Anyone going to be playing tonight? I'll likely be there after 9 pm ET, but my connection the last two nights has been awful, while during the day its been relatively smooth.

The Afoci

No one would know what the hell that was. Of course, it would give the poster, The Afoci a larger then life ego...

This is a splendid idea. No worries about my ego, after the photos of me, the chinchilla, a 55 gallon drum of 20/50 weight oil surfaced on internet last year, it has really been kept in check.

I have City of Heroes, but just can't play for more than 15 minutes without getting nauseous. Those 3D graphics really bother me (even though you can zoom the camera way out while you're outside, when you're inside buildings it zooms back in).

So I want to sell the game, but I'm not sure that anyone else could use it since I've used the activation/registration key. On other games I'm pretty sure this would work...I've entered a registration key for products I own on several of my computers with no problem. Just not sure I want to sell this on Ebay and then have the buyer unable to play.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to purchase a used copy of COH and play it with an already activated registration key?

Pumpy Tudors
05-09-2004, 11:43 AM
Sorry to see that, Runtheball, but I feel your pain. I've suffered through it, and I think I'm getting better, but I'm not going to be able to play it for marathon sessions. I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your question, however.

Speaking of City of Heroes, I was about to play yesterday when I got hit with the worst case of vertigo I've had in a long time. At least it got me before I started playing. I had to spend the next 18 hours in bed before the vertigo finally subsided, and even now, I don't feel 100% stable yet. I don't know if I should play the game again until I'm sure that whatever caused the vertigo is gone. Urgh.

Finally got my Fly on and the game shot up another few levels of cool. I don't know if I can go back to playing my other alts.

SirFozzie and I had a real fun group on a few missions. His defender kept us all alive. Oh, except that one time he lead an extra group of goons into our laps. :D The Green Gale even leveled up during the warehouse romp.

Still having fun with the game.

Feel your pain, Coffee.

Just created a second character, Sydney Bristow as a Natural Blaster. Will be getting Lvl 3 as soon as the connection stabalizes. Kinda different having a character with no debt and range attacks.

Cerulian Monk is chilling at Lvl 11, which seems like a very fun level. Steel Canyon and Perez Park are both challenging, as well as selected stuff in Kings Row.

*chuckles* this time it wasn't a Fozzie Death Charge (surprising I know, but being a defender/blaster type means no going "RARRRGH" and charging the enemy. It was chaos, pure utter chaos. and I'm hitting buttons to launch my energy attacks from a disatance. 1/100th of a second before my attack goes off, Ramsack defeats the enemy I was aiming for, so it switches to the next target in line of fire..

Who's not even in the fight, and who has 10 friends. They said.. "Oh.. we're invited to this party? CHARGE!"

Just a note, my controller Basaltic isn't in the FOFC SG anymore, I dropped out to join a SG with the people I am regularly grouping with these days. But give me a yell if anyone needs a hand with anything or wants a controller in the group.

Fozzie, btw, one thing I find useful as a defender or blaster is instead of targeting the enemy, just target your tank, Ramsack or whoever else. When you fire you'll automatically blast at whatever he is targeting...will prevent any accidental blasting of enemies who aren't in the fight yet.

Indeed. You are too damned funny. That was the quote of the mission. My only remark that i remember was after we cleared out a little conference room that looked like a classroom I stood behind the podium and announced, "class dismissed." :D

I'm so glad you went Defender. Don't know what we would have done without the Green Gale. I have a defender called Bonegavel now, but he is only like level 6. If you have a blaster you want to promote, maybe our alter alter egos can get together.

Notes on the Front Office Heroes Super Group. Any and all FOFCers are more than welcome in the group. The group really makes it easy and nice to get in touch with each other while in-game.

Ability to add members at this point:

Ill Blood
Green Gale
Ramsack

If you see one of the above in game, simply do a /tell to them and let them know your FOFC name and you will get an invite. (easiest thing to do is do a /friend and add each one to your list and the game will tell you when they are online)

This isn't an F'ing Elist group :D so anyone from this forum is welcome. Be persistent in your messaging. I say that because you may have done a /tell in the middle of battle or while AFK (away from keyboard), so they may not have seen you. There is email in-game, but it seems clunky.

Fixes & Changes

** Many client crashes that we've had sent in from users over the past two

weeks have been addressed. Keep sending in the error reports!**

City Zones:

* Unresponsive villains in the Sewer Network and Abandoned Sewer Network

should be ready to go!

* Removed lost and wandering NPCs from "The Hive."

Anti-griefing:

* A hero will now get defeat task credit for any villain defeat where his

team did at least 25% of the damage to the villain and they are within 200

ft of the villain when the villain is defeated. This is to minimize the

potential impact that "kill stealing" may have on the completion of defeat

tasks.

Powers:

* Empathy/Resurrect can no longer take Heal Enhancements - It doesn't need

them since it heals for 100% anyway, so these were wasted).

* Fixed the Endurance cost of Hack and Slash (for both Katana and

Broadsword). END costs were reversed.

* Increased the recharge time of Hasten and Accelerate Metabolism.

* Updated Fly description Text (power has not changed).

