I do, I give up, take a 5 min break or so, then get back to trying.

Not helping when I get the same result every time >_<. And my "skill" has nothing to do with it.

It's definitely frustrating, but complaining won't get you any closer. I've beaten HOF Sim playing off and on ball defense. Off ball D is probably easier. If you can efficiently score on offense and are playing with a middle of the road team you should be in most games playing off ball Defense. On ball-D is significantly more difficult for me, but that can be done too. With that I can definitely understand your pain.

As far as rotations are concerned, consider playing your starters for the vast majority of the game. I generally platoon sub when I play. I give my starters 3 minutes of rest at the end of quarters 1-3, and I keep my starters in all of the fourth quarter. When my bench guys are in, I make it a point to play very conservative, using as much shot clock as possible.

Another tip on D is to not make any adjustments. Leave everything on auto, and make your points of emphasis neutral on D. This has worked best for me.

I was having the same issues you are, but Coach2k's advice helped me a lot. Additionally, as many guys have said, playing a lot and getting better is important as well. You don't have to call plays either, it's really more about knowing how to put your players in positions to succeed (particularly based on their badge abilities). I.E. getting dominant post players the ball deep in the post, getting three point shooters semi-open looks, getting sprite posterizers or acrobatic finishers semi-open driving lanes, etc etc.

This is on MyCareer. You don't control those things.

And I am sooo tired of being told to "play better".

You can't "play better" when you miss wide open shots 70 % of the time and guys like Marcin Gortat hit contested fadeaway 3s like nothing.

what difficulty level do you normally play on? also what is your mastery of the game? this game has alot of tools to use. to make you run better offenses. defense is hit or miss.
