Wondering if Kolbe can confirm this or not....

When throwing a knuckleball, will the catcher actually drop the pitch every now and then? I know for the White Sox, Charlie Haegar throws a knuckleball, and with AJ behind the plate, it's just hilarious to watch him drop about 80% of the knuckleballs. Was hoping we saw that in the game where catchers can't handle the pitch.

Watch any baseball player and they will actually point the ball in the opposite direction before throwing. Actually, you can try it yourself - pick a ball up and motion a throw.

I understand what you're saying now. If you rotate your wrist toward your target, it will unhinge and look properly. For comparision sake, this is the closest pic, where his ball is almost facing 2B, I could find showing Wake - he's in a different part of his delivery, but I think you get the jist. BTW, did you notice Wake sweating through his cap on the pic Kolbe posted - awesome!

Or as Tek put it "Catching the knuckleball is like trying to catch a fly with a chopstick."

Apparently he didn't learn anything from Mr. Miyagi.
I think he is questioning the direction the ball is facing. It is facing towards second and not towards home. Not so much the grip of his hand.
