After issue 3 you can have a total of 5 power pools but only 4 can be the current ones. The fifth is the epic set and you can't pick one of the current ones for 5th.
Had fun again today, what little time I had to team with some of the SG members.
Should hit 36 this weekend with Gail-Force, once I get back to a normal sleep schedule. Level 38 I get another attack power that I can't wait to try out. Onward to 41.... :)

Aucoin make 34 yet?!?
What an exercise in respec frustration last night. I believe (since all I do is stare at the team windows) that the reason we failed last night was because there were 4+ bosses with each wave. WTF? I also think I could not be so close to the reactor. If I was in the sky above I might not take as much abuse and be able to respond to any abuse you all take.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Well, we need some more damage dealers in our group. We got to a point where we were overrun by the bosses; the group we had was not capable of dispatching them before the next wave came rolling in. It was just silly at the end, being surrounded by a dozen bosses that were my level and +2 levels on the rest of the party.
Since Streak is out for a couple of weeks, we will definitely need either Claw or Virus to finish this one off. Both would be nice.

Sorry I couldn't make it back on last night. For the most part I have my body on a good sleep schedule and that usually means being in bed by 11, though last night that was 9pm as I had to get up at 5:45 am.
Virus by himself would probably do the trick but with Virus and Claw it couldn't hurt and might make it go quicker even with the added mobs.

yes, it would scale up but the added ATs are damage dealers that have more def than blasters.

Testify!!!!
Seriously, I felt after last night like, what just happened...kinda like the demon that pops out in the Exorcist during the priest's dream sequence, or the final shot in Blair Witch...moreso like Blair just because I sat through the whole thing waiting for the payoff...
Sorry that Auc had to spend precious time healing and reviving me...I realized that when it was Freaks we would be in for a long haul...then Don jinxed it with "this is easy". http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif (Still love you Don, especially for the sacrifice of last night).
We'll see what happens...I'm 70k in debt and a few blocks from 35 (probably getting hasten)...so I can dish it out faster, but still can't take it.
The ONE thing that I keep seeing in the message board postings on the offical site that everyone is saying about the respec TF is about the level difference. Everyone that has had an easy time was +/- 1 level from each other.
Now I guess what I'm wondering is if the mission is set to your ACTUAL security level or your exemplar/sk level. Meaning, if Don exemplared down to 34, would the foes have been scaled lower then? The mission seems to be set to the highest teammate in the group.
I suppose any way to get everyone to a middle-ground level would be best. No point in sking up unless everyone on the team can be sked up. At level 34 and 36, Gail and Aucoin were taking a lot of hits near the core with those mortar shell blasts. We won't last long against level 38 Boss attacks. +2 and +4 higher than us.
Thoughts?
We can try exempler to see if that works. Exempler before we start the TF. Then start it and if the mobs are at or above said exempler char (DON) then we know it doesn't work.
all depends on I guess where we're weighted.
Top or bottom heavy. SK and exemplar where needed if possible.

Man, I've got a graphics card on the way that can play this. Unfortunately, I'm already broke (before the card) so that's not going to help me join up until they decide to do some sort of big membership promotion.
SI
Did respec last night on a 4 person pickup team. Being the same level or 1 difference is key. This mission was easy. Aucoin respec'd Fly and Hover out and I now have Combat Jumping and Super Jump. Sweet! Moved around some slots and I can heal you'all better now. Adreniline recharges quicker too, so more end for everyone!
I have serious doubts about playing tonight. GF is back and I will be spending time with her. Might be on late. I'd be willing to assist anyone with the respec.
If anyone wishes to play today, post here and I will stop playing Half life 2 to join you.

Hey guys!
Just an update here to let you know that I've finally gotten rid of some (all?) of the problems I was having with COH. New monitor, new video card, more memory. Haven't tried the game since I did all this yesterday, but wanted to let you know that playing with Cometflash might not be an exercise in frustration as much. :)
Of course still on a dialup modem and I'm still playing EQ2 more than COH, but don't be surprised if Comet makes a guest appearance one of these nights.

Spoke too soon it seems. Had a couple mapserver disconnects, but not bad there really. What was bad was a complete freeze-up of my system, not even CTRL-ALT-DEL worked. Never had that happen with COH before. Sigh. Meanwhile other than some lag issues mostly fixed by adding more memory, I haven't had any problems with EQII.
Had fun last night teaming up with Don, Aucoin, and Albino.
A lot of us are busy lately with various life issues and new games that have come out. I'll be on a little less with Gail & etc. as I have a baby on the way that we have to start getting prepared for (re-doing room for new arrival). I hope to still get Gail up to level 50 before The Matrix Online comes out. She dinged to 37 Friday night, and was 3 bubbles in as of Sunday night.
I'll be on this afternoon between 4:30 and 7:00. Most likley soloing in Founders if no one else is on. So look for me there if you want to team up. I might get daring and try to solo again in Eden. Did it once with some marginal success...full thanks to my new concealment pool and Phase Shift.

I'll try and make it on tonight. I want to make a hair under 41 before Streak comes back as I know he will probably be on non-stop after he gets back and I want to make sure I'm ready for the epic power pools when Issue 3 goes live. And this will allow me to copy AC to the test server and test out the power pools relatively quickly.

