After reading through this thread I feel like I've been to easy on myself! In year 5 of my dynasty got my first head coaching job at UTSA.

I don't think getting a HC job after 5 years as a coordinator is unreasonable, but if you were at a team like Texas State playing in BCS bowls as the offensive coordinator then maybe that is a bit unrealistic.

My results were reasonably realistic (cparrish's sliders):

Tx St OC: 6-6
Tx St OC: 8-5
Tx St OC: 9-4
Auburn OC (Began as the reigning nat'l champs): 7-6
Auburn OC: 7-6
UTSA: In Preseason

What I meant was that I had no recruiting house rules which made recruiting overly easy. Tx St shouldn't have in my opinion gone from a 69 OVR to an 85 OVR after three seasons of recruiting.

I'd like to establish some form of recruiting restrictions. Seems too easy to recruit.

Re: Dynasty House Rule Ideas

Agreed. I think recruiting house rules are necessary to keeping it realistic. I'm in year two of my ODU dynasty. We are still a 1* program but I have tons of 3* talent across the country with me #1 on their list. With my recruiting rules I can only recruit 1* above my program level nationally and 2* above it if I recruit from my home state.

-1st year as HC can only recruit from home state, 3* or less
-2nd year as HC same as year 1. Can also recruit from out of state at same * as school prestige
-3rd year as HC can recruit any from home state, out of state must be 3* or less and start in top 3
-Every year after 4 as HC can recruit any from home state, out of state must start in top 3, max of 2 5* recruits, and 3 4* recruits targeted

-No scouting till after player is signed
-60 players on roster once in head coach role
-Must play all rivalry/bowl games

For the head coach rules, they apply to each job so if I take a new HC job after 3 years at one school, I have to start at the 1st year rules at the new school.

man this tough i'm working on it though.
Year 2 as head coach making changes until i can get to this level in SEC.

HC of UK so i need all the talent i can get since they 2 star upgrade from 1 star
when i got them last year.

I have to scout players before since I run a 3-3-5 i need backend that can cover.

I'm keep scouting until Wk 10.

Dropped players from 70 to 65. Next year once talent upgraded i'm drop it lower or keep it at 65 if need be.

1st HC i recruited those interested in UK with 1 5 Star and 1 Athlete.
2nd HC i recruiting only those interested in UK.
Year 3 i'm follow the rest of your House rules to check it out hopefully it don't get me fired

Re: Dynasty House Rule Ideas

For choosing a team after the bowl season, I simmed ahead to see which teams fired their coaches or had one retire to create my pool to choose from.

From there, other house rules can be set such as only taking a 1 star team, or not taking a team unless they hired someone in the sim ahead without experience.

Re: Dynasty House Rule Ideas

Asking for house rule clarification purposes: when you're a coordinator, does the other side of the team get super simmed? Most importantly, does it produce realistic results?

Re: Dynasty House Rule Ideas

I am using a modified version of Pocket Scouts great set of house rules.
My Auburn coach mode dynasty was getting ridiculous - 64 game win steak and 4 straight BCS championships but two years ago I implemented 'sanctions' which meant I could only recruit players from Pipeline states (FLA & MS) only if I was the top ranked school. Any players from Alabama regardless of interest could be recruited.

In year two of sanctions, I lost the BCS game 23-18 to Navy and now in year three, I am 5-0 but all the games are much closer and I see this team eventually losing this year.

It's made the game a lot more fun and I'm really curious to see where the program is in year five of sanctions.