* Set all Scrapper and Tanker Dull Pain powers (and Earths Embrace) to cost

15 Endurance.

* Slightly increased Combustion Damage.

* Volume adjustment made to address complaint about Combat Jump SFX.

* Volume adjustment made to address complaints about targeting drone.

* Arctic Air can now be used with stealth powers.

* Increased Endurance cost of Telekinesis.

* Fixed Seismic Smash. Previously the power did not scale with the player's level.

* Telekinesis will no longer work on bosses, arch villains or giant monsters.

* Increased Endurance cost of Force bubble.

* Super Speed no longer buffs defense and debuffs ACC.

* Added Confusion to Controller/Ice Control/Arctic Air: "While

this power is active, you are surrounded in a fog of Arctic Air that

dramatically slows the attack and movement speed of nearby foes. The

chill of Arctic Air is so bitter that most foes are forced to flee,

albeit very slowly, from the immediate area. Those that do not flee from

the cold may attack their own allies, as the fog from the Arctic Air is

thick and can cause much confusion."

* Controller/Fire Control/Fire Imps: Reduced number if Fire Imps that are

summoned by 1 (it is now 2-5).

* Changed Gravity Control/Fold Space to Singularity (and moved

it to the end as the last power in the set): "You can create a very

powerful Gravitational Singularity. The Singularity will engage your

foes, assaulting them with various gravity powers. Any foes that attempt

to approach the Singularity will be violently hurls away. The

Singularity cannot be healed, but is highly resistant to all forms of

damage and nearly impervious to Controlling type powers."

* Increased Duration on Mesmerize, Mass Hypnotize and Salt Crystals.

* Increased Accuracy (more affected targets in the AoE) for Mass

Hypnotize and Salt Crystals.

* Dark Miasma/Darkest Night now also debuffs the target's Accuracy.

* Increased movement speed of Storm Summoning/Tornado.

* Decreased Recharge Time and Duration of Earth Control/Animate

Stone (to compensate for its slow movement).

* Update text on Earth Control to reflect its Debuff to Defense abilities.

* Fix Short Help (Tool Tips) for Blaster/Devices.

* Ice Armor/Wet Ice now takes Res Damage Enhancements.

* Increased Accuracy of Auto Turret.

Just to let everyone know, I may be scrapping Blizz and starting over with him. In reading the COH blasters board, and my experiences over the past few days, it seems like I really messed up with power selection. The character was becoming less and less fun to play as I wasn't good in a group or solo with him. So you may need to add me back to the supergroup, friends lists, etc.

Peregrine

What is your current build for Blizz Thom? I find that it's very hard to really mess up a character in this game, though I guess it could be done if you picked a lot of badly matched Pool powers.

Peregrine,

I've never taken the first "blast" power available because it seemed pretty useless when I could take the second one that did more damage. I also took Ice Sword, which many on the board say is a mistake because as a blaster you don't want to be in hand-to-hand. I also don't currently have a defense buff on hover which is probably my biggest mistake. I had one earlier, but I seemed to get hit just as much so I replaced it with another flight speed enhancement.

I have 2 melee attacks for my blaster which often cause me pain as I have to get up close and person to use them. Still fun, though. I blast away with my 2-3 ranged attacks and then swoop in and pummel. I also have the super long range sniper blast, but that takes about 45 seconds to recharge so i don't count that as a regular attack.

Thom, why can't you just replace your flight speed with a defense buff? Easy enough to do. The ice sword, maybe or maybe not, I see a lot of blasters using that, one today even. And neither of my blasters have the first attack, I think they're usually weak and from what I've heard, you stop using them by the mid-teens anyway.

hoopsguy
05-11-2004, 07:27 PM
For the blaster that I made up I took "taser", which amuses me quite a bit. I don't hang out very long up front, but use it for a quick hit-and-run when I'm waiting for my long range attacks to recharge. Very fun for solo missions, although it may not translate well as I hit higher levels.

Condors: This is where you look for a team up from the super group you're in, or look for a team. If you can get some one high level, you can sidekick him and as long as you're within 100 yards or so I believe, you fight with a bonus (you become one level lower then the hero you're a sidekick to)

Condors, only a few missions have a time limit on them and they will state it pretty clearly. The rest can sit in your missions queue for awhile, but you can only have three missions at a time so this will keep you from accepting other missions.

Indeed. With 5 blasters and 2 defs I thought we would be in for a tough time but I think we proved that wrong. I think it goes to show you that all you need are healers and the rest takes care of itself.

After our little venture, I went to Boomtown and hooked up with a group that was invincible. I didn't die once [knock on wood] and erased all 3000 of my debt and I'm now 15th level.

Even after my little suarez in BT going against higher (red/purple) powered villains, it seems that the best xp to death ratio is helping others with missions that are a level lower than your own. 2+ lower and it is worthless, higher and you best have a kick ass group (hard to come by, as we all know).

Last night was fun and I hope we can do it again soon. Doc, how is your char coming along?