Close to 36 just no time, back to work on my birthday tomorrow...and it is going to SUCK.
For all those still playing you might have noticed a decline in total number of players on the server. New games are probably pulling people away from this game. Here is a chart showing a decline. I still wonder if this game can have staying power.

I'm not sure of the minimum # of users needed to keep something like this afloat, but this can actually be good for gameplay (and us) as they will be probably be forced to make the game fun instead of a level grinding chore. (and maybe they will go back to allowing create your own AT and let you mix and match the powersets like in the original design).
IMHO, you should be able to make level 14 in a matter of hours (especially if they continue to refuse to give travel powers SS, SJ, TP from the start). By this time, you can grab a travel power, and test a bunch of a power sets opening powers.
I say this because the grind at later levels is so intense as to be painful. But, if you could get a character up to 20 relatively quickly (hours not days/weeks) there would be great incentive to start over. As it is, starting over just reminds you that getting to a travel power is an excercise in pain. And then it is weeks into a character when you realize that you despise the build or AT.
Overall, I think the game won't last in its current design. I think they have put forth some great ideas/innovations in the MMO genre (fast fun combat, no loot, travel powers that are awesome) but they have backed themselves into a corner with the ATs. At this point, I'm only having fun because I team up with you all. I was on last night by myself for about 45 minutes and almost fell asleep in the process.
Here's looking forward to Matrix Online and hoping that it doesn't suck ass.
I have to agree on a lot of his points.
I enjoy playing this game, but for the length of time that it takes to get a character to EOL at level 50 (or beyond), I really dread going through all this grinding again with another character. I mean, some of us have been playing 6 months now, and haven't reached even 40 with our characters. And I'd say we play a decent amount of time. I really want to try out some other archtypes, but how can I if it takes 6 months to go through the full-life of a character.
You can create "alts", but the time you spend toying around with alts and other AT's, is time lost at getting your main xp/play time.
Now as for the Matrix Online (MxO), I'm such a fanatic when it comes to the content that even if the game is the same as CoH, I'll probably play that one WAY longer than CoH. I don't see MxO drawing in as many people though because of the content. The story is quite involved, and if you just went to the movies to check out the special effects, I'm guessing you won't be into the game much.
Bonegavel
11-30-2004, 11:51 AM
Agreed back at you.
Looks like the MxO is going to have an ongoing story that is one that if you miss episode #1 (whatever the hell that means - first month or quarter or whatever) you will not be able to participate in that part of the story line again.
As we all know, what devs would love create rarely makes it Live as it was conceived, but I too am a fan of the entire matrix series and it has nothing to do with the graphics in the movies.
Actually, IMHO there is so much in the trilogy that isn't explained or touched upon that I watch them in a row every few weeks (or when time permits) because of this. You can catch new things everytime you watch them. This is the stuff (not the main movie theme of saving zion and the human race) that I hope is the main focus. That, and creating new questions to ponder. That is what is fun to me: the question. Knowing the answer is only fun for a few moments after the revelation. It is the pursuit of the answer that is enjoyable.
wow...didn't know I was the only one that did that sort of thing. I just finished another book myself called "Taking the Red Pill:Science, Philosophy, and Religion in the Matrix". I think a lot of the side-content is what keeps me going with the story. Not only the Wachowski Bros. stuff like the comics, Animatrix, and other WB produced items, but the numerous books on philosophy related to the film. I've read many of them, and while it's a very tough read, I can't seem to get enough of it. Simulacra and Simulation was probably one of the toughest books I read realted to the film.
Hopefully the MxO missions will be a little more involved or indepth than "Go find 40 Nemesis" or "get rid of all Crey from the factory".

We'll have to get a Matrix thread going just for the movie. :D
I know I keep saying it, but CoH is almost in "cool the engines" mode for me. 1.25 million xp for the next level and I'm almost there (2 to 3 bubbles away) and that is just for level 39! To hit level 40, i'll need 1.25+ xp. And then 10 more of 1.25++, ++, ... and so on and so on.
Grind-a-licious.
I'm surprised that the focus at Cryptic isn't to reduce grind and make it fun. Instead, Statesman promises for the 2nd or more time that he is focusing on Tanker stuff. A bit skeptical on that and not even because I think they are being purposefully misleading... i just think they are so fooked when it comes to their balance issues that there is nothing he can do that won't force an infinite chain of "oh shits."
I've been reading that too about the tanker/scrapper balance discussions.
I suppose I can't knock them for at least recognizing that there's issues/concerns, and then working towards finding a solution. If you read about the new zone that they're putting in, they appear to have done something right. I haven't seen much negativity about it yet. Everyone seems to love the new zone. Roaming mobs and patroling Sky Raiders sounds quite interesting.
Sounds like GI and I are going to be getting together this sunday for a Matrix-a-thon. All 3 movies straight through. I might bring the Animatrix too just for funsies.
Gail-Force is about 3 bubbles away from 38, should get it before this weekend hopefully. I'll try to be on tonight. I might be jacked in (ha ha...shameless Matrix reference) a little after 9.

