We have just posted another movie clip from our beta copy of NHL 2K6.
"Play like the pros with our revolutionary icon-based passing system. All-new combo passing and shooting controls let you queue up give-and-go attacks, tic-tac-toe passing, puck cycling, behind the net plays and more!"

I used a combination of Malignant and VeNOM2099 sliders for this clip.

Thanks a bunch for listening to requests. That's service . Looking forward to seeing what this one has to offer. I'm assuming your hardware problems (half-second lag) are still an issue, so it's hard for you to react precisely, yes? Is that a capture problem or something?

Yes, it's a capture problem. I need to get to Radio Shack and try something new.

Great clip Steve.

The slider adjustment really brought the game to a more realistic pace!

Hopefully we'll see the Habs in action soon! Thanks also for cycling through cameras - especially the HIGH SIDE!

Question - are there any apparent bugs (i.e., the previous nhl 2K games were plagued with NOT properly saving your settings... like the goal horn volume etc.)?

Cheers,

Cozmicoz

The difficulty level was Pro. You can find the sliders I requested (that are 95% based on Alpha99's sliders) and VeNOM2099's tweaks from this forum thread.

It's the best video we've seen so far. As some people have mentioned (on other forums) there were too many Interference calls but it needed bumping up in 2K5, so we obviously now know it won't need altering for 2K6. The video shows the 'Interference' slider at the maximum level.

There was a lot more stoppages, due to 'Goalie Freeze Puck Time' being put to Zero. Plus the 'Puck Retention' slider did its job, we maxed it out and because of this the CPU looked a lot better during the PP.

Oh one more thing. Yesterday I was pondering as to whether to bother sending some sliders to Steve (as I was in a lazy mood) but I'm so glad I did and even more thankful that Steve listened. It's the best video I've seen at the moment and I thank Steve for taking the time to do all of this.

Hey Malignant and Venom. Go ahead and let me know what I should adjust for the next clip. I think I'll bump it up to All-Star and get the penalties back to default. Let me know what else you'd like to see.

Nice stuff OS, i would like to see the caps in a game maybe, see how Semins name is pronounced and see if he has a player picture in the game. Good sliders, i like how they work, i want to put those in my 2k5 franchise for the time being

thanks again

I agree with the slider ideas... The game looks customizable as ever!

Please VERIFY if there is a true BROADCAST camera - i.e., one like the replay angles - but you can PLAY with it!

Thanks,

Suspense is killing me!

Cozmicoz

P.S. Heatly to the Sens... man they look good!

One thing I did notice though was that the default skating speed seems a bit slower in 2K6 than in 2K5. If it's too slow at SPEED ONE, bump it up to 2. Also, if you can make sure that FIGHTING is set to FIGHTERS ONLY, that would be great!

And if it's not too much to ask, can you turn off the MOMENTUM METER thing?

Looking forward to another great Video, Steve!

P.S.:

If you're still having problems with the inputs lagging because of the recording equipment, just let the CPU play against itself.

Steve,

Was the pinning slider maxed before? If not, could you max it out for the next vid? I'm interested to see how much additional board play/pinning it adds to the game.

Thanks!

Thanks Steve - please keep the movies coming - I've been waiting months for this. Its everything I wanted to see in a Top Shelf Tuesday but never got too...

A few things I'd like to see please:

- after an interesting goal please use the user controlled replay to show off what that is like, especially zoomed in so we can get a feel for the puck physics

- I thought the game looked very good with these sliders, although for my tastes the passing and player movement seemed a bit sluggish. Would like to see the speed bumped up a bit in those departments.

- Perhaps you can try and get some icon / pro control passing going, and/or call some coaching strategies like Crash Net etc.

- MOST IMPORTANTLY I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOUR IMPRESSIONS ON THE GAME, including whether you think its the best in the 2k series yet (certainly looks that way), what you think of the graphics and fun-factor, and just how much better you like it than NHL 2006 (seems obvious in the videos there is no contest between the two games). Thanks!

When you've got some free time give Venom's sliders a go.

Seeing as how the game does not have any type of "annalog" passing, meaning that passes don't go slower or faster depending on which player you're controlling or how long you press the pass button, then a compromise has to be reached. Not all passes in the NHL are 100 Mph like it is with the default pass settings. Also, for the player "sluggishness" you have to factor in that there were ALOT of special teams play (PP and PK) in the last video and that will bring a line's stamina down more quickly.

What I've always tried to recreate with my sliders was that players should be very tired by the end of the period (hence why the recovery is so low). The trick is not to jam on the SPEED BURST all the time and only use it when you're trying to get around a player or on a breakaway, or of course, when you're trying to beat the CPU player to a loose puck.

NHL Hockey is a fast sport, but generally, this is how it goes:

- Shots are faster than passes
- Passes are faster than Skating

Something that many people don't realise is that you will get from one end of the rink to the other alot faster by passing/dumping the puck than by carrying it with one lone player, and if you do the latter, then it should take you a good 10-12 real time seconds to get from one end to the other.

Though I agree that the game seems slower this year than in 2K5, which is why I suggested that if he found it a bit slow at 1 click, he could try with 2 clicks SPEED which I believe would be the limit to get real NHL speeds recreated in the videogame as anything above 3 clicks makes the game too arcadey.