Did you get the skulls and hellions? Misssions are set to whatever level you take them at. So if you take a mission at lvl 10 most likely there will be lvl 10 guys in there(unless you are in a team of 6-8 then they could be lvl 12).You can wait as long as you want and they will not go up in level. I did that mission you were talking about and some of the guys were one lvl higher than me including bosses.I got my ass handed to me at my current lvl. So i just waited til i leveled up and had no problem soloing it. I assume they made this mission so tough is because you get a souvneir after you complete it.

I've updated the list of characters:

http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showpost.php?p=460834&postcount=183

Again, to join to the Front Office Heroes, all you have to do is find us in game, let us know who you are, and you'll get an invite.

add one or all of the following to your friend list:

Ill Blood
Green Gale
Ramsack

to do this, go to the chat box and type /friend Green Gale and that's it. You can now go to your Friends list and see if that person is logged in. If they are, left click their name in the list, then right click and select Chat. This inserts the proper info in the chat bar. Then, just type your message.

And, if you have a buddy that wants to join the group but isn't a member of this forum, make them come here and join FOFC :) first.

I think you would be shamed off the servers. People have names similar to (c)'d names, but have yet to see a direct use. Would be interesting to try naming a character Super Man or something to see if it lets you.

if you use an actual copyrighted name you will have to reroll the character (someone was upset about this on their forums a little while back) and i think you lose all exp with that character so i would be safe rather than sorry.

I have decided to keep Blizz for now, though I may not play him much, especially with over 1000 xp debt (and accumulated in one night's play).

Peregrine,
I had forgotten I also had a second melee attack-air superiority. That gave me only one non-area of attack power plus chilbain, a damage over time power. Since blasters are all about damage, I was missing out not taking the first attack, as I had to wait for the only one I had to recharge.

Seeing that there seems to be a few ice blasters now, I may create another blaster with a less popular power for some variety-what blaster power group don't we have?
I also have Pastor Cross-a mind control/empath healer at level 6 now with the all important resurrect power if you want to add him to the group.

I'm also going to create either a controller or tank, probably a controller, since we seem to have less of those around. Let you know when I create him

Nah, you don't need to be level 10 to join, just to start your own. Contact Ramsack, Green Gale, or Ill Blood to join the FOFC group.

Having a lot of fun playing a blaster ... wonder if I would have enjoyed a scrapper as much as my 2nd character if I had played the blaster first?

kieran = 10 tank inv/axe basically its gwain(my other tank) with focus on the actual ability to tank has all his defense skills avaiable and provoke already, although he is kinda useless solo (only offense he has is brawl and gash which you start out with at level 1) he will be an invaluable asset at later levels.

Here's something I learned yesterday on the main COH forums. I had always noticed some weird color effects with the game, notably that whites all seem to turn blue at night. I just assumed this is the way the game was built, until today when I read that it's a graphical issue affecting people with ATI Radeon cards. No known patch to fix it yet.

Dangit! Here I've been playing this game for about 10 days now, and never thought to see if there were any other FOFCers about. DAMN! I've been playing on Protector server (in case anyone happens by there). Shadow Serpent is currently a L14 dark/dark scrapper. I just got Teleport, which is loads of fun. :)

I have been thinking of starting an alt on another server. Virtue sounds like a good choice. :) I'm also a masochist at heart, and much prefer the toe-to-toe types. I may start a new tanker tonight...we'll see.

Should I just give a broadcast "FOFC!" shout or what?

After this many hours of play, the game is starting to reach the point of NEW CONTENT OR ELSE. After playing the higher level characters, starting over with a new character is painful.

This game seems to cater more towards the casual gamer, rather than the power-gamer. Cyber Freud just hit level 12 & I've finally got into my first 2 story arcs (The Vahzilok plot & Skulls vs Hellions gang war / trafficking ring). If I had blazed through these in a night, I probably would have been bored, but as it is, I'm still content.

The new feature update promises more content, as well.

(maybe it is there and I don't know it) I wish that all the story pieces you uncover were in a log format that you could go back and read through. I don't think they are complicated, but I will sometimes spend a week not working on my own arcs and basically team up with others and complete their missions, so the story elements that are part of my cahracter are a bit loose, if you know what i mean.

There is so much they could add to make this game truly amazing, as it is, it is really only worth about a 1-2 months of casual play (far more than any other MMO i've played, BTW).

I don't see many in the FOH on anymore. They've either dropped out of the game or are playing other alts.

I will hopefully be on tonight with Ramsack. I only had about 40 mins last night to spend online and I used it on the test server. I want to be in-the-know on changes that are coming down the pike.

FYI: If you are interested in the test server, don't let the game copy down the 700+ Mb's of data. Just copy your entire CoH directory to a new folder (e.g., call it CoHTest) and then make a shortcut for that directory's CoHUpdate.exe (or whatever it is called) and throw the -test at the end of the target string. This way, the game only has to update a few meg's of files and not the entire stinking game.

dola, if people want to create new characters on Virtue (or wherever) we should do it together in larger groups so we can mission together at the early levels. I started a new character the other day and soloing early is a bitch. Would be much better if we could team up at the tender levels < 8 and we would also have characters that are more or less equal.

I'm up for this and I agree we need to set it up ahead of time and plan to create our characters at the same time so we can play together from the start.