Don will be a happy man, and Albino Claw isn't.
Meanwhile, I've lingered to the point of being blown out of the water by you guys...still 3 bubbles to 36. Sheesh...can't even Hydra hunt.
Funny you mention Hydras. I just saw groups of hydras in the sewer network with Don and Albino last night for the first time since I was a level 8ish in Perez Park. :)
Issue 3 is coming. Looks like that new Striga Island zone is going to be a hit (for the lower levelers again). Might be a fun place to try with some of our alts. I'm still quite anxious to get into "The Hive" and the Ritki Crash site areas...haven't seen those yet.
Speaking of catching up...I've FINALLY reached a point where I'm about even level with some of our top level SG members. I've been trying to "catch up" ever since I put Translectron on the back burner at level 18 and rolled a Gravity Controller (Gail). Well Gail's finally hit 38 last night with the assistance of Albino Claw, Don, Inverness and General Combine.
Took the final available "normal" power (heh...until level 50). Thunderstorm creates a small cloud above the cast location that will randomly select a target close by and zap them with a lightning bolt dealing "heavy" damage (heavy for my character at least). Has some knockback to it, which I'm not too fond of, but still is another damage dealing power for my character. Fun fun fun. The game still has some shiny points to it for me. Dull in some areas, but I'm still finding things that keep me going....until MxO of course! :D
Wow, big news. When Issue 3 goes live (or shortly thereafter), we will issue a FREE "holiday" respec to ALL characters. Yep. All characters - regardless of Archeype.

the majority of the players on the boards are just horrible horrible people...I mean I saw it with smoke grenade and people were arguing to keep it in place EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW IT WAS BROKEN....
Can't say I didn't exploit that little bug but Hang is doin okay now (okay, maybe I die every other mission, but HEY, that's not the developer's fault, as much as it is my idea to try to have Hang be a scrapper".
Still, it does disgust me...meanwhile I'm going to be eyeing WOW, but the problem is, I need to keep things respectable budget wise...
On the other hand, I don't think I have much inclination to play the Matrix online game simple because I think combat is relegated to "cards"...but then I'm sure you guys are doing more in the interest of background info on that game than I am...

SI, I'm sure one of us will post if we run across any promotions. I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world for this game to be $10/month to compete against newer titles. But I imagine that it would be difficult to pump the price back up for City of Villains next year and they have already made some commitments to current players around this, from what I understand.
Going to play for awhile this evening. Looking to make a move towards Level 39 tonight, but will likely be out the duration of the weekend.

The **new** tanker/scrapper changes just went live on Test, but i can't get on to test server.
My credit card expired (even though i had received a new one in the mail weeks ago) and without knowledge my account expired last night at 11pm or so.
Found this out by trying to log into the forums there today and post.
No biggie, i rush to my account and enter in the new credit card info. I was able to log back into the forums and got onto the Live servers tonight... but no TEst. It must be working off a cached version of the player list. Grrr. I really really want to test out the changes since it effects me pretty intensely.

Good to have you back. None of us hit 40 yet, so still positioning for the power pools with our lead guys.
Yeah! SilverStreak is back!
Great teaming with you yesterday. We hit the abandoned sewer network for some Hydra fun. I actually learned something yesterday about my play-style with Gail. It's drastically changed from what it used to be. I had to actually resist jumping into the middle of mobs with the Singularities because SilverStreak would end up taking a great deal of damage. Pulling enemies was a much better tactic, although sometimes we'd get a few more than we wanted.
I actually did some soloing in Perigrine Island. I can only take on 41 mobs of about 8, and 42 mobs of 3-4 members with no more than 2 LT's. Surprising how much damage those little singularities can take. Just for funsies, I attempted to attack a level 43 Boss (alone)....a total of around 4000ish XP. Heh, took me a good 5-7 minutes to do it, but man that was sweet XP for one kill.
Teamed up with Don, Albino, and Aucoin for some mission fun too. Good fun last night.

We gobbled up a bunch of XP last night on PI, if only for a short time. Was good that we quit because I'm at the leading edge of a cold and the Alka Seltzer + that I took put me on the other side of groggy (the side where your desire for sleep is almost oppressive).
Hoping that we can grow the flock some. If that means letting in non-FOFCers, we will probably have to sit and have a Palaver because that kind of destroys the point of the group (emphasis on 'kind of').

Almost have Green Drake to 9, and possibly 10 tonight, which I think would be a nice improvement...
Fire/SS is definately not a true tank (though it might be because I'm lacking Healing Flames right now).
I envision Green Drake to be like a tougher scrapper...I like the class, but no AOEs, so he's more of a boss buster. I'm still waiting before I grab taunt just to see how this is all going to work.
More than likely, I'll be loading up on pool powers (it's sort of nice to grab the electives first, that way when you actually are high up, you are picking at things like hasten, and the like).
I will forego travel powers for a while, simply b/c so many teamates can TP.

