors. We also have only 11 juniors. Our top players from last year will all return and will only be better. The core of our team is our large group of sophomores and red-shirt freshmen, thanks to the fact 13 true freshmen were created before I started this dynasty.” Yet, B-Dawg came away from his first recruiting season a humbled man. He admitted that he will need to lower his requirements slightly to avoid another recruiting disaster when he absolutely needs to get some bodies in Nashville. He announced that the awareness requirement has been lowered from A- to B+, while the discipline requirement has been dropped from “good” to “average.” “Hey, we’re a Division I football college, not Harvard Law School,” B-Dawg said. “We have five-star academic prestige, but Michigan has six-star academics and still lets some knuckleheads get in. We really handcuffed ourselves with such severe restrictions. We will still get some quality young men who fit the Vandy mold by going with the new standard. We really missed out on some players who could help our team and still be upstanding representatives of our university by having such strict standards. We had so few players who showed interest in us to begin with that we really narrowed that pool of talent by placing those restrictions on them. Now, if we get to the point where recruiting is too easy years from now, then we might revisit these standards.” Scouting prospects is a must, no matter what restrictions B-Dawg uses. He scouted 25 different players this time around and only 12 met his requirements. B-Dawg was not able to fill the one need he had, that being a free safety. He will likely change a strong safety, a cornerback or a receiver into a free safety to prevent accepting a walk-on. Code:

2007 VANDY SPRING GAME (REMEMBER SPRING GAMES?)
They weren’t messing around in the 2007 Vanderbilt spring game, as Mackenzi Adams found out in no uncertain terms from Jared Fagan. Funk gets mixed reviews in 2007 Vandy spring game NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The clamoring on behalf of quarterback Jared Funk was loud, not to mention understandable. Vanderbilt’s two quarterbacks in 2006, Chris Nickson and Mackenzi Adams, combined to complete only 47.6 percent of their passes while leading the nation with 31 interception as opposed to only 15 touchdown passes. Nickson was the biggest offender, of course, throwing 16 of those picks and only four touchdowns. As a result, Nickson never even stepped onto the field while Funk and Adams battled it out for the early edge in the quarterback race during Vanderbilt’s 2007 spring game. From early indications, the Commodores can’t expect any more success with Funk than they did with Adams and Nickson. Funk was 12-for-26 for 226 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions during his five-minute stint leading the Black team in a 34-29 loss to the Gold. The Black team, which consisted of the team’s offensive starters, was controlled by coach B-Dawg. “We seem to be back in the same boat we were last year, never quite confident in any of the young men we put under center,” B-Dawg said. “Chris has the most speed, but the worst throwing accuracy. Mackenzi is only a touch slower and has a little better throwing ratings. Jared is intriguing because we could use him for four years and take a run at Jay Cutler’s real-life career throwing record. Our team is so bad, we may need a fast quarterback to bail us out, but that didn’t seem to do us much good last year. I’ll have to sleep on this decision. We don’t have to name a starter for a few more months.” Perhaps Funk made the mistake of constantly looking deep to star receiver Earl Bennett. The Commodores’ defense, as bad as it is, was able to pick off some of his long balls early on before Bennett caught fire and hauled in seven catches for 184 yards and a touchdown. B-Dawg gave up on running the ball early on when Cassen Jackson-Garrison had only 11 yards on six carries. “You only get five minutes to do something,” B-Dawg said. “You run the ball and you waste time. We figured if we were passing the ball well, then maybe two players get some progression out of the deal — the quarterback and the receiver. If you run it, only the running back would get some progression, assuming you ran well. I don’t know how it works for offensive linemen.” The Gold team got the ball first and ran a conservative offense, with backup halfback Jared Hawkins running eight times for 33 yards and one touchdown. Adams threw only four times, completing two for 36 yards. A 5-yard touchdown run by Hawkins with 19 seconds left gave the Gold team a 14-1 lead after its one possession. Teams got two points for first downs and six points for touchdowns. The one point for the Black team came compliments of a sack from cornerback Jared Fagan. Fagan also played defense for the Black team and got an interception, good for two points. Ryan Hamilton and Reshard Langford also had picks. |

2022 SEASON PREVIEW - NCAA 2014