I think we should have these characters on one of the newer servers like Champion-to keep them seperate from our "main" characters and for a selfish reason because I seem to have less mapserver disconnects on a less populated server, and Virtue has to be one of the top populated servers.

I've been spending most of my time with Ramsack trying to discover what the higher levels have to offer and it really is just more of the same. Somehow, however, I'm still having fun (i keep double clicking the icon on my desktop - has to mean something).

Having spent most of my time now with an Energy Blaster (excels at knock back and damage), I created an ice-blaster on another server (can't recall this moment) and I must say that I now much prefer the ice over the energy. Freezing people in their place and doing DoT is very nice and, while i may not remember exactly, I swear it is easier to take down a foe with the ice powers.

The myriad of configurations (Origin, Type, Powers, Enhancement slots, Enhancements) really allows for a great deal of replayability even though the game is pretty much the same (content wise) for each. Depending on your decisions, your role on a team is very different (as you would think). The only 2 that I think blur the line is in Tanker and Scrapper. Both are melee only and one deals more damage and the other has more hit points. I'm not sure I see much more difference than that.

I think my next project will be to coddle a controller.

I think tanker and scrapper are way different. A scrapper sucks and a tanker is useful. In a team as a tanker, with a healer in a team i can hit the boss and a few minions and keep them on me and away from attacking my teammates and survive. As a scrapper ive made the mistake of attacking a boss one level below me and couldnt get healed in time before i get my ass handed to me. Usally i will just attack a minion are a Lt. that only has a ranged attack(I'll attack a Headman Blaster over a Headman Swordsman for example).Ill let the tanker attack the boss and help him after im finished with the weaker guys.

Scrappers are tough to use because their defense isn't that great and their offense isn't any better then a tanker. I use a natural scrapper though and havent recalled ever seeing someone of that combo before. Can't complain with Senor Bug though.

i think blaster assault/devices is probally considered the most "powerfull" template but they are changing caltrops so mobs will have a min slow effect(with ignite/caltrops fully slotted is insane for min risk exp) it will affect all slowing powers.

fire tanker burn + provoke is also considered ultra powerfull (also going to be toned down)

Thomkal

So what characters are people planning to play and what day do we want to start this? I haven't decided what character I'm going to make other than the fact that it will NOT be a healer. So someone else make one. :) I still vote for a less populated server like Champion to play them on too. Let's get some specifics down so we can play sooner.

hoopsguy
05-24-2004, 04:06 PM
I've started playing on Victory with a couple of new characters and have found it to be much less populated. Heck, I visited Ms. Liberty and there wasn't another character to be seen at one point. Another time there were 2-3 there. Much fewer drops than Virtue.

I'll take a healer, haven't played one yet.

Peregrine

Actually most scrappers have much better offense than a tanker. I have a level 15 tanker which I enjoy a lot, but I am a defensive-oriented tanker and don't do much damage, I'm usually glad to have a scrapper in my group because they can do some damage (though I keep the mobs taunted onto me, of course.) I mean, I have only two attacks (besides Brawl) and 4 enh slots total between them. That's not much offense.

At higher levels, I've heard scrappers are starting to hack out a useful niche for themselves, some of them at least, by using stealth moves and things like phase shift, they can do hit-and-run attacks where they deliver damage but get out of combat fast before they die. Guess it will remain to be seen how this will work.

Victory sounds fine to me. How does tonight sound? I'm not sure of time (EST) but we can meet here in the PM tonight and discuss or find a chat room somewhere or irc.

I would be willing to take anything other than a blaster as I have 2 of those going on Virtue. A controller/healer/tanker would be my choice in that order but I'm flexible.

We could then use the Victory server as our GROUP server so when we play there we are mostly together and under a super group (once we reach 10th). Playing in a group at early levels is a great way to advance quickly and have tons of fun with people you know. Seems that our virtue characters have too many disparate levels and is hard to team that way. If we can keep our Victory characters pretty much team-oriented only, we should be fine.

just a thought.

I agree whole-heartedly with this. Let's make an attempt to dedicate 1,2, or as many nights a week as we can a week to Victory Front Office Hero Super Group play.

It will probably be a much better experience now that we all have a bunch of characters and hours under our belts. I still want to keep FOH alive on Virtue, but an out of the way server for this is good.

(copied from official boards)

The citizens of Paragon City like to read up and memorize information about their favorite heroes. But you need to know who to talk to so you can get the information you need.

When in Paragon City, talk to the following people for the info you need.

Name Begins with the letter - Info they give
--------------------------------------------------

J - Various Stat information
F - Paragorn Official Time
E - Real Time
M - Time Played
N - Number of Logins
K - Damage output for the day

So get out there Heroes and rub elbows!

My problems were mostly when I was near the Brawler for levels and when there were a number of trees on the screen. Mostly related to video card ... starting to put some money aside for it now. In other words, I don't think it was the Victory server that was the problem, but my GeoForce2 car (standard one for my PC when I got it 2+ years ago).

Bonegavel

Last night was a blast (apart from hoopsguy's drops).

