Re: Remorse -- An NHL 10 BAP
Ned Blake had arrived to school the next day a few minutes late, just like his best friend, Todd.
While Todd was outgoing, creative, and somewhat of an intellectual, his physical appearances held him back ; he was chubby, wore glasses, and seemed to always be wearing a sweat-soaked t-shirt, no matter how long he had been up, or what the weather's condition was like.
Blake, on the other hand, was tall and lithe, and had an athlete's build. He often wondered why he had always had trouble achieving success with the opposite sex.
However, he was unbelievably shy, and often became incredibly nervous in front of women.
Confidence is what I lack, he said to himself, stating a fact.
The two walked down the hallways of Roosevelt High School, lost in their own trances of thought.
Finally, Todd spoke up.
“Dude, did you hear about the Knicks?”
“Mhmmm...” Ned grumbled. He cared not for a petty sport like basketball. In his mind, the only sport worth worrying about was ice hockey.
“They we're losing with like, 1 second left, right? And then all of a sudden one of the Knicks' players, I forget who...”
Todd's words became silenced for Ned, at that moment, as the duo rounded the corner and Ned began looking at Natasha, the girl of his dreams.
She was talking to a few of her friends, and smiling so sweetly. She laughed, then, and her short bark of hilarity made his heart flutter and his stomach grow wings.
“...And then he tipped it in, I swear to god! With point one seconds left, he ti--”
“That's great, Todd,” Ned cut across his friend rudely. Todd crossed his arms in frustration, but didn't bother arguing with his friend whom he idolized so dearly.
They stood still for a few moments in the hallway, Todd lost in thoughts of basketball, while Ned stood staring ever so rudely at Natasha.
She noticed him, then, and her entire group of friends and her turned to face him, almost in unison.
He felt the blood in his face rush to his cheeks, and he smiled sheepishly before waving slightly to her. She laughed then, and the blood immediately drained from his face, leaving his cheeks lifeless.
“Come on,” Ned muttered angrily to Todd, pushing his friend in the opposite direction.
Why was it that no matter what he did, Ned couldn't seem to attract the attention of those he held dearest to his heart?
