The stats from this one are unbelievable. Neither team threw for 100 yards. Combined they didn't reach 150.

Total yards for the game was 339. They combined for 82 rushes for 193 yards. They were a combined 10-29 on 3rd downs. There was 101 yards in penalties in this game.

The over/under was 29.5 to 31 depending on where you looked and they didn't come close to it.

The O/U dropped to 19.5 at half time and everyone was like, "Still take the under!"

Was looking pretty bleak for Coastal Carolina today-started their #3 QB, a freshman-he wasn't very impressive in the first half, with just 80 yards passing and then a 3rd Quarter INT lead to an Old Dominion touchdown, and looked like the game was out of reach at 21-6, but the freshman responded in the next series, running 75 yards for a TD.

That sparked the team and they were tied until a late ODU FG. But with less than 2 minutes left, the freshman drove 75 yards and threw a game winning TD with 23 seconds left. Crazy finish. Freshman had 170 yards rushing for the game and a 180 yards passing.

I can't address the mortgage part but the price of the house seems on par with what I see elsewhere.

I mean, the Ann Arbor market has to be a little more upscale than my exurban (still virtually rural) hometown in north Georgia ... but I found a smaller house there that looked to be similar/worse condition going for $241/sq ft (twitter had the final sale stuff on Stallions place which went for $171/sq ft)

Not exactly sure where this goes, but I see that the University of Arizona miscalculated its cash on hand and just recently realized they were off by $240 MILLION and only have COH for about 97 days. There is a LOT of talk about draconian cuts required and many people looking at the athletic department. No way FB is directly affected, but they are talking cutting sports programs as part of the fix.

As I understand it, only required minimum distributions are actually used from endowments. They are mostly used as a fundraising tool and are not liquid.

JPhillips

Not all of an endowment is accessible. Restricted funds have to be spent on things they were marked for. Unrestricted funds can go anywhere, but most endowments have the bulk of their money in restricted funds.

This is pretty much where I’m at. Assuming that the facts come out that Connor Stalions was doing this at the coaches’ request and they were using this to get an advantage during games, they appear to have broken the rules in a very stupid way, and deserve to be punished.

This whole thing remains the stupidest sports scandal ever.

The main culprit’s name is Connor Stalions. Stupid.
The whole scheme he cooked up and trail he left behind. Stupid.
Going on a covert op on the CMU sidelines. Stupid.
The Big 10 coaches and ADs whining on that call. Stupid.
Michigan’s letter to the Big 10 in response. Stupid.
The timing and substance of the Big 10’s punishment. Stupid.

It’s all a bad look for Michigan, Harbaugh and the Big 10.

I have a couple of friends who are much bigger UofM fans than I am and have some deeper ties to the university. Talking with them on this and hearing their takes is what I imagine it feels like to watch Fox News all of the time. They are living in a world with an alternate set of facts where this whole thing was cooked up by Ryan Day and his PI brother and part of a long running personal griefs with Michigan. It’s bizarre.

GrantDawg
11-11-2023, 07:17 AM
Agreed, HB. The whole thing is full of breathless hyperbole from both sides. The driving need to punish Harbaugh does come off as an vendetta-like obsession. But then the ridiculous ways Michigan fans have tried to justify a clear breach of rules is very Trumpian.

Totally. Last night on a WhatsApp chat group I’m in, guys were declaring “war” on the Big 10. Saying that the Big 10 should be prepared to “go to the mattresses.” Declaring that Michigan should leave the Big 10 after this.

And on all of this on the eve of the start of Michigan’s 2-5 game regular season.

Not fired yet (or officially). But yeah, doesn't look good for him.

FWIW, I'd give him one more year. Last year, QB and RB got hurt. This year, both OC and DC are new. IMO the DC was no big loss but it's clear the OC was.

With all of these leagues consolidating and trimming out the programs with less resources, I feel like some of these mid- to lower level P2 programs are in an impossible place. You have to take the opportunity to be in one of these conferences if it presents itself, but some of these programs that are expecting to compete nationally are going to end up at the bottom just by virtue of having a loser for every winner. It will be interesting to see how patient USC/Washington/Oregon and Oklahoma/Texas will be with the transition.

And, if they are successful, who are they pushing down?

The SEC losers in a OU and Texas win scenario feel obvious to me, as unhappy as I am to say it: Tennessee and Ole Miss. Can Heupel figure out how to win (or even show up) on the road? Uncertain. The talent gap that Ole Miss suffers from doesn't feel sustainable success is possible. And Alabama, whenever Saban steps down, feels like an obvious decline candidate.

In the Big 10, I'd say Wisconsin and Iowa feel like the most likely to experience a decline in fortunes in a newcomers-are-successful scenario, with Penn State the other. As you noted, if the newcomers win then somebody has to be losing, and those are the ones who have at least managed to win some games up to that point.