Cometflash, Project Schism, BlackFedora, and Doc Evil were eventually joined by GI Jeeber (with the Tom Selleck stash) and took a big chunk out of the Hellion's foothold in Galaxy City.

It is really hard to give any kind of account of the activities in the game because so much happens at once and there is no time to stop and write it down.

It goes to show you that teaming up is the way to go as most of us reached 5th level by the end of 2 hours. And... not one death! We had a perfect combo of powers:

2 Defenders. Can't leave home without 'em
1 Blaster (2 with jeebs). When you just need to finish off those baddies that won't die.
1 Controller. Put 'em to sleep and give them migraines.

The typical encounter would go like this...

The Lts. were the first to be mesmerized or dominitated, then frozen in place with ice, then finished off with energy blast. After that, the controller would simply assess the biggest threat to the group and begin immobilizing them to allow the remaining ensemble relative freedom to blast the baddies to hell. It didn't take long for us to begin dissecting groups while taking minimal damage.

Ok... the next session will be Thursday night at 9pm. I guess we should post in here what character we are bringing to the party. Keep in mind that teams can only consist of 8 characters, so if we get more than that, we can simply split up into multiple teams.

If you wern't involved last night and would like to participate, log into Victory and promote a character to the 5th level and then wait for Thursday. I was able to get The BlackFedora up to 5, and I may log in tonight to do the same to my Tanker, Caution Yellow, to be ready for Thursday if we need him.

Having a mix of archetypes was fun to watch in action. To all the whackos on the CoH forums that talk about Blaster's dominance must have never played a blaster. The devs did a great job giving every archetype a function and purpose.

Another fun evening last night, had about 8 different people participate over the course of the evening:

BlackFedora
CometFlash
Project Schism
Chillblade/Shrubber (did not realize this was same person until now)
Lug
Key West Mike (cameo appearance)
GI Jeeber

We weren't able to maintain the "no deaths, easy XP" standard from the first night, as a ridiculously large number of Vaz took us down the first two times we tried it. One thing we learned there is that we depend on our controller (Fedora) pretty heavily for the large encounters. With him gone, and one wrong pull of a group, things got ugly quick.

Another fun encounter had us taking on a colony of Hellions. Forget who said this, but commented that the two-level room stacked with criminals looked like Shawshank. Our first aborted attempt left everyone dead. I had just hit level 6 with my healer and tried to vacate as the last guy, only to die five feet from the door. Yuck ... of course, no one had an awaken and I was the only guy with resurrection. Good news is that Fedora has picked up Teleport for party members, shortening the walk of shame from hospital back to mission. On the subsequent effort we unloaded on the Hellions.

Most of the party is Level 7 at this point. Hope we can do this again next Tuesday. If someone else wants to make up a healer I wouldn't mind having the option of playing either my Tanker or Controller with this group every once in awhile. Of course, it will get harder with time to just whip out a character that is the same level as our group.

I was the source of the Shawshank comment :D

I wish I hadn't been so tired and full of gloom (my patio seems ok even though it rained heavily most of the night) as we had a good session.

I felt bad for Chillblade after we asked to switch from his blaster (shrubber) to this tanker and he proceeded to get whooped upon and dead. What happened to bare-chested, margarita sipping Fritz?

I think we have a really good mix of powers in the group and I'm having a lot of fun playing my first controller. It would be great to be able to get some sort of dynasty going, but I'm not sure how to approach it.

Hoops, we can get together in off nights on Victory to promote other chars to the same level so we can switch it up. Just let me know when.

Sorry I dropped guys. When I died and got kicked to the medical center the PC locked up. By the time I got back online the phone call I had been waiting on came through.

I ought to be around for the next session and will spend some time catching up a little.

I did level once, and took distract. Supposedly you can use this to get one baddy to attack another, which seemed like a good power when you are fighting a horde that may just be too strong.

BTW, were those wind gusts doing anything?

Thanks gain for letting me in.

Hey that was fun last night. I didn't mind the deaths with Chillblade too much. I am still learning the game so dying is to be expected.

I started a new tanker (fire/fire) to replace Chillblade...that turd armor graphic is just too horrible LOL. He is named The Charbroiler so keep an eye out.

Thanks for letting me join. Good fun.

I had a lot of fun as well except for when I would lead others to their untimely death, by accident of course. Having only played ranged characters in both CoH and Dark Age it may take some time for me to get used to running with a tanker. Hopefully things will get easier for me and I won't make so many stupid mistakes. BTW, if you can't tell, I'm very hard on myself when it comes to these damn games.

Fritz, I was very disappointed not to have seen you there since you had already split by the time that I had gotten off of work. My character was created on your behalf and I was hoping to get a laugh out of you once you had seen him. O'well, maybe next week.

I have it on Fighting Miner and it's a sort of rock armor. You're supposed to be so in tune with the earth that you can draw upon it's strength to give you protection, or some garbage like that...

Although I patterned and named Chillblade to match his Ice Melee offense, I chose the Stone Armor defensive set because the powers looked like a strong combo. In my week plus running around, I never saw any stone armor graphics on other players, so I figured they were more subtle graphically, like the Invulnerability power set.

