Athletic Prestige is not what you think it is.
It is the measure of how skilled the current players on your roster are. The recruit in question wants to play with studs, and thusly the more good players you have on your team, the more appealing your school is to him.
Traditional school prestige is something I wanna add down the road.

00:10 SF Burt Ruff sets up the offense, guarded by SF Philip Evans of Stone Mountain Tech.
00:10 SF Burt Ruff shoots and scores. Two for Palm Springs and the foul! (62 - 67)
00:10 Burt Ruff missed the free throw.
00:10 SG Peter Baker of Stone Mountain Tech grabs the rebound.
And with that nail in the coffin, we hold out to win 67-64 in a thriller.

I don't see a way to see a box score or stats, yet. However, I know my C had a huge day. If I can find some players to surround him with besides our senior SF, we'll be a good team. It was closer than expected, but we start off with a nice win, 74-70.

Anyway, what a game by my Aggies! Battling Icy's Swordmasters, we hit the tieing jumper at the buzzer to send it to overtime. We pulled away and held on at the end to win 81-79. My backcourt had 45 points, with my senior SG hitting the game tieing J to send us to overtime.

Also, to field a question before it arises re: recruiting.
If you're heavily recruting someone and get the 'not very interested', yeah, you prolly shouldn't bother.
Moderate and especially light recruiting, you still may have a shot at 'em if you bump up your efforts. It's much harder to tell on the lesser recruiting, though. Those basically exist to pump some points into your second tier of recruits while you weed out your top boys.

I looked at the league leaders quickly, and noticed that playres have 6 and 7 fouls... isn't the limit 5? Also noticed that a bunch of computer teams seem to play their starting lineups for 45 minutes? So they played them the entire game, and overtime?

The AI doesn't sub. It sucks, I hate it, but I haven't figured out a smart way to set a sub routine for the AI.
There's no fouling out yet, as I noted on the other board.
Endurance most definately plays a role. I'm considering making it an even bigger role. The way fatigue works is pretty straightforward. Your player's attributes naturally decline over the course of the game (while they are in). Having a high endurance slows this dows. Endurance also helps with a few other things during the game. Those teams who aren't subbing are basically fielding utter trash by the later stages of the game. A team rotating in fresh players will have a major advantage every time.

Is there anything in the log to give us an indication of how fatigued a player is? Right now we have an arbitrary "rating" for endurance without any real way to gauge it. Most of the other numbers we can read from stats, but I don't know that there's a good way to tell how fatigued a player is and be able to gauge endurance against that as well as when to sub those players out.

I considered last night putting in something in the PBP to mark endurance, and I still am, actually. What I'm worried about is having a shit-ton of spam in the PBP log yapping about endurance. So it's gonna require some thought.

Okay, I added a little blurb describing how tired someone is when they are subbed out. You'll see this in Wednesday's games.

First can you change the league games representation to (C)? Or are you using that for championship games?

I'd like that too. To separate the computer's non-subbing stats with ours.
Also, can you put the info we get from recruiting on the player pages so that we don't have to go back to the inbox for every recruit?
On the season schedule, can you put the teams records beside the team?
This recruit was ecstatic about our school from the moment we spoke. He is very interested, and we have a very good chance for him to accept our scholarship offer.

Hmmm.... Dexter is Highly Positive for me and Jang down at Somewhat Interested. Do certain recruits have higher baseline interests in teams than others? And do we ever find out their secondary preferences as the recruiting weeks go by?
No and No.
That said, it's easier to hit certain interests than others. And thusly easier to heavily miss certain interestes.

It wasn't in the PBP last time.
I have to check my endurance levels -- haven't watched the PBP yet. However, I'm very happy with this win. HRU's one-dimensional offense could not handle the Run-and-Shoot of our hometown Stars!

Hrmm..Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I ran Low Post the first game and my guards didn't shoot much. Ran Perimeter this game and my big men didn't shoot much. Might try Screen sometime soon to see if that's a good mix.