This becomes even more true of controllers as you advance in levels, up until getting pets anyways - that is a long ways away from level 4. So I would definitely encourage you to either look us up or begin experimenting with random teams when you get some level of confidence built up about how to play your character. Speaking as a character who gets absolutely owned by mind control at later levels, I hope you have an equally big impact on our foes.
Looking forward to playing with you at some point. Also should be good to have Jeeber back in the fold.
Very true of controllers. They are quite challenging to play. Better suited for grouping early on, but soloing is not impossible. I'd say past level 34 is when you start to realize the power of a controller. Pets should be fully slotted at 34...then at 35 and 38 you get your final 2ndary powers.
I'm able to solo decent sized mobs of even or greater level with little threat of dying. At level 38, Gail-Force can take on a group of 6-8 level 41 minions, or a smaller group of 42's with maybe a LT or two. So +3 or +4 mobs are not too much trouble. Pretty good for an AT that's supposed to be a support character and deals very little damage compared to other AT's.
Some things that help me out aside from Singularities and my Thunderstorm power (and other controller goodies):
- 6 slotted stamina and health
- 6 slotted hasten
- Phase shift from the concealment power pool...this is my panic button. If the mobs are doing major damage to me, I can turn this on and be "untouchable" while my singularities and thunderstorm continue to attack.
BTW, Gail dinged to 39 last night. :) Epic power pools here I come.

Mentallmo....yellow and black costume.
I know I've got a ways to go to catch up with you guys. I'm hoping at his peak that he can help turn the tide by using mind control to disable/confuse/turn enemies while using force fields to protect other teammates (deflection or insulation shields). Based on what I'm seeing, I won't get a pet.

It was fun hooking up with you guys again last night. I'm over halfway to level 14 now, and I might try to get there my myself this afternoon. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to join up with you (I usually get off of work on Tues and Thurs right around when y'all are logging off), but I'll try to make myself more available...

If no one is on but us, I will be more than happy to help power level you. With my buffs and heals you should go through levels fast. Or I can bring on an alt to assist.

Also, City of Heroes includes a nice feature called sidekick that allows higher level guys to bring up a lower level character to effectively 2 levels lower than the high level guy.
New Hero: Level 5
Veteran Hero: Level 35
New Hero fights at Level 33 with Veteran Hero. Powers, health, all scale upwards, although you don't have the benefit of additional powers and slots that would accumulate with natural levels.
Aucoin is a very helpful character for keeping you alive while power-leveling, although he isn't going to be a ton of help bringing down the bad guys. You have to do that dirty work yourself when working with him.
Which is why SK'ing doesn't work very well when I am the highest level guy. We can try it again, but generally I've found you can earn more xp with me just following you around buffing and healing you. I'm open to anything though.

Sorry to say but I don't think Mind Controllers get pets. I got Silent Partner to level 14 and once I learned about pets I kind of put him in stasis. Still, Silent Partner is fun, but I've spent most of my time with Albino Claw trying to get him to 50.

And Mentallmo is a SG member...a GM of course. :)
Sweet night of SuperGroup gaming everyone. Sorry for the low missions I seem to still have. Glad Gail could be of some traveling help to Green Drake and Mentallmo.
Just was wondering about the Mind Control / no pets thing again. Pets are pretty powerful, I wonder what they did to balance Mind Control out so it has equal advantages, despite the fact that it doesn't have a pet. My only guess can be that Mind Control powers seem to do a lot of Psionic damage. Most of the defenses in this game protect against everything EXCEPT psionic damage. You'd figure the villans have the same restrictions on defense, so they're quite vulnerable to that form of damage.. Anyone else have any ideas? Just wondering why that's the only controller with no pets available (or even better, why does illusion get 2 pets and 1 pseudo pet.)

For Illusion, I know it is balanced by the fact that the damage is not real and will heal after a little while.
Yes, but the damage doesn't seem to heal back fast enough to make it a real factor if you're persistent with attacking. And, even though the damage isn't "real" from illusion, foes can still die from it.
But for Mind Control, I suppose they also have a lot of powers to make villans attack each other. Nice because it "thins" the crowd out and weakens them...but drawback is you don't get XP from any kills that happen from that.
I'll have to pull up the hero planner and have a look at it again. I guess I'm so interested now mainly because I can't remember why I picked Gravity for Gail instead of something else.

The dam really does heal back fast. I'll bring on Maiden Io to show you.
strange. I can't seem to think of any "drawbacks" to any gravity powers other than Dimension Shift. Propel is kinda crappy because of slow activation time and the fact that it hits only one foe (you'd think throwing a car would affect everyone in an area, like a cone effect or something, but alas devs aren't always the brightest I guess).
Mind control is a curious type. Telekenisis looks very interesting.

You should try all that stuff out on the test server, it makes for making less mistakes. Right now I think Green Drake is top heavy with damage sets, so I won't pick another offensive power for a while...
Hangfire is just going to chill for a bit, last night I just needed to bring him since everyone else was on.
I like Drake's concept, he's not an alpha build (a change for once). Yeah fire is popular, but not with the super strength build. I have to concentrate more on getting healing flames, and the fitness line, but I won't grab a true travel power till later in the game, I figure Gail can tp me (THANKS GAIL).

Gail rocks. Thanks you for the tps.
I'm playing Metallmo slow and strategic, trying to find the strongest baddy and either hold or confuse him to keep him out of play while others cleanup. This works well soloing since the toughest one will usually do good damage against his pals once he's under my control. That allows me to pick off another one and/or help my new "friend" out. My next primary power will be Mass Hypnosis which puts a group of baddies to sleep until they are attacked. Not a bad opening power for a group since they can then focus attention on one or two partiuclar baddies while the others get some beauty rest. Combined with Force Fields (which can protect allies, isolate baddies, or remove them from melee range) and I'm really beginning to like the build. I can fire off four attacks in a row (confuse one target, followed by domination, levitate, then force bolt). A 4 on 1 situation can become 2 on 2 (me and confused ally) with domination making one helpless. Then it's a matter of picking apart the one my ally isn't attacking.
I'll be on tonight and this weekend....hopefully I can get to a level where I can actually contribute.