Had I known my new power was going to make me look like last night's dinner, I would have went another way. What were the developers thinking?

There is not tanking except into the hospital. Others are telling me that the tanker comes into its own around 8-10th level. I hope because I can't wade into melee and live. I'm an Invince/Fire tanker and I should have named myself PushOver or SirDiesALot. I know the hospital staff by name.

I think you just have to be careful with tankers at first. I really had few problems with mine in terms of dying, but you don't really start getting your abilities slotted up till level 10 or so. A lot of people (including me) make the mistake of getting Provoke too early, like at 8 or 10, when your defensive abilities can't handle the aggro that Provoke provides. I'm still liking my tanker a lot, up to level 17 now.

we did one last mission after PP and that easily wiped out my debt so I'm sure you'll be debt free in the first half hour.

Our combination last night was a bit interesting. IIRC, in the beginning there were 2 or 3 controllers, 2 tankers, 1 blaster, and 1 non-healing defender. Doc kept dropping and was the only true healer on the team. :(

As much as it would be good to get the "perfect" mix of ATs for our group, I think I am more interested to see if we just use whatever combo shows up and see if we can find a strategy to make it work. Adds a bit of uncertainty to the mix.

Sorry I wasn't able to help out the group last night. I had just a terrible time getting onto the server. Plus, I had some offline issues going on last night that really should have gotten my full attention instead of CoH. After a certain point of restarting, I got the impression that karma was kicking in and decided to step away from the computer for the evening.

What level are guys at now? I'm not sure how much time I'll have before tomorrow night's session, but I can probably get up to Lvl 8. Also, I suspect that the level of the healer relative to the group isn't quite as important as just being there.

Finally, I would enjoy a night in Perez with this group. I've taken this character there a couple of times in between our visits and have always had a good time with large groups in Perez. Plus, I'll cut down on the long walks back from Atlas when people buy the farm. Now if I can find a way to get the new video card before tomorrow night .....

grouped with gi tonight it was fun exept in the beginning. Had the pleasure of being in a team with the biggest dipshit Ive met in the game so far . Name was heartbreaker. first we go in the sewers and then we dont get any xp because there is a lvl 9 in the team. He (i am assuming) kicks out the guy without saying anything. I just shrug it off. Then we get split up and 1 of are tankers dies. He doesnt have a revive and then the dipshit says he has one but wont give it up. Then the red flag goes up in my head that this person is defiantly a dipshit. so the tanker goes to the hospital and makes a comment about the persons maturity. Then after a minute kicks him out because he was going to sit there and leech xp.

Everyone quits and i sent a tell telling him good luck getting out of here alive alone fuckface. Unfourtanly i died trying to get out(no debt yet). And i see the dipshit coming out of the hosptial. Easily the dumbest person ive had to deal with so far in the game.

Had to leave a little early last night, but here is a recap from the couple of hours that I was there.

Black Fedora, Cometflash, Project Schism, Charbroiler, and Doctor Evil set out for Perez Park. In an effort to avoid the bloodbath that was Tuesday night, it was agreed to approach from the Atlas Park side and start with the Lvl 7 groups, slowly working our way up. Our group was composed of Lvl 7-9 heroes. It was apparent quickly that the Level 7 and 8s were not going to push us much. Key West Mike soon joined us (love the TP power for Black Fedora, saves aimless and dangerous walking to catch up with group) and we started targeting some bigger game. If we could find it .... Perez Park was a ghost town, obviously a lot of other heroes were patrolling here as well.

We began heading back to the Atlas Park exit, with the intent of taking on a couple of missions. On the way back we finally ran across a Lvl 10 group. Gulp. Yet we finished them with surprising ease. Helps that there was no Damned (boss) in the group. Now we were getting a little cocky, taking on 9s and 10s and acquitting ourselves nicely until we ran into a buzzsaw. Four of the six men went down to a group of 10s led by a Damned that we didn't take out very quickly. Key West Mike and I managed to escape the bloodbath with our lives. From there, Doc Evil made one aborted attempt to return to the scene of the slaughter before getting some help from KWM and getting in to resurrect Black Fedora. From there, Fedora was able to teleport the corpses to safety where we were able to finish resurrecting our party.

Chastened, we made a point of taking out the Damned more aggressively going forward and just tightening up our play in general. The gangs were back in force in Perez at this point, so we proceeded to rout everything in sight until KWM headed out for the night. I don't think there was another battle where we lost two men. It did seem, on a couple of occassions, that the Hellions had it out for Black Fedora, relentlessly chasing him around the map.

Down to five men, we sent the call out to Aucoin to join the fold as we headed off to Atlas Park to take out a couple of missions. It was at this point that I called it a night, weary from a busy session of healing and looking to placate Mrs Evil/Hoopsguy on the homefront.

Bonegavel
06-04-2004, 07:59 AM
Nice recount HG. I'm wondering if the Hellions chasing me (which is something new, IIRC) is thanks to the patch. Something in the patch about Taunt/Provoke/aggro from tanks not being as effective/total. Normally the Tank keeps most of the MOB engaged. Personally, I'm glad as it was something unexpected as I typically sit back and mind-control in relative safety.