Saw this list on Reddit. A selection of the biggest name coaching changes in 2017-18. This is like one of those draft classes you look back on as a complete disaster.

Chip Kelly is the "success" story, at least in terms of length of tenure (although that's rumored to be short-lived). Kelly wasn't a total disaster but he certainly never hit any real high marks (one 9 win season is his best).

Not on this list, I guess Josh Heupel (hired at UCF) was the next best of the bunch, with maybe Mario Cristobal (Oregon) second? Slim pickins.

Jimbo Fisher

Dan Mullen

Scott Frost

Jeremy Pruitt

Chad Morris

Willie Taggart

Herm Edwards

Chip Kelly

I understand the targeting when you lower your head and hit the other guy while making a tackle. You should take more care to prevent it (hence the penalty), but I also get the sense that most of those guys aren't trying to go helmet to helmet.

They are saying the linebackers coach was fired for destroying evidence during an NCAA investigation. He destroyed a computer that had evidence of the scouting scheme. They have also found the person that was funding the scheme was a long time Michigan booster. The NCAA gave Michigan the evidence yesterday, which is what prompted the dropping of the TRO.

They have added that the linebacker coach also told players what to say about Stallions job to the NCAA investigators. That is what caused Michigan to immediately terminate him. They are still saying he didn't know about the scouting, but he was close friends with Stallions. He might have just been try to cover for his buddy.

There was a vocal minority that always bad-mouthed Bobo. The fact was his offenses were regularly top of the SEC. The biggest thing holding them back was Richt's marriage to "Old Man Football." Bobo definitely not calling Old Man Football now.

I find it quite incredible that ANYONE thinks Tennessee -- or rather, Josh "Better Be Glad He Beat Bama Last Year" Heupel -- is actually serious about football when they keep sending Joe F'n Milton out at quarterback. As football players go, he ain't worth a damn, ain't never been worth a damn, and won't ever be worth a damn.

Either the much talked about but rarely seen backup is absolutely clueless and an even bigger waste of a scholarship & a jersey than Milton OR Heupel is clueless and got really lucky last year.

The only surprising thing about today's game is the first play. Otherwise, it's been exactly what I expected.

*And yes, I'm more than a little surprised that no one has uncovered some link between Joe F'n Milton and Reggie F'n Ball. 3rd cousins or something.

And that's the end of Dino Babers at Syracuse.

Not surprising, he certainly got plenty of years there, but, I doubt the next coach will be even as modestly successful as he was there.

So how many feet does Lincoln Riley have out the door? It's been clear he's been checked out for a few weeks, but I can't imagine any scenario in which he come back to USC after the way he's mailed in the last half of the season.

Where would he even go? If you can't win more than 7 games with a generational talent at QB with USC, what are your options?

I usually only root for Michigan when they are playing OSU or ND. But this year, in light of the cheating scandal, I'm forced to root for Ohio State. UGH.

Classy. Wish him best in the future.

"I have been overwhelmed by the support from my teammates, coaches, the Florida State community and those all around the world," Travis wrote in his statement. "Although the injury ... marks the end of my Seminole playing career, the great memories created here at FSU will never fade.

"Being the quarterback here at Florida State University has been a dream come true. I am humbled, honored and forever grateful. The journey this team set out on is not over yet as all of our goals still lie just ahead. I am excited to be by my brothers' sides every day as we continue our attack. We're all we got, we're all we need. Job's not finished. Go Noles!"

This is how it starts and the next thing you know, it's 2 seasons later and you've turned into one of those douchebags that dress up in OSU gear with painted faces.

This isn't a risk you should take.

I was at Iowa a long, long time ago and one of those guys approached us and asked us if we wanted a picture with him. We declined and he sulked away. He smelled horrible.

I took the over on this game as part of a 4 best teaser, which meant the over only had to exceed 19. 4th quarter and total is 20 right now, this is not modern College Football LOL.

I think the defender's head was bent so much that it could be argued that the back of the helmet made more contact with the offensive player than the crown of the helmet.

I can't lie. I am sort of enjoying it. I like Iowa's running game and Preston* has thrown a few good balls for Nebraska. It would be better if it were on grass and we had a few more weather elements involved but it is a good game to have on in the background.

* Something told me that parents who named one of their children Brock were not naming another child Chubba so I had to check and well Preston just seems more appropriate.

Of course now we could get the kinda poetic justice of Michigan winning the final 4-team playoff only to have the title stripped once the NCAA finishes a multi-year investigation.

The last 2 seasons have been a disappointment but beating UL 5 times in a row and UF 3 of the last 5 times (I think) and going to a bowl every year is about all UK fans really can expect.
