As much as I don't agree with the article (AT ALL, actually) his post was clearly with the intent to cause issues.

Why not just say the article seems to be off-base in what is actually happening in the forums?

You could make that argument but imo mods should be more careful issuing infractions in review threads than in normal threads because of how it looks. The review threads are there for compliments and negative comments. I remember in the past I had one poster who made 3-4 similar posts in the same thread before he was celled or given an infraction.

Yeah but you touch upon one of the difference in the past of OS vs. the present. There was more leniency for those comments and they aren't being tolerated now.

In order for it to actually be trolling wouldn't the poster have had to have made several posts basically claiming OS was in the bed with EA? Unless Columbuskilled has a history of doing this I'm not sure it really fits the definition of trolling.

By that definition if a poster's first post is trolling we should wait until they do it 3 or 4 more times?

I think the TOS needs updating then if that's considered trolling. Trolling, be definition at OS, is a personal attack on another user.

I always though trolling was posting just to get a rise out of someone or something in a negative manner. I'm wrong, via the TOS, about the something part.

Talking trash about another user is a quick way to earn a banning, as is posting topics specifically to provoke a negative response (aka trolling).

I certainly hope you're not going to split hairs with the "posting topics" part.

Exactly. I've read some of his recent post history, and I didn't see anything. I read the article in question and thought it was as much of a joke as he did, as well as other articles that clearly seem to be slanted in a particular direction. He basically called it as he saw it, and I agree with him. If that's trolling then how do you criticize an article without getting in trouble for it? If you're not praising EA you have to step on eggshells so as not to hurt the company guys' feelings?

I really see no reason to have to ***** foot around things. This was a place where the writers were pretty objective for the most part, it does not seem that way now, the rest (well to be fair, a part of it) of the staff seems to reflect that change as well. If you're going to pretend to be a journalist then you have to expect things like this. Punishing members who call you out on the BS they see doesn't bode well for your reputation. Or does that even matter anymore? I am sure it used to.

Whether it be "trolling", or insulting, It is at the moderators discretion. We are made moderators because we tend to always post objectively. If someone has an "issue" with a warning or infraction they have received they should discuss it with the forum administrator and then go from there.

Remember being a moderator is not an easy job. No matter what we do someone will most likely not be happy with it. OS is the site it is today because of the moderators, and administrators commitment of time and effort. Just look at the IGN and gamefaq forums then come back and tell me you would rather post there.

Well, you have a point there but why not just add "and/or comments" to that line?

Shouldn't it be updated to reflect the new changes to the site?

I'm not trying to split anything but there are guys that use the TOS for reasons such as the ones brought up in this thread. We had a similar discussion on pictures of women in an avatar a little while back (which wasn't in the TOS as well).

I know people on the staff dont like addressing this but the fact that the site is majority owned by an current (maybe former) EA employee, the fact that OS purchased a EA fansite and the site is frequented by more EA employees than it ever has in its history...would lead some to believe and state that OS is in EA's pocket.

Addressing posts like that does more to clear up OS's reputation than issuing infractions does.