I really don't see what everyone on the CoH forums is bitching about with the new patch. We had fun.

In regards to PP being a ghost town...yesterday afternoon I took GI Jeeber out for a while in King's Row and the whole entire area was deserted. the people on the board are blowing things way out of porportion (sp?) I played yesterday with my main guy and had an easy time with lvl 29s and majority in the team was 26-27. You just have to play smart. we got killed because comet got disconnected during the fight. and then when the mobs were already aggroed black fedora got too close and they all attacked him before the rest of us got there.

gi
06-04-2004, 12:00 PM
after 5 levels I believe it is no longer about being smart...just the odds are sooo hard now. Like you start with a 1% chance to hit. I read the dev notes on this. Smart play is always missing from a lot of people. Why work for something right? Only the easy way...blah blah....

Not that I believe this patch is a bad thing. Only something to keep in mind now with grouping similar level heros.

As for the patch, i think it is bang on and it seems that support charcters will now be in more demand than ever. You are going to have to buff/debuff the hell out of teams to get the job done. Before the patch with Ramsack (i've joined a very active SG on Virtue), we never needed healing. If you had a few green and blue inspirations you didn't need a healer even taking on 5+ level baddies.

controllers and defs are going to be far more useful now and that is good, IMHO.

Good fun again last night. Sorry I was unable to stay later, but living with my elderly parents means I need to help them out on very short notice on occasion.

Charbroiler got killed a couple times but still gained half a level. Tanker is a pretty fun class to play so far. Taunting 5 different mobs away from beleaguered teammates during one encounter was my personal highlight. It can be a little frustrating being unable to deal much damage...it takes me forever to kill anything my level or above.

I started a dark/invulnerability scrapper and got him to level 6...will mainly solo when I play him but he might be ok in a duo or small group setting. Professor Ion is his name.

Bonegavel, never saw you online last night. Of course, didn't have a name to search for either, which makes it a little more difficult. I pondered asking each hero around Lvl 6 that I saw, "Are you Bonegavel?" but pretty quickly decided I didn't hate myself enough to do this. So I sent a tell to Aucoin, who had picked up a couple of other people to do some missions. I think we both got two levels before calling it quits.

Long story short, I have a Controller named Bulletproof Ike that is sitting at 8th level that I could bring into action tonight, depending on what the party is going to look like. If Black Fedora won't be in action, and Aucoin will be, then I might go this route just to do something different. I also have leveled up my Tanker Don the Baptist to 10th level.

We are fast approaching the point where we can sidekick lower level characters if someone feels like bringing along a new character without having to level them up to 7/8/9 to play with the group. Also, it is drawing near the time to pick out a superhero team name. Lets come up with something that doesn't involve violating fowls.

I have to apologize for last night. My evening turned into an impromptu patio party with several neighbors as our patio is FINALLY complete and we moved all the furniture onto it. I cooked many hotdogs and passed out many beers and when darkness came, I spent another hour or so under-the-lights shoveling dirt. I have 3 mulch beds to finish and the wife has plants sitting around waiting for my part to be complete. BTW, shoveling dirt with a partial buzz in very humid weather isn't recommended.

I had planned on logging in around 9 or so, but once I finally entered my house around 10:30, I went for a shower and then bed.

Bonegavel Says "You don't own your house; your house owns you" :)

My scrapper is named Albino Claw and is a regen/claw. I will definitely be on at 9pm tonight for our Tues/Thurs mixer and will probably use BlackFedora as Albino isn't up-to-speed yet.

What zone are we meeting in? I vote for Atlas Park 2 at Ms Liberty.

We are fast approaching the point where we can sidekick lower level characters if someone feels like bringing along a new character without having to level them up to 7/8/9 to play with the group. Also, it is drawing near the time to pick out a superhero team name. Lets come up with something that doesn't involve violating fowls.
I vote for "The Isle of Misfit Toys" for an SG name.

AP2 is fine with me. I like your SG name better than mine :) And yes, your house owns you..that is why I sold mine and rent now...

I have to work tonight, but I'll join y'all when I'm done there. Hopefully that will be at 1030 Central at the very latest...

My monitor woes kept me from returning last night. :( So what happened after I left and did anyone get to Level 10? Not sure if I will be there on Thurs (or next Tues) as I'm going out of town starting Friday morning through Tues afternoon.

Ended up with a crew of seven for last night, with a rotating cast that had some new characters from the usual FOFC participants.

Aucoin took over as the healer on this evening, allowing me to bring in a Gravity/Force Field (think I used one force field in three hours) Controller named Bulletproof Ike. Black Fedora took the night off to allow Albino Claw to show us how to die repeatedly against Vaz. There were three big missions, one to recover the Jewel of Hera, another to down a Clockworks boss, and a third to take out a top-level Vaz. Competition was level 8 or 9 for most of the evening, but they came in serious numbers with a lot of lieutenants and bosses. All in all, a lot of fun blasting through these missions. I think everyone got at least one level. We have a few people that should be right on the brink of Level 10, so next week we should be able to sidekick people who want to bring a new hero along for the ride.

