Re: Expanded Playoffs

I will always vote no to diluting the product.

It's already watered down enough as is.

Re: Expanded Playoffs

I dont think its watered down but I voted to stay at 6.

Business wise its smart to extend the playoffs.

Re: Expanded Playoffs

I'd like to see another team added. One less team sitting idle the first week would be nice.

Re: Expanded Playoffs

Here in Australia, our two main football codes (rugby league and Aussies Rules) have a top 8 system, where all 8 teams play in the first round, but the top 4 seeds get a second chance if they lose in the first round. It works like this (teams on the left are the HOME teams in each round):

First Round:
A) 1 v 4
B) 2 v 3
C) 5 v 8 (loser eliminated)
D) 6 v 7 (loser eliminated)

Second Round: (winners of A & B get byes)
E) loser of A vs winner of C (loser eliminated)
F) loser of B vs winner of D (loser eliminated)

Third Round:
G) winner of A vs winner F (loser eliminated)
H) winner of B vs winner E (loser eliminated)

Fourth Round:
Winners of G and H play each other for the championship (in the NFL, this would be the Conference title game with progression to the Super Bowl)

Would that ever be considered in the NFL? I'm not saying it should, I'm just throwing it out there. It probably works better locally because our leagues are smaller (16 in NRL, 18 in AFL although they play 24 and 22 regular season games in each sport respectively).
