NBA 2K11 News Post

This month's NPD report was very kind to Take Two and 2K Sports, as NBA 2K11 topped software sales charts this month. Software sales overall are up 6% over last year, which is a good sign. What wasn't a good sign, and it could be a sign of trouble ahead for the gaming industry is a 26% drop in hardware sales.

Madden, FIFA and Smackdown vs. Raw all made appearances in the Top 10 this month as well.

Quote:
"Per the NPD's new reporting methods, the following titles cover all released platforms and there are no total sales numbers by title.

1) NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, PS2, PSP, WII & PC)
2) Fallout: New Vegas (360, PS3, PC)
3) Medal of Honor (360, PS3 & PC)
4) Fable III (360)
5) Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (360, PS3, WII, PC & DS)
6) Halo: Reach (360)
7) Just Dance 2 (Wii)
8) FIFA Soccer 11 (PS3, 360, WII, PS2, PSP, DS & PC)
9) Madden NFL 11 (360, PS3, WII, PS2 & PSP)
10) WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 (PS3, 360, PS2, WII & PSP)"

Hardware sales "drop"... Misleading. There is no new hardware. Install bases are huge. There is no new major console on the horizon. So, yeah. The sales will level off. The market is saturated.

NBA2K11 should really continue to sell well. I really hope so since this is a solid title, and the team that worked on this game deserves great profits for their efforts.

I think NHL was in there last month, which is still pretty good for a hockey game.

It's incredible how well FIFA sells in the U.S., beating Madden. Obviously, Madden has been out much longer but still it's remarkable given how much more popular football is than soccer.

Well you would expect that from a sports game that sold 65K to pc users.
1.1M is alot for 6 weeks. on average the price the game was sold for is $50 And manufacturing cost them around 10M total then there is also the NBA subsidy and they still come off with 30-35M dollars. If I was developing NBA elite 11 I would have invested in NBA 2K11 a couple of months back, But that would be insider trading I think?.

Congrats to 2K. I don't think we've seen a developer effort to improve a sports game across the board in a calendar year as 2K attempted with 2K11. Well deserved

Of course it would lead in sells.. Its a good game and it's out in every console ever made. But sells dont really dictate that a game i specifically better than another game

Fantastic news for 2K and well deserved. Guess the green light for 2K12 is bright and shining!

The number one sports game at number one. Justice is done.

The drop in hardware sales is meaningless. The current generation of consoles have been around a few years now. It stands to reason that most people that wanted one of these machines now owns one. I would expect that a fair number of current sales include the replacement of broken, out of warranty units.
