Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

I saw that video when it first came out, one of those things I wish I never saw.

2nd player from the 2010 Blackhawks suing the team, but nothing will happen and they'll get 1st overall pick again to draft Celebrini, while other teams lose draft picks for breaking combine rules or messing up a trade.

Still kind of amazed that Barrasso, Vernon, and Pierre Turgeon (!) made the HOF. Curious to see what happens this year - it'll be tough for them to deny an unspoken "no Russians" policy if Datsyuk gets snubbed.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

The NHL is looking to tweak overtime.

Sounds good...except for what they want to tweak.

They want to eliminate teams going into the offensive zone and then skating back out of the zone (such as when they're doing line changes) and just going back to their end for a bit before breaking out again.

I'd rather they just made OT 10 mins.

If 90% of OT games end before the shootout, why not make OT 10 mins and more of that remaining percentage will be decided in OT. Unless the league thinks teams will be less urgent to end games in OT if it's 10 mins vs 5 mins.

*whispers* If you want urgency to end games in OT, make SO wins worth 1 point and SO losses worth none.

I'd be all for the 3-2-1 point system, but you know owners/gms/coaches would absolutely hate that.

You know how crazy fans will also get when their team is 45-27-10 and has 135pts, but a team that's 41-27-14 is ranked better because they have 136pts since they had more 3pt wins as well.

What. Just the opposite, in fact. A 3-2-1 system:

- would not add any extra intensity to OT; nothing has changed!
- would result in teams becoming even more conservative in the 3rd period of tied/close games than they are now, especially in intraconference games; you'll see more games go to OT/SO than you do now
- would result in mediocre coaches/GMs/owners pointing to their point totals as proof that they're "better than their record"; fans/media already are hardwired to believe that a 100-point team is "elite" and that a 92-point team is "10 games over .500"; they'll be overjoyed with further points creep!

It's always baffled me why so many push for a 3-2-1 format. It'll reward already-good teams (ie, those that win blowouts and can hold leads) but will likely make the on-ice product worse, not better.

Matt Petgrave was arrested for manslaughter in Adam Johnson's death.

I guess under British law he wasn't named, but it's obviously him.
