Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

The NHL should have had a hard protected list of 10 players etc. No deals, nothing. That would have made this expansion draft more exciting.

But we know deep down they (the other owners) really don't want Vegas successful right away. They just wanted the $$$$$.

Some interesting and expected names left exposed.

Neal, Reimer, Vatanen, Bogosian, TVR, Kronwall, Luongo(big shock. I thought Reimer for sure would be exposed), Brown, Staal, Dumba, Fleury, Methot, Yakupov among many more

Reimer was protected over Luongo. Luo's contract is too onerous to take on.

Kronwall has been trash for 2 years now. More surprised Howard was protected over Mrazek.

The one I didn't see coming was the Islanders protecting 5 defensemen. A few teams went off script here and there, but generally it's as predicted. My question is, what did Anaheim offer to Vegas for them not to select anyone?

What if Vegas does take Luongo....... They could have a real nice team if they aren't concerned about the cap. Though if teams like ducks offer up picks to not take anyone good, vegas would be loaded with picks.

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

Outside of some likely obvious ones(Jackets,Ducks,Wild), I tried not selecting guys I think would've had rights protected through a trade, and trying to avoid taking 2017 UFA/RFA(goalies though I did take some RFAs).

Neal-Plekanec-Ryan
Bailey-Staal-Boedker
Nordstrom-Marchessault-Burmistrov
Paquette-Grigorenko-Karlsson

Shinkaruk,Rychel,Khaira

Enstrom-Bogosian
Macdonald-Kronwall
Sbisa-Van Riemsdyk

Stoner,McNabb,Bystrom

Fleury
Raanta

Subban,Binnington,Wedgewood,Grubauer

They could then also deal Stoner,McNabb,Grubauer and one of those other goalies for draft picks, send the rest to the AHL, and have a solid team. Definitely won't be near bottom of the league with that roster. This team is almost right at the cap(72.7M), but after demotions and trades of Stoner,McNabb and so on, they'd have a cap hit around 65M.

Ken Holland has to be forcibly removed. NHL needs to invoke a "good of the game" clause or something and overthrow this demented lunatic who is destroying one of the blueblood franchises in the sport.

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

Islanders will deal vegas their 1st to not take one of their forwards. So replace Bailey on my roster with Ship and that's good.

Vegas with 3 firsts and possibly something like Stoner, McNabb, Dehann, Fleury to deal for picks! Could end up with 15m in cap space and maybe 10 picks in first 2 rounds of the 17-18 drafts!

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

Coyotes have informed Shane Doan that they won't be re-signing him.

This means either he retires, or joins a different franchise for first time in his career. I'm sure many are hoping he just goes to the Jets. Make his career come full circle.