I'm level 6.
GI - we'll need to coordinate. If I need to stick to holding/stopping 1 baddie, then I'm fine with that. If it's a boos/lt/minion battle, it might be worth it to sleep the lower guys and wail on the tougher guys with direct assault and then cut loose with AoE. Then again with FFs, I should be able to hold a tough opponent until the rest of the ruffians are cleaned up and then everyone can focus on the boss.

Unfortunatly I will not be the one to talk to about that...I heal and buff mostly. The blasters and spine scrappers will give you the most headaches with mobs that wake upon first attack. From what I've seen, unless you have a real disciplined team, those powers are worthless.

Hey gi, how's thunderous blast working for you? It works great for me!
I only tested it on very low level mobs. The true test will come into play when I can use it on mobs 4+ levels higher than me. You know, the ones we normally attack. :)
I love it though...Pretty Boy Aucoin with a big blast....scary.....
No power is truely useless. You just need to get a strategy for using it. Believe me, I went through this with a number of my powers. (remember my accidental Dimension Shifts?)
As far as the mass sleep thing. It's possible to use that on mobs that are too close to each other...mass sleep the 2nd one while the team attacks the first one. Or if you need to get past a mob (maybe your mission door is right next to a group you don't want to fight). You'll come up with strategic ways to use it.

Very situational uses that you document. I would think there would be another power that could prove to be more useful under more circumstances. Just like you got rid of Dimension Shift. I toyed with sleeping type powers that stop working upon first attack, they just don't cut it when in a 4+ player team. 3 players and under, I could see it being a chooseable power.
Just like you got rid of Dimension Shift.
I got rid of dimension shift to make room for some powers that I needed more. Stamina and Health, which I should've never gotten rid of on the first respec. Doesn't mean I won't take it again (unless these Epic power pools are sa-weet).
I was going to keep it, but had no room to fit it after I planned out my respec powers.
But again, it's up to you to decide. Use the test server (instructions are on the offical boards) to test out powers to see if you'll like them, and if you end up not liking them after you've already chosen them....then you have 3 opportunities to change your character (levels 20,30 and 40).
I got rid of dimension shift to make room for some powers that I needed more.
Which was my point. There are other powers out there that can be needed more. And you are correct, this is all just one person's opinion. To each there own.

Another possible strategy for coordinating with sleep is to have a tanker provoke a bunch on him, then drop the sleep on the guys who hang back instead of trying to maul the meatshield. Rest of group goes after the aggressive ones.

I see my role as someone who assists the rest of the team. Whatever I can do to make our lives easier works for me. I've got 2 levels before gaining a new power so it's not something we need to decide now. Taking big pieces off the board would seem like the best use of my powers, but mass sleep may not be a bad secondary function.
Great thing about this game is that at level 24 you can redo all your powers if you do not like them. And you can do this 2 more times after that. So pick whatever you want and try em out. You can always drop'em later.

Total Domination (makes groups helpless, don't think attacks matter or snap them out) and Mass Confusion ( turns groups against itself) look like two nice powers down the line for mob thinning without worrying about sleep.

Yeah, I gotta brag. Teammates were shocked...
Gail - level 39 sk'ed to a level 43 teammate (what's that make me, 41 or 42?)
Foe - level 43 Archvillan, claws, mean as hell!
Soloed with 3 sings out, 2 thunderstorms, freezing rain for defense debuffing, and snow to slow. Oh yeah, and phase shift.
AV tried to fight, tried to run, but she couldn't last.....and eventually went down.
Took some time, but quite doable. Just for the record, 4 of us on a team, we all tried to gang up on this AV 2 times before my attempt. Got wiped out almost immediately. Lots of debt. Last resort was to get more teammates, or try this singularity attempt to see if it works. GI/Aucoin, was my witness.

I let our little team die at least twice before. Wasn't like I gave them any different treament than you. lol. JK.
Honestly, was probably doable because it was a single target and the sings were holding aggro pretty good. There was a huge mob along with the AV, but we got rid of them all and had her left over. If it was more than just the AV, I wouldn't have been able to do it. It's more manageable when the sings can all concentrate on one, and spam holds left and right. Quite hard to hold an AV. don't know how many it takes, but bosses take 2 holds to lock down. AV, 4 maybe?
AV's name was Bobcat? maybe? Can't remember. Petite little cat/claw chicky. She was quite pissed off at us.
AV was Bobcat. Do not forget that those Sings were buffed by me :) Fortitude and Regen and I did throw the occasional heal/adren on Gail. :)

True, aucoin was assiting with buffs when possible. I was phase shifted most of the time, so he had a hard time buffing me, but the sings could get some lovin. My SK (Shockwave?) was also attempting to attack long range I think (he was a blaster), but I think I saw his health bar go down a few times, and he turned on phase shift to save himself. It was a team effort really, but we had to adjust our strategy from the 2 failures before. The sing attack was sort of a joke attack (we didn't think it would work), but when it started to work we couldn't believe it.

