Re: Something in the Making: Lam Matteo (PES 2009)

Introduction: npower Championship
The Teams and expections
by Mark Schwarzer last updated 1 April 2021

Leeds united's long journey back to the Premiership could come true.

Matt10: Considering it is the 2020 season, there has been some changes. Also, for those that do not know, Matteo's journey continues in FIFA 11. It just seems to be a better game, especially now that he's a manager.

npower Champ (1 below the Premiership)

1.Leeds Untied - expected to win the entire thing, a very steady hand by having no other than Bob Bradley (ex-USA coach) to lead them to the top.

2.QPR - they have waffled back and forth throughout the years, but this could be the year.

3.Southampton - the glory days of Pahars could return as the veteran is in his second stint with the club as manager. Who could go wrong with a squad that he has at his disposal.

4.Charlton - always a club that hangs around, but when it matters the most, they lack the mutli goal count that is required to surpass the league leaders.

5.Derby County - same as Charlton, they hang around - but without an established striker who won't get picked up by the bigger clubs, Derby will stay put.

6.Ipswich Town - one of the few clubs that is still considered an underdog despite winning the premiership once in 1961.

7.Millwall - no expectations, they have had their chances, but even the faithful supporters are hoping for a top 10 finish only.

8.Wolverhampton - with debut manager Lam Matteo, the expectation can be to not get relegated. Matteo may have scored plenty for the club, but as a manager, he can't go past that white line.

The rest:

9.Doncaster
10.Portsmouth
11.Norwich City
12.Reading
13.Sheffield utd
14.Watford
15.Burnley
16.Crystal Palace
17.Coventry City
18.Preston
19.Bristol City
20.Blackpool
21.Barnsley
22.Hull City
23.Swansea City
24.Cardiff City

Matt10: I will try my best to update the best I can on the league, there are so many games (great!) so updates will be quick.
Barclay's Premiership

1. Arsenal
2. Aston Villa
3. Blackburn
4. Bolton
5. Chelsea
6. Everton
7. Liverpool
8. Man. City
9. Man United
10. Middlesbrough
11. Newcastle Utd
12. Nottingham Forest
13. Tottenham
14. West Ham
15. Birmingham City
16. Sunderland
17. West Brom
18. Fulham
19. Stoke City
20. Wigan Ath

Re: Something in the Making: Lam Matteo (PES 2009)

5/20/21
Wolves open window with young loan signing

Transfer Budget: $9,830,400
Rem. Weekly Budget: $68,187

Lam Matteo has started off his campaign by taking hold of the transfer market's youth, signing 20-year old Stefan Roberts to a season long loan, who held great accolades within the Blackburn Rovers academy system.

"Roberts is a player who is well past development," states Matteo, "This is a critical signing for us, and with the strength of the veterans we have on this team - he will flourish."

ST S.Roberts, 20 yrs old, 65 ovr

6/1/21
Keogh released, other aged players

Transfer Budget: $9,830,400
Rem. Weekly Budget: $68,187

Wolves is currently holding the oldest average player in the league. Matteo is swiftly releasing some long time bench warmers; but at this point, noone is clear for safety, most recently 30-year old Andy Keogh.

6/4/21
Guedioura loaned out to Forest

Player: A. Guedioura (32 yrs old, 72 ovr)
Market Value: $21,00
Offered Wages: $21,800

Matteo continues to improve his older squad, loaning out injury plagued Guedioura to premiership side, Nottingham Forest.

Re: Something in the Making: Lam Matteo (PES 2009)

Preseason: Friendly 1
Wolves v NAC Breda (NED)

1-1
Ebanks-Blake 72'
Gorter 92'
-----
Caution: Henry (Wolves)
Sent Off: None

Injured: Roberts (Wolves)

WOLVES UNABLE TO HOLD ON
Matteo pleased with Ebanks-Blake finish

Johnson Peoples, wolves.uk

Ebanks-Blake came on for the injured Roberts, and scored a beauty.

All was well until Gorter's fantastic chip over the rock solid Hahneman.

"We put up a good fight, it's just unfortunate that we couldn't taste victory. I'm pleased with all the players - this is exactly what this club needed after last year."

Next Match: v Karabuksp (Away)
Injury Notes: Striker, Stefan Roberts, has partially torn his MCL, will be out for 40 days.

Good start
Nervous, but fits the role well

"This was a milestone for my career in football. I'm excited it has started off in the right direction. If I didn't have grey hairs already, I'm surely getting some soon."

Re: Something in the Making: Lam Matteo (PES 2009)

Wolves News
7/15/21: The club has signed FC Dallas (MLS) midfielder, Brick Shea, for an undisclosed amount. The 25-year old has recently received his first international cap for the United States, and could be part of Hans Backe's World Cup squad next year.

7/16/21: Rumors have arised that Wolves manager, Lam Matteo, is also pursuing DC United shot stopper, Bill Hamid. Hamid has averaged a 1.96 average the last two seasons for the recent MLS Cup runner ups. Along with Hamid, teammate Chris Pontius is also on the radar.

7/17/21: Wolves have a friendly in Turkey against Karabuksp, after a strong showing last week Lam Matteo's side will be expected to come away with a victory.

Preseason: Friendly 2
Karabukspor (TUR) v Wolves

0-0
-----
Caution: Jarvis (Wolves)
Sent Off: None
Injured: None

SCORELESS IN TURKEY
Despite dominating, Wolves unable to score

Johnson Peoples, wolves.uk

Kightly will be sure to finish the next one so he can move from the bench.

"It's been an exhausting trip, but we definitely needed this workout to prepare for the upcoming season. Good to see different types of football displayed, too bad we could not see any goals today."

Next Match: v Getafe (Home)
Injury Notes: None

Still no hiccups
The real test comes in a month

"Things are starting to come around. I don't have to say this team is gelling together, because they've been together for a number of years already - it's just adjusting to the fact that I'm the youngest manager they have seen. Haven't quite been galled "gaffer" just yet, haha."

Re: Something in the Making: Lam Matteo (PES 2009)

Wolves News
7/17/21: The club has signed DC United (MLS) striker, Chris Pontius. Pontius joins Brick Shea, who just signed earlier this week (and traveled to Turkey to play with the side). Pontius, 25 yrs old, can be used on the wings as well as up front as a target man.

7/18/21: Immediately following his teammate's signing, keeper Bill Hamid has officially signed with Wolves. Hamid will compete for the first spot behind 44-year old American Marcus Hahneman.

Re: Something in the Making: Lam Matteo (PES 2009)

Preseason: Friendly 3
Wolves v Getafe (ESP)

1-2
Pedro Rios 21'
Jarvis 45'
Pallardo 92'
-----
Caution: Jarvis (Wolves)
Sent Off: None
Injured: None

HEARTBREAKER
Wolves give up late goal to lose last friendly

Johnson Peoples, wolves.uk

Matt Jarvis equalized at the stroke of half time.

Pallardo's strong run paid off, resulting in a blast of a finish.

"There are no complaints about tonight's match. I'm ready for the Championship season in a couple of weeks. We played well tonight, and I think Wolves is going to impress some critics this year."

Next Match: v Barnsley (Home) - first league game
Injury Notes: None

Two Weeks

Matteo has his team, will there be an addition?

"I think the team is good where it's at right now. There are some tempting notions to sign a real standout player, but that is not what Wolves is all about. Plus, the funds they are requesting these days are beyond high."