MIKE WRIGHT Mike Wright was a major reason why Vanderbilt overachieved in the first year of this dynasty, throwing for 3,620 yards and 24 touchdowns and running for 788 yards and five scores. As he enters his junior year, B-Dawg would like to see him cut his interception total (a ghastly 21) in half. Wright is 86 OVR with 81 SPD, 79 THP and 78 THA. The backup is Ken Seals, who is 84 OVR with 72 SPD, 81 THP and 78 THA. When in doubt, always use the faster quarterback! RE’MAHN DAVIS Re’Mahn Davis came seven yards short of 1,000 yards as a junior, a situation B-Dawg would’ve tried to rectify had he known he was that close. He ran for 18 touchdowns, but many were on tosses around the goal line. He averaged only 3.9 yards per carry, partly because he was used around the goal line so much, partly because the Commodores haven’t developed an offensive line that is favorable to running backs. James Ziglor is the fastest player in this group with 89 SPD, but is only tied for fourth in OVR. Ziglor will be used primarily as a return specialist. Justin Ball has moved from tight end to fullback, where his 82 SPD and 75 CTH could get him involved more than last year’s fullback, Brayden Bapst, who had only 21 carries and eight catches. DEVIN BODDIE B-Dawg is still looking for a game-breaker in the receiving corps. The fastest player in this group is Quincy Skinner, who has 88 SPD. He’s followed closely by Will Sheppard (87 SPD), John Johnson (86 SPD) and Jeremy McKenzie (86 SPD). That won’t cut it in the SEC. Logan Kyle is the top receiver overall with ratings of 81 OVR, 83 SPD and 82 CTH. He will definitely see a major boost in production after making only three catches for 28 yards last season. Devin Boddie (80 OVR, 85 SPD, 77 CTH) will get the coveted slot position once again after catching 62 passes for 1,043 yards and 5 touchdowns last season. His 21 drops were a concern, however. Sheppard was third on the team last year with 51 catches for 620 yards, scoring two touchdowns. In an effort to essentially add another offensive lineman up front, B-Dawg moved Brayden Bapst back to tight end after one year at fullback. Bapst is a better blocker than several of the Commodores’ offensive linemen, boasting ratings of 81 PBK and 81 RBK. He is 79 OVR with 70 SPD and 65 CTH, who he doesn’t figure to be of much value in the passing game. His backup is 77 OVR Joel DeCoursey, who has 79 SPD, 74 CTH and 67 blocking ratings. When DeCoursey becomes the starter next year, the tight end position should become more important in the passing game. BRADLEY ASHMORE Vanderbilt’s offensive line would be fine if B-Dawg was still coaching in the Mountain West Conference, but it could be overmatched against some of the elite defensive linemen and linebackers in the SEC. The top two players are rated 81 OVR, left guard Julian Hernandez (a converted center) and center Kevo Wesley. The tackles are 79 OVR Bradley Ashmore on the left side and Junior Uzebu on the right. Ben Cox is 80 OVR at right guard and has the top blocking ratings in the group at 82 PBK and 83 RBK. This is why the Commodores will rely on a beefy tight end to shore up the blocking. NATE CLIFTON Vanderbilt’s defensive line is adequate, but not imposing. Left end Nate Clifton and tackle Daevion Davis are both 85 OVR, right end Christian James is 84 OVR and tackle Devin Lee is 79 OVR. B-Dawg would prefer more than the 72 SPD Clifton possesses at the left end spot, which is where B-Dawg traditionally gets most of his sacks. James’ 64 SPD makes him pretty much useless. Davis had four sacks and nine tackles for losses last season. Clifton had 17 tackles, but only one sack. ANFERNEE ORJI The linebacking corps is the strength of this team. Anfernee Orji is 90 OVR, the first player in this dynasty to break into the 90s. He missed a chunk of last season with an injury, finishing with 43 tackles, 10 for losses, three sacks and a pick. Orji has 99 AWR, 94 ACC, 83 SPD and 82 TAK. His partner in crime is 87 OVR middle linebacker Ethan Barr, who has 99 AWR, 73 SPD and 82 TAK. Barr led the Commodores in tackles (77) and tackles for losses (23) last season. He also had a pick and three sacks. Outside linebacker De’Rickey Wright, who started in Orji’s absence last year, is 79 OVR with 84 SPD, 93 ACC and 72 TAK. Wright didn’t do much with his opportunity last year, finishing with only 10 tackles. Vanderbilt may roll with only two linebackers much of the time. MAX WORSHIP B-Dawg would prefer to have more speed in his secondary, given the caliber of talent in the SEC. The fastest guys are cornerbacks Jaylen Mahoney (85 OVR, 88 SPD, 99 AWR) and Gabe Jeudy’Lally (86 OVR, 88 SPD, 99 AWR). Strong safety Max Worship (82 OVR, 89 SPD, 81 TAK) ranked third in tackles last year with 66, including 13 for losses. Chad Lloyd moves into the starting free safety spot, sporting ratings of 82 OVR, 87 SPD, 82 AWR and 71 TAK. He had only five tackles last year in spot duty. A concern going forward is that the top three cornerbacks are all seniors, with two freshmen ranking fourth and fifth on the depth chart. GREG MITCHELL Vanderbilt won’t gain an edge with its kicking game, with two freshmen handling the duties. Greg Mitchell is the kicker, entering college at 72 OVR with 72 KPW and 71 KAC. Robert Hayden will punt, bringing in lowly ratings of 64 OVR, 74 KPW and 55 KAC.