Sounds interesting. Had a blast this night. Made 39. Since our Super Group is on the downside. Averros and I were thinking of combineing our two SG's into one. We could have a player pool of around 20 that way and have quality teams. We seem to group with him and his SG often anyway. Just an idea I am putting out there. It would give us some more resources. Thoughts? Averros's SG already thinks it is a great idea.

They seem to be a nice bunch of guys. They banter back and forth like we do. C.J. has played with them and I believe Hangfire or alt has played with earlier than last night. Last night Silver Streak and Albino Claw played with two to three of them. Penelope was a friend of mine. Not in either SG.
They only problem Averros's SG had was what would we call the new SG (NAME) and what would the colors be. Suggestions? We are using Blue and White colors now. The name doesn't really concern me all that much.

Sorry I got us killed last night at the hands of the clockwork king. I usually have the sound down and there are so many bright flashing lights on my screen that it overpowers the chat box. Didn't see it was the actual AV until I was standing directly in front of him and by then he hit me with 1 shot that was about 100 HP over my max.
But, on the happy news side I hit 40. I should be able to visit the crash site now - though I hear it is a ghost town in there.
At this point i don't care if we let others in the super group, merge, or whatever. Was nice having a full team last night. Makes the missions actually suspenseful and full of death (been a long time since that's been the case). In fact, I don't care if we offer positions to anyone we team with that seems ok.
Only problem is the 75 character limit. With 20 active members and 6 alts each that isn't going to work. Going to have to be very picky about included alts.
The name doesn't matter either. We can call ourselves the 'Perforated Ass Chunk Society' for all I care.

Could do that. We can also have a level min for this new group. Say Level 18 and up. 18 and down in the FOFC Group. Kinda like graduating. :) More than likely there would only be a handful of GM's like people. With most of the population at the Coach level. At least 2 GM's (1 from each SG). Coaches can invite too. Really not that big of deal who is and who is not a GM. I'll talk to Averrnos tonight when I pop on about this and start the planning. Name doesn't seem important so I might just let them pick it.
Also: Your low level alts in the other SG could also have all the main in a Friend list. I really do not think we will run into SG member limit issues.
What's the current name of the other SG that we're proposing merging with? Just curious.

Well...make the FOFC group our alt group, and the merge group for our stars, though Hangfire could hardly qualify as a star. Should Green Drake ever make it to such esteemed heights, then I could put Hang on the FOFC group and Green on the merge group, and vice versa...

HA! Were they gravity controllers? One thing that makes gravity controller pets different from all other controllers is that gravity has the only pet that attacks with control powers. All other pets attack with damage only attacks. Gravity pets rapid fire 3 different single attacks:
- Lift : lifts foe up and smashes them back down for damage. Knockdown effect.
- Crush : immobilizes a foe and does some DoT
- Gravity Distortion : completly holds a foe, unable to attack. Bosses take 2 holds to lock down.

Not sure if they were gravity controllers. All I know is that my thunderous and other attacks didn't take down his endurance AT ALL. He kept healing himself, and that made it difficult. I think he was encased in ice at some points, but they weren't often.

Key to Gail's success is that she can start toggles, have her pets, and then go phase shift when the AV aggro's to her. She is protected, yet her pets and toggles still work. Great strategy. Slow, but works.

I heard a lot of positive remarks on the "new" supergroup chat channel from other non-former FOFC members. They all sound very excited to have some more players to team with. So, GI, give us a rundown on what was talked about on top of that building in Talos between you guys. How was the name/colors decided? How is the GM title going work in this new group? And can Gail run around with nothing but a bikini on carrying a box of Krispy Kreme's?

The Street Sweepers (Their old SG) just wanted to chat about what we did a couple days ago. They picked the name. Paragon Sweeper Corps I believe. Taking their name and a little of ours. Colors was me combineing one of theirs (Purple/Gold) and one of ours (Blue/White) to get Gold/White for the new colors. Their will be 4 GMs. Two per old SG side. The rest will the Sweepers, which is just the middle ranking. They usually have SG night on Tuesdays, which is very nice. Only the GM's can change the MOTD. After talking to them all I quit our SG, formed the new one, and invited the GM from the Street Sweepers. He invited his people, I invited all two of ours that were online. :)
So anyone not named Gail-Force or Penelope, send a tell to any of us for invites. I'll be on tonight for awhile.
Oh, and the symbol I choose for the new SG is cool in that you can have a lot of color combos.

Although I share your enjoyment of getting a good challenge for the game I don't like watching us get ritualistically slaughtered. To be honest, the fear and actuality of death in the game go hand-in-hand with excitement for me. I know 'to each his own' but the large groups have brought back the chaos that I have missed.
I have played the last 5-7 levels too "safe" in hindsight. Sure I have severely reduced my death rate, but at the cost of entertainment. Again, I know that everyone has their own idea of fun and I wasn't pointing fingers. :D

After cutting it down to 215k in debt, I am with the whole "let's play it safe" side. Last night was amazingly fun and death free (surprising since it was mostly a pickup group). I did not notice any tension the other night, but maybe that was because I was either dying or facing the floor. :)
I'm on the fence with that topic. I like the exciting game play and the tense battle moments. But at the same time I don't like hoards of debt. I guess my problem the other night is I just gotta know when to make the decision to save myself and not worry about everyone else. I had sked Mentallmo and didn't want to run off, he'd loose his SK then. Plus I wasn't using Phase Shift nearly enough because I felt I should try to contribute to the battle as much as I could. But, wasn't that many deaths...still nothing's compared to our Respec attempts, at least for me.

lol....I was watching your health meter and trying to give Streak special O2 treatment (hey, gotta watch out for the fellow SGers. Screw the pickup guys.) Threw you an O2 boost if it looked like you were getting whacked pretty good. Yeah, the pickup group we were on was pretty much a non-stop machine.
The good thing about the combining of the two SG's is that they have an Empathy Def like me around my level. Ghost something... Should help out with the dying part.

