KO & Punt Formation Subs

Why can't we edit formation subs for kickoffs and punts in Franchise?

I have some starters and backups on those that I dont want out there.

Or can we do it in game then it carries over?

You can do it in Franchise for punts definitely in-game or out-of-game . Just go to the My Coach menu > Formation Subs > Offense > Special Teams.
For kickoffs, you can't though. It's completely based on depth chart. The players used besides K are FS2, SS2, CB4, CB3, MLB2, ROLB2, TE2, WR5, LOLB2, FB1. So don't have any guys in those slots if you don't want them out on kickoff team.

It annoys me that we can’t edit this. For the most part, it makes sense, but I run a 3-4 and would rather not have a starting middle linebacker playing on special teams. Likewise for my main nickel corner. I could work around this in formation subs, but that’s a hassle we shouldn’t have to go through.

The TE2/FB1 ones are also kind of annoying. I typically keep nine linebackers, so I should be able to replace both those offensive guys with defensive backups.

Re: KO & Punt Formation Subs

These are the positions used for kickoffs and kick returns, both left-to-right from the user's perspective:

Kickoff Team (L-R)

CB3 WR5 LOLB2 SS2 MLB2 ROLB2 TE2 FB1 FS2 CB4

K

Kick Return Team (L-R)

CB3 LOLB2 MLB2 TE2 ROLB2 SS2
FB2 TE3
FB1 KR2
KR1

As mentioned above, you can use formation subs for punts, punt returns, field goals, and field goal defense.

thanks. I am sure someone has tried this already, but if we were to manually edit all the players on the kick return team to have 99 blocking would it help with the return game? Would these guys actually hold their blocks or is this a lost cause? Because many of these players are on the defensive side of the ball the increased blocking ability should affect the rest of the game minimally....maybe? I dunno.

One minor edit. It is the kickoff specialist (Kicker or Punter) that handles kickoff duties.

It has been a while, but I think you used to be able to sub the kickoff formations. Maybe it was before Madden 15 though.

Honestly, I am going to give that a try. I recently made a thread about how the return game has not been touched in more than a decade. In 15 years, they only changes they made to the kicking game was changing the kick meter every 5 years, and the surprise onside kick-- which will soon re-emerge as a "new feature." Oh yeah... and they gave you more options to for FG block, none of which really mean anything.

I suspect that changing their attributes to 99 blocking will not really affect much because it's all canned animation but thanks to the guy who showed how how the depth chart influences the return team, at least I know who to edit
