I don't re-sign RBs and I only re-sign WRs if they're X-Factor guys who are 95+ overall. It's so easy to find good WRs and RBs late in the draft, in every draft, that it doesn't make sense to pay guys in the high 80s ovr IMO.

On the other hand, it's so hard to find good OL so I spend all of my money there and on cornerbacks.

Should only take a cap hit when a signing bonus is involved. With Franchise tag I believe there isn’t so you should have no cap hit.

You’ll take a penalty that is half of his contract value. Franchise tag is treated as a 1 year deal where half is guaranteed bonus, and the other half is salary, in Madden. If you tag him and then trade him in the off-season, I believe you will take the penalty on your cap that season. If you trade him during the season (waiting until week 8, like you’re saying) the penalty will be tacked onto your cap the following year.

So if his tag is $20M, just say. It’ll be a $10M penalty if you trade him. You just won a super bowl with the Giants and have 3 1st round picks again, so I don’t think realism is what you’re going for, so you can always just clear the penalty, if you want to do it that way.