I like the tiered SG idea. That would keep me from holding others back. Kinda like the X-Men and the New Mutants. Might also reduce my carpet kissing some too. Since I'm new, it will let me play in the big group with Mentallmo (once he gets to that level) while bringing other characters along in the lower group. Created a fire/eng blaster named Johnny Nitro last night and he's almost to level 5.

Had a lot of fun with the new SG tonight. We ended up having more than 8 on at one point and had to split into two groups. Got my first look at the Portal missions, which ended up being fun. Nice XP to be had doing Level 40 missions. Picked up about 15% of the next level after dinging to 39 late on Tuesday. And Gail even helped set up my thoughts on carnies (see sig) at the end of the evening.

Don (hoopsguy) is the other GM. No level requirement for this SG. I would say that you should restrict yourself to only characters you play often. No need to saddle this SG with characters you hardly ever play. But, truely I do not care. As long as you are having fun. Tis really the only goal.

Had a great time over the weekend. Almost to 41. Need to do a respec sometime this week if we can arrange it. Once I get to 41, I'll put Aucoin on hold until Ep 3 comes out and dust of Maiden Io or a new Character. Maybe a tank?

Lots of new opposition now, with Knives, Carnies, and Malta all starting to make regular appearances. I love seeing this as it helps keep the game interesting. Only so many times I want to abuse 5th Column ...
Has anyone checked out the Rikti Crash site yet? I've heard it is pretty lethal.
When we get to 41, we can make a Crash Site Raid. I'll be on tonight around 7ish pm EST. If you are on Streak, we can do debt reduction Missions. Just remember: Blasters have range for a reason...no melee for you. Leave that for the Tank Don and mini-Tanks: PV and Claw. :)

Couple of suggestions...
First off, I enjoy Hang and Green Drake. I have decided to send Q'wiksilver to the comic heaven, and Mr. Scorch may be going there as well...
I think we all know our primary toons now, but I think we should definitely figure out who has alts and wants to use them...
I think we should have a meeting place (like Atlas Park for alts, and say Talos for our primaries)...this way when everyone loads up, they can switch teams easily...so when you are done for the night...if we're playing alts...you scamper back to Ms. Liberty...then if you have multliple alts and you want to switch (say we have 3 tankers...maybe I'll bring my blaster on...etc) you aren't far away from the team in some part of the city that is miles and miles away...
I've been playing another alt lately, I'm keeping him a secret for now...I figure I burden you guys enough with the likes of Hang and GD.

That way Albino, Penelope, SS, Aucoin, etc can adventure w/o having to worry about me making it through an area alive on the way to the mission map. Just a thought. I'm having fun with Nook M (rad/rad defender) and I think he'll be a good team support guy once he gets a little further along.

It's sounds like a good chunk of you are moving to MxO?
From playing it (beta) what is the major difference between CoH and MxO?
What is combat like?
Is there potential to make really powerful characters out of the box, or very weak characters?
Is there the potential to have so many options that you can potentially gimp your character?
What is the leveling process?
What is the debt process?
What is money? Is there loot?
What is the process for teaming, is there a benefit?
Is the game more PvE or PvP?
What is the situation concerning PvP, everyone fair game, certain areas, or volunteer?
When you die, do you leave special equipment, or when you are reborn do you start from scratch?

I've found that either Jump from the fitness line does the job or Gail's tp'ing. :)
Maiden Io and Translectron wish to do the respec. So maybe tomorrow we can do that. Anyone else 24 to 25 welcomed.
Is there any way to trade influence among my characters? Streak was kind enough to heap a ton of influence on Mental and I'd like to move it to some of my other guys.
I heard this guy Aucoin gives it out. :) No way to do it without a friend. Around 40+ Influence isn't an issue, so any of us can dump it on your alt.

I should be on tonight. Might be around 9 or so. I'll bring either Nook or one of my new guys.
Here's hoping the new year will bring Issue 3 updates to our gaming experience!
Gail-Force is on "hold" for now at level 41...waiting for issue 3 to drop so I can pick a Epic Pool power (otherwise, we may see the return of Propel - flying cars and forklifts again!)
Translectron is making a comeback. Gone are the days of jumping off the pier in Independance Port, and being offered a "hand" by Don (only to find out he was just clapping for me). Trans is now level 24.9, got his respec on (grrr...5 hours of 2 attempts at TV Trial) and is now part blaster part defender.....3 attacks (2 more slated) and health/stamina/concealment pool powers. Still no travel power for Trans, he has his own builtin travel powers. Siphon Speed, and Inertial Reduction. Gather for jump buff!
Level 26 will be a sweet spot for Translectron. Get's a power called Transference. Transference drains an enemy of some endurance, and transfers it to all surrounding teammates near the targeted enemy. So, if there's no empathy defender on the team to give out blue candy....Translectron will steal from the rich to give to the poor. The catch is that you have to be near the targeted enemy....might be tough for blasters/controllers/defenders to get some lovin', but scrappers/tankers should smile.

