Re: Stats n Stuff

This is the year Brees goes nuts and not only breaks, but shatters Marino's record.

The Saints have 15 games this year either in a dome (11) in Florida (2) or outdoors early in the season in mild weather (2). The only tough game weather wise is potentially week 14 @ TEN.

Re: Stats n Stuff

It's probably a mix of sample size issues and the change in field position as a result of the kickoff being moved up.

I think the lockout, has left the defenses behind the offenses as well. Teams with new players on defense, simply have not been able to get on the same page, especially when it comes to their pressure packages and more exotic looks.

This doesn't make sense. Every year defenses are better than offenses in the early weeks. With an even shorter prep time the d should be even more ahead of the offenses if time was the factor. I think it's the extensive use of the no huddle offense that's giving offenses a huge advantage.

It's funny you say that. Pat Kirwin said the exact same thing I did on Friday afternoon...

The fact you disagree with me, makes more confident in my assessment.

Re: Stats n Stuff

With the lockout I feel it's a lot easier for the offense to stay sharp, as they can go through all their schemes, etc without contact. Rookie wise, with more and more offenses going to some spread type packages it fits their style as a lot of that is run in College.

Defense I imagine you can only do so much during the lockout to be ready, especially if you're not working in large groups as in having enough players to do 7v7s,etc.

In addition to the lockout affecting the defenses, so do the new rules limiting padded practices. Limited pads means less tackling. Appeals to more of a finesses (passing) game.

Re: Stats n Stuff

The past few weeks the stats are sort of evening out, teams total scoring has dropped a bit, and the passing numbers are starting to become more in line. (except for Aaron Rodgers he's beyond statistical tracking anyway)

Maybe Defenses are starting to catch up now?
