How do I know what defense I’m going up against and how to counter it?

Look at their alignment pre-snap. 2 high safeties with all corners at or near the LOS? Likely man.

2 high safety and both outside corners are 5ish yards off? Likely cover 2.

2 high safety and both outside corners are 8ish yards off? Likely cover 4.

2 high safety and one outside corner is 5ish yards off while the other is 8? A cover 6 variant.

1 high safety with the corners way off? Cover 3.

1 high safety and the corners are up and on the WRs? Likely cover 1.

No safeties deep? Likely a cover 0 blitz.

With disguises the pre-snap read isn't the tell all, but it gives you an idea of how your progression should go to figure out what they are in.

As to how to attack? Be familiar with each coverage and where it's weak and imagine how your route combos will open up holes vs it.

There is a trainer in the game which will show you how to attack each coverage.

Also you can look for how the CB is shading his receiver. If they're not aligned over the top of them but a few yards to the side it's likely zone.

But there are disguises so the coverage can morph post snap.

Using motion from certain positions can also help show the coverages.

No deep safeties? Cover 0 blitz

I have not seen the CPU bring safeties down for a cover 0 blitz unless they are the Blitzer. Otherwise they try and cover their man from the deep safety. You can usually exploit this.