Got Bubbles to within a bubble of level 26. She's getting to be my favorite now, with Streak taking a backseat. I noticed that as a blaster, I always had extra influence (thus the giving it out), and I always wondered why everyone else needed some.
Well, now I know. Bubbles never has extra influence. I attribute this to not dying. When you die, you have the opportunity to gain extra influence when you're the same level as others in the SG.
Just an observation.
Sounds good that Trans is coming back...although I'll miss Gail's outfits!

Seems like the alts are rising.

Sweet Bubbles will have to fill that void then.

I will be more than happy to get you some influence, from the days when you took care of hang...I owe you.
I think I'm going to clean out hang's coffers, to boost Haunt and Drake...
Hauntfox is fun to play, I just need him to get stamina, nothing like hitting +4's with powers to never hit me, to weaken their attacks by 40% while boosting your own by 40%, and another power which weakens defense and slows them down...and that's when I reach for my revolver, er, dark energy snipe and just knock them into nothingness...
What sort of build is Hauntfox?
Almost sounds like similar powers to Kinetcs.

lol...what are ya talking about... I was first! Trans is old as dirt. He was my first hero I created on Victory after we switched over from Virtue about 6 months ago.
Maiden Io can vouch for me though, Trans is much more of a blaster now and can dish out decent damage once a few "Siphon Power"s are stacked.

I wonder how successful an army of defenders would be...?
I suppose it would depend on the types of defenders. I'd think a good mix of defenders could do quite well. Sweet Bubbles and Translectron did a mission the other day, and while a bit slower we were able to do it.
Trans hit level 26 last night....Transference is his new power. Ok, now..who wants end?
Sorry about last night, had some connection issues. Aucoin is now 43, and Io is almost 25.

I'm about halfway to level 28. After being on a team of defenders the other day, I would say that they are pretty good. See this thread:

Scroll down to the all defenders team. :)

Should be back on this week. Took a holiday hiatus and now that all the family/holiday stuff is over, life should return to somewhat normal.
MxO is looking less and less fun to me :( hopefully the borrowed time they have will fix it.

Glad Aucoin was around tonight to power-debt me :)
Took on two major endeavors on the afternoon/evening. First one was the Eden trial, involving numerous Krakens and the Hydra. Hydra, of course, has psionic powers, which are death (in this case 5-6 times) for Invulnerability builds. That was with Unstoppable on with all other defenses active. Got 1-2 shotted regularly. Kind of humbling ... Next up was a Level 49 ArchVillain with our party of one 48, one 45, a 43, 41, 40, and 37 alts. Of course, this is another foe with psionics. Another six deaths and debt was up over 200k for the first time ever. Heck, before tonight I had never hit 100k! We rolled through some higher (46-48) Nemesis to close out the night and erase about 150k of debt before calling it a night.
All in all, good to be back in the saddle for a night and to see Claw after his two-week hiatus. I'm about 60% of the way done with level 40 so I'm hoping to be ready to take advantage of the power pools right away when Issue 3 is finally released.
I will be on tonight and be able to help power-debt you.

LOL! Sorry about last night...had a little too much beer while playing (I'm a lightweight, so sue me). I will be on tonight and will be able to help bubble you.
Glad I read about all that.
I was on the fence on which Ancillary Pool to take when Issue 3 hits....I believe I've decided on Psionic Mastery for Gail....lol.

If I had my choice between a range attack and a power pool that would leave me less vulnerable to psionics it would be the latter in a heart beat. I'll just jump after running foes and bludgeon them, same as I have done for the last 40 levels. Or leave something for the blasters to do at the end of a battle :p

Thanks for the welcome back. The break was good. Spent oodles of time with the family both en mi casa and the one's from out of state. I don't think I can play another game of Balderdash for at least another 6 months.
Only touched MxO a couple of times and I must say that CoH has upped my expectations of MMOs. They have a lot of work to do on that before I'll give up CoH.

Nook hit 12 and I picked hover. Saw the usefulness of his Rad debuffs last night when I teamed with a Tanker and was able to take out large groups without taking much damage. Once I get it slotted up, the accuracy debuff will be a nice power. A couple of times solo, I put it out and then wandered into the middle of the group to keep everyone close. The only thing that slowed me down was running out of end while blasting.

Remember that MxO is still in beta. If 50% of what they planned to be in the game is in there, I'd be surprised. Plus I would think major changes are coming since the three of us (you, CJ, and myself) feel that Mxo is lacking something. Others must feel the same. Hence the push back date of release.
my 2 cents. :)

I presume Bubbles is inspired by the Powerpuff Girls? Does she have a wacky costume to go along with that motif? Heck, there needs to just be a CoH gallery of characters for those of us living vicariously through you guys :)
SI
Sweet Bubbles = Force Field Defender.
Typically known in the game as a "bubbler" (much like an Empathy Defender is known as a "healer")
I believe we all were creating alternate characters at one time for fun, and we all ended up making female characters, some with wacky names.
My wacky female character was a Scrapper named Foxxy-Coco.
