Re: Phil Frazier Says No 3rd Patch or DLC For Madden 09

WHAT A SLAP IN THE FACE!!!!

The feedback has been great ...from 6 year olds!
That commercial where the guy is playing his 6 year old daughter and "the game adjusts to you"...thats what this is all about, not us sim gamers. Not since '05.

This is why I downloaded updated NFL2k5 rosters yesterday from the espn2k5 forum.
I got tired of waiting...good thing I got a head start.

If 2k5 had a shot at NFL football, madden would be dead in the water.

BOTTOM LINE, how can you release a sports game where you cant control the style of gameplay?

Its in the shame!

Re: Phil Frazier Says No 3rd Patch or DLC For Madden 09

I dont really care anymore.. im holding my true finaly judgement on Madden 2010. If it bombs or comes out just as flawed as 09.. im totally done until a new development team takes over for EAport's football games or something else drastic happens...but i have high hopes for Madden 2010, i honestly do..i think they heard our cries and have seen our input and suggestions. If we ..the core gamers of madden mean ANYTHING To tiburon..we'll see a Madden next year that explodes with LIFE, that has that REAL atmosphere of NFL Football, that character, that fresh feel to it, that adrenaline filled football game we all been waiting for for so long.

Personally, im gonna give Madden one last shot next year..but thats it, if Madden 2010 dont deliver again, im TOTALLY done.

1. We want all the freaking bugs fixed, all the flawed gameplay elements changed totally around to where they are no longer an issue.

2. We want "choice" i feel us gamers that shell out money each year deserves CHOICE in madden, if we dont have choice in NFL football videogames..ATLEAST give us choice in the only NFL football game and this means sliders for both ends, a huge selection of game functions and of course various camera's including a custom camera option.

3. And this is JUST AS IMPORTANT AS 1 & 2. We MUST have a NFL Football videogame that has "heart & soul" which means atmosphere splattered all over the game..from pregame, during the game, half time show, end game show, playoff atmosphere, superbowl atmosphere, etc. We WANT and DESERVE not only a well playing madden but a madden thats also FUN and EXICTING TO PLAY!! This means tons of cut scenes, so many that they dont repeat too often. Also pregame stuff.. coaches, players, team staff, fans, etc gettng pumped in various cut scenes,etc..every game is DIFFRENT..lets not do this same routine each game..MIX IT UP..dont let it get old like in Head Coach..geezus, a monkey could do better. Look..just make madden fun and exciting.. make sure when we play a regular game that the play off games dont feel like a regular season game..i mean..how hard is taht to grasp or see? Then maybe take a peak at NFL2k5, do something like they did for half time or just something that makes it feel like a "real" half time show. More player emotion on the field, on the sidelines,etc.. lets see "GANG" celebrations after a TD.. just make the game feel REAL! Thats all you guys gotta do.. and you'll have a HUGE following of proud Madden players.

Its such a HUGE part of NFL Football..that Heart and soul i talk about..its wat the players thrive off of and more importantly, its what the fans thrive off of.. if Madden does not possess this important ingredient..its simply gonna feel dead as a door knob, stale, boring, repeative,etc.. PUT SOME LIFE INTO MADDEN 2010 FOR ONCE!!

Why not? You never tried it before..how about this, take our word for it this one time and listen to the "real gamers" not by some corporate yuppy, sitting behind a desk that hardly picks up his sticks *gamepad*.... look we deserve this, Tiburon Devs!! Give us what we been patiently waiting for...cant you see your destroying your hopes and this feeling of looking foward to the next madden? I havent looked forward for a next year's NFL football game in YEARS!! We suffered enough...

Now that Live has stepped it up, isn't it funny how EA's most popular game is the worst?

They really, and I mean REALLY need to scrap the entire game.. the code, the animations... everything and start over from null. They have just been piling **** on **** every year , and that pile is about to avalanche.

I agree 100% with MOST of what you said, but I put in bold that which I disagree with.

When the CURRENT dev team made decisions to "fix" broken elements of this game by 1) turning OFF fatigue to balance online no-huddle, rather than making OFFENSIVE fatigue higher (thereby punishing the cheesers by having the offense make errors such as false starts, errant passes, etc) and 2) "fixing" the QB throwing beyond the LOS (which should be a penalty, plain and simple) by having it so the DB doesn't leave the reciever wide open.

