EA signed a 6 year deal in 2005, it doesn't expire until 2011. They had exclusive for NCAA 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11 and 12. We could see a game released summer of 2011 from 2K, but that's still a ways off.

I am all for as much competition in sports games as possible. How monopoly laws don't seem to apply to sports games is beyond me.

Because exclusive licensing agreements aren't monopolies? There's nothing to stop someone making a generic football game, like PES (Winning Eleven) do for soccer.

You could maybe argue it's anti-competitive behaviour, but I'm not sure how far that would go either.

EA scores NCAA Football rights

The deal, which does not cover any other NCAA-sanctioned sports, begins this year and is locked up over the next six years. The financial terms of the agreement were not made public.

NCAA Football 2006, the first game under the contract, is scheduled for a summer release.

Like I said,
Year 1- (Released 2005) NCAA 06
Year 2- (Released 2006) NCAA 07
Year 3- (Released 2007) NCAA 08
Year 4- (Released 2008) NCAA 09
Year 5- (Released 2009) NCAA 10
Year 6- (Released 2010) NCAA 11

I put NCAA 12 previously as an EA Exclusive, but I could be wrong there. 2K may be able buy rights in 2011 and put a game out that summer depending on the contract dates (expires April or December?)

So we have at least one more year of NCAA exclusivity assuming the contract is up in April 2011, or worst case 2 years if it runs through December 2011.

By all accounts, the game sucked (CFB2k3). I haven't heard of Avalance (Avalanche?) Software before, and since it seems the game was not well received, I would assume they wouldn't be back.

So I would assume that VC would just bring over any remaining NFL2k/APF2k people to work on a CFB game.

But with the timelines, it could be a long while before we really do see a CFB2k game again. We'll have to revisit this thread in 2012...

I hated Gamebreaker, even though the last one they put out was a long time ago, I hated those games and Gameday. Just terrible.