Yes. Dying 101 was in session last night and I hope you all learned some good techniques. Actually, hoopsguy's suggestion, to wait for battle to ensue and then come in from the perifery, was the key to my later success. Thanks. It didn't help that I was only 7th level going against 9th Level Lts and Bosses. With the current MOB scaling, it is real tough to take out MOBs a little higher than you.

Scrappers are fun but they die way too easily. I think I will solo him to be at least a level higher than the group so I can participate. :)

Still had fun. JeeberD, I will hopefully send you the couple-o-screenshots I have of the group tonight. Side-Kicking will open up our ability to play all sorts of alts if we want.

I had a fun (if not taxing) time healing you guys last night. Your Scrapper kept me very busy. I have found a whole new appreciation for the Hasten ability. Without it, most of the group would have been dead....I just couldn't get my heals to recharge quickly enough without it. Might want two healers, or a healer and one controller with emp if we die a lot during these sessions. Last night was decent. Not too many deaths from lack of healing. Overextending, mistakes, and scrappers who need more hitpoints..well... :)

You were a healing machine. I will work on Albino Claw to get him a level or 2 above the group so I'm not as much of a burden when using him.

New patch out today. CoH forums are once again ablaze with hate. :)

Aucoin would rather not get leadership skills and instead get other supporting skills. I will look at getting leadership if no one else is considering it. Anyone considering getting leadership skills for the Tues/Thurs Group?

JeeberD, I will hopefully send you the couple-o-screenshots I have of the group tonight.

Sounds good. Send them on over and I'll get them posted ASAP... :)

I've been getting kinda frustrated with GI Jeeber the past couple of weeks since it seems like it takes him forever to pull his gun out and actually pull the trigger. So last night after everyone left I went ahead and made a fire/fire blaster. I soloed for a few hours (I think I played until about 4am  ) and got him up to level 6. I'll probably waste most of my day off today trying to get him up to lvl 9 or 10.

Gentlemen, I bring you....Homer J!!!

http://home.comcast.net/~jeeberd/Homer_J.jpg

I think that Homer got a bad batch of Duff or something cause he sure seems bigger than usual... ;)

I'm also not certain if I'll be able to make it tomorrow evening. My girlfriend is going to be coming over than night and we haven't really been able to spend much time together since she started her new job two weeks ago. So hopefully we'll be doing something that's MUCH more fun than CoH... :D

Trickshot is now a level 8.

I'm still curious if I was imagining things, but I decided to experiment with Trickshot and leveling.

I kept him level 2, and kept playing. I leveled up at least 3 times (but still staying at 2) and it seemed (seemed) to me that I was gathering xp faster. It was like the game didn't recognize that I had become a lvl 3, so I was getting high xp for being a low lvl character.

Needless to say, I got a little nervous, you play that long and you wonder, if I keep leveling and not going to the trainer, will the game remember how high I really am, or am I simply repeating lvl 3...etc. All that time wasted, so I went to a trainer...but I'm still curious about it.

I think I was imaginging it all, but it would be one hell of an overlooked exploit if it were true.

Trickshot has leap and hover now...I plan on concentrating on the gun skills after that...and then teleport (but not for a while).

Hover's great. That's what I'm going to get for Homer at lvl 8.

I enjoy using Hover with Aucoin over the group to heal. Also helps if I get shot at since Hover gives you a defensive bonus.

"Aucoin would rather not get leadership skills and instead get other supporting skills. I will look at getting leadership if no one else is considering it. Anyone considering getting leadership skills for the Tues/Thurs Group?"

Lug has Assault from the Leadership power pool and will be taking Maneuvers at lvl 12 and the other two shortly down the road.

FYI, Saint Stephen is a pure healer type that should be level 8 very soon. His powers are strictly group oriented such as Healing Aura, Heal Other and Resurrect. The plan is to take Recall Friend at lvl 8 and Teleport at lvl 14 in hopes of better serving the group whenever he may be needed. Hope this helps.

I got stealth for schism and will be getting grant insvisibilty later on stealth makes me run slower and has about a 45 second recharge(so i cant turn it on and off) though so expect me to be trailing the pack in missions but i hopefully i can scout ahead for trouble.

Also will we be starting a Super group again?

I vote yes for a super group on Victory.

As for tonight, I may or may not be able to join. I'm hoping I can push off my depature until tomorrow but it is unsure.

I have Albino Claw up to 9 now, but if I log in, I'll most likely use Black Fedora.

JeeberD, I have the screen shots with me and will be emailing them to you soon. Does your hotmail account have any size limits I need to worry about?

well my monitor and/or graphics card issue continues, so its a crapshoot if I'll be able to log in tonight or not...that is if I haven't finished packing my suitcase for my trip tomorrow. :) So don't hold your breath for Cometflash.

Hmmm...I'm not sure about the specifics, but Hotmail does get pissy about attachment sizes. Why don't you try to send it both to my Hotmail account and my Comcast account (JeeberD AT Comcast.net) just to be on the safe side...

I only managed to get Homer J up to level 8 yesterday before I pooped out, so I'll be a little behind everyone else if I manage to play tonight...

Edit: Oh, and YES to a Victory FOFC Supergroup... :)