Same problem here. I'm running the low post since my PF and C are my best players, but I also have a good SF. My PF and C are taking 80% or more of the shots between them and my guards are hardly shooting. Oh yeah, we lost to S.U.C.K :(

This would be a total shift in what you're doing, but..
Could there be maybe a setting where you set your positions in order of preference for the offense to go through or something?

You know...that might actually work better than you'd think. That's quite close to how the engine translates who gets the ball in the first place.

The run and shoot appears to give looks to everyone but the center...
Anthony
10-25-2007, 08:54 AM
or maybe you can make it so that if you have Low Post, your C/PF are the ones who get the ball first. if nothing is there your PG or whomever else then will look for their shot. vice versa for Perimeter, where your guards will look to shoot first, if nothing's there or if they're double teamed they dump it into the post.
Coffee Warlord
10-25-2007, 08:55 AM
The problem really lies in just how much focus the "target" players are given in each offense. As it stands, it's just really, really likely that the key players will get the ball, that the other guys aren't getting enough looks. The math is really preventing things.
rjolley

At least, it's how it works in real life.
Coffee Warlord
10-25-2007, 09:14 AM
It's supposed to work like that. Obviously not as well as I'd like.
So, I can go about tweaking this 1 of 2 ways, and I'd like to gauge opinions.
1) Simply mess with the percentages in the code. I'm figuring with some tweaks to the numbers, this issue could be improved.
2) Add a new item to the lineups page that allows you to specify the percentage you want to focus on each position in the lineup. The offensive schemes would still be there, but they'd be less of an influence on who the offenses are passing the ball to and more of an influence on who should be taking shots.
rjolley
10-25-2007, 09:25 AM
Does option 2 mean that if I run Low Post with the percentages leaning towards the guards, the bigs will shoot the most, but the guards will shoot more than once or twice?
Sweet, my SG can go all Kobe on everyone.
I say try the code first, but it doesn't matter to me.

option 2 is simple. we're not talking FOF2K7 screens here. if you could swing that it'd be awesome. but if you do option 2 does that mean if i set my SG to get the most percentage, then my crappy bench SG will also take as many shots? cuz if so, then maybe option 1 is best.

Coffee Warlord
10-25-2007, 11:30 AM
Okay, I made several changes to the percentages of both the Low Post and the Perimeter offenses. Spot checking some of the others, they appear to be working pretty closely to what I had intended (I reserve the right to pretend I never said that line).
In simplest terms, the players in the post on the low post offense are more apt to kick the ball back out for an open shot, and the guards in a perimeter offense are more likely to drop one inside if they don't have a shot.
A few sims generated good numbers for both offenses, and got the non-focus players much more involved.
wade moore
10-25-2007, 11:51 AM
I think this is a good step. My suggestion may potentially open up for too much skewing or complications.. idano.. Either way, I think if you can tweak the existing ones that may be fine.
Ok, this might not be very fun coding, but how about an actual play-by-play, where you click "next play" and it gives you a line by line read out. Or a staggered play-by-play, so every 3 seconds it shows another line of the game.

This recruit seemed very interested in playing for us. We believe continued efforts at recruiting this player will definately pay off.

There needs to be a note saying that he commited elsewhere.

Heck of a game tonight between #25 UU and NU at Matthews. The Huskies took full advantage of the home court to run their record to 5 - 1, tied with Dean Houston at the top of the Trout Ten.

Home court advantage and my starting SG going 2-for-19 from the field. Looking forward to the rematch :)
Both of us managed to guess what kind of offence the other team would try to run, so there really weren't many easy points out there.

I don't think there was a lot of guesswork involved. It's pretty obvious where the strengths of both teams lie. :)

Helluva game man. Been needing a good performance the last few games and even though it came down to a miss on each side, fantastic finish

Nope, it will manually refresh itself every 10 or so seconds.

It's so not doing that for me..
Kind of frustrating.
Edit: it has refreshed on it's own once in 4 minutes.. so I did it myself one time in there.

Wierd. I underestimated the time between refreshes. I'm watching now and it is about 20-30 seconds between refreshes, but it is definitely moving for me on its own.