Think about it...those were THESE SAME PEOPLES fixes to these problems....personally, that does NOT instill confidence in me. That shows the same approach is being taken today as it was these past few years.....band-aid a major problem with the quickest and easiest fix, not making it right!

And now this....no DLC. So they're basically saying "hey, we got your $60.00, better luck next year....see ya"

DLC - Developers Lacking Commitment

Actually, a COMPANY lacking commitment to a once great product !

I feel bad for all the people who where anxiously waiting for some hope of making a once again lackluster product even playable.

Luckily I sold mine at Gamestop for $30 3 days ago.

Re: Phil Frazier Says No 3rd Patch or DLC For Madden 09

Personally, I think this was false advertising and a deliberate effort by Phil and the developers to get consumers to buy and/or hold onto the game, rather than trade it in and flood the market with used copies. I dug up the very first post from Phil, dated August 6, 2008, from before the game was released, where he talked about the possibility of DLC. You tell me whether this post reads like the DLC would or would not be coming out. I know it was part of what persuaded me to give this year's Madden a try, and I don't think it's right for them to get away with this without a stink being raised (note also his comment about them being "actually very happy with the non-patched product," again before the game was released):

"08/06/08
Evening,

There's been a lot of discussion around rosters and patches so i wanted to go ahead and post an update.

Rosters
For those that manged to get an early copy, you may have noticed that a roster update was recently made available. Many of you also noticed that Brett Favre was listed as the 2nd QB for the Packers. This roster was posted up as a final test of our roster update capability. We're actually prepping a more final roster update that should be available on 8/11.

As for our roster update frequency... Our current plan is to update rosters about every two weeks. This could change based on major roster movement but expect us to drop rosters on an average of twice a month through the Super Bowl.

Patch
Yes, I'm finally going to discuss the state and details of the patch.

Regarding the patch status... Yes we submitted a patch to MS and Sony about a week ago. They are currently going through certification and all indications point to them going live some time next week. Please understand that it's very easy for issues with the patch to delay the release of the patch. For example, if MS finds a new bug with the patch, it would easily be delayed by 2 weeks. We're hopeful the patch will drop on or around 8/14.

What's in the patch?

There's a number of changes in this patch. Most would never be noticed by the average consumer but some were targeted at improving the experience as quickly as we could.

1. Changed default quarter length of online leagues to 5 minutes.
2. Solved a very rare stability issue that occured when using a couple of playbooks.
3. Eliminated a button mashing glitch during high latency online games.
4. Eliminated a stability issue that sometimes occured while viewing the player HUB in online leagues.
5. Fixed a tricky disc eject glitch that occured at specific points of online games.
6. Kick Return Tuning - made improvements to help reduce frequent long kick returns.
7. Safety Tuning - eliminated issue where safeties in deep zone coverage would sometimes not react to a run to their side.
8. The game skill slider for interceptions was tuned to amplify it's affect.

What about some of the other early feedback on the game? Keep reading, we're not done.

Patch #2 & DLC
Now that some details for patch #1 have been discussed, it's important to note that we're not done. We think it's very important to continue to improve the game even after it's release. We're actually very happy with the non-patched product but having the ability to patch the game to make it the ultimate experience is fantastic capability that we definately want to use.

We're already hard at work on the 2nd patch and are also evaluating releasing a FREE DLC. Here's a sneak preview of what you might expect in future updates.

Patch #2 Possibilities
Please understand this list is under construction and won't be finalized until we've received more feedback on the final game from the community.
1. Ghost Juking OOB fix - aka CPU players running out of bounds
2. CPU Accuracy tuning
3. Amplify the field degredation effect (the system is currently working but is hidden by some of our late added post effects)
4. Other post-release community feedback

DLC Possibilities
The same warning comes with this one. We're still evaluating these changes and are working hard to get them out as quick as possible.
1. Accelerated Clock
2. CPU Sliders (you would have the all new human sliders as well as a brand new screen of CPU sliders)
3. Legacy Gen Controller Config
4. Madden Community Gamerpics (a variety of gamerpics that will show what community you belong to. make sure your community managers know you want an OS gamerpic.)

We're targeting a mid-September release for patch#2 and the DLC but will give constant updates and screenshots as we progress.

I look forward to seeing all of your very constructive feedback next week when the game is released and will do my best to answer additional questions here.

Phil"

That doesn't sound like any sort of a promise to me.

Phil and Ian made it abundantly clear that the DLC was something that might or might not happen. If you chose to take this as some sort of guarantee, that's entirely on you.
