Madden NFL 17 News Post

EA Sports has detailed new additions to this year's franchise mode on their website.

The first blog post EA detailed a faster way to play franchise and new gameplanning features.

Play The Moments: Experience Franchise faster than ever. Jump into game-defining plays, drives and situations that matter to you, speeding up your experience and delivering more fun. For players who want to span their career the entire 30 years but are limited in time, Play the Moment will be your new way to play.

Quote:
"How does it work?

Before heading down to the field, choose between Play the Moments, Offense Only, Defense Only, or the Full Game. When you choose Play the Moments, the game will be simulated until it detects a key moment and then prompts you to jump right into the action. If you don’t want to play that particular moment, you can easily skip it. Choosing Offense Only or Defense Only before loading into the game allows you to easily play just one side of the ball.

You’ll be able to switch in and out of all the modes easily as you play your game. For example, you can start by playing the Full Game and then switch to Play the Moments at half-time once you have a sizable lead. It’s up to you on how you use it."
There will be different times you are called to 'play a moment'.

EA says that sometimes you will be prompted to play a full drive at the beginning of a game in order to get a lead early. In the last two minutes of a half you may be called upon to drive down the field and manage the clock and perhaps on defense you'll be called in on 3rd downs to get the ball back for your team. Really any 'big' moment of a game you can be called in on.

There will be a new sim speed feature which allows you to slow the game down and watch it unfold in real time during super-sim and during moments. This is an oft requested feature that is now being fulfilled.

Another big addition is that super-sim will now take into account quarter speed in order to try to deliver a game as close as possible to the 120 play-per-game NFL average as well.

Check out all of the new additions to 'Play the Moment' and Super-Sim on EA's site!

I was looking forward to actual big additions is all.

Position coaches that determine how well that position earns xp and progresses?

A real wear and tear injury system?

active/inactive roster?

Better offseason FA bidding system?

Commissioner tools to lock user assist tools on or off?

a system to renegotiate current contracts to free cap space?

a real draft board?

all of those would have been better than all the things we got, imo of course.

EDIT: Not to mention team and player chemistry, morale, holdouts, etc.....

Given what EA's done in the past this is a big leap. It will be even bigger if they give us formation subs through a patch like they hinted at.
Yea my point was the past 4 years havnt been anything special in franchise mode so it wouldn't have taken much to be the biggest upgrade

Didn't one of those Big Decision injury pictures show Donald Penn, offensive tackle, being injured?

That could indicate off-ball injuries, or maybe it was simulated or something.

This...I wonder if this has been touched at all. For instance, we know the Rams will be changing uniforms in the next couple of years, am I going to be stuck with their current set forever? Was really hoping for more customization here.

I wonder how that works for 32 team control. I hope that we can sim the games we dont want to play so that they show up on the ticker.

That's why that's your opinion. Those weren't the highest wants of the community in general. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean they didn't improve it tremendously.

I'm a happy camper. I finally got my full player editing (which in effect means we have custom draft classes). Add the ticker and well I'm just tickled pink (never understood what that meant, but my mom often says it).

Glad you guys got your practice squad, though I personally never cared about it.

My next big wish was for better stat tracking and history. Anything on that front?

And it was the first time it had happened in real life in how many decades? Putting a ton of resources and effort into something that rarely ever happens in real life just doesn't make sense. There is a certain point where "customization" stops intersecting with "realistic" and I don't think they're wrong to avoid pouring resources into this specific feature for that reason.

Now I'm sure this will be a focus at some point in the future, and I know that "relocation" also encompasses new stadiums which ARE very realistic and happen a lot more often than teams changing cities and/or names. I get that. I'm just talking about prioritizing and I think they're doing a pretty good job there.

These are some great additions, and makes me very excited!

I know there are still things people want, this is a hell of a start. They can only do so much in one cycle, and they have done a ton in this one overall.

Why wouldn't you be able to edit rookies names?
