OT: Stephen King story ever a movie?
I loved "The Mist" and tend to read it once a year. Great horror story. While a bit sci-fi, it certainly tugs at you in a good way.
Has there ever been a movie done of this story? I remember the old movie "The Fog" with Hal Holbrook. That wasn't based on the movie from what I remember. The new one that came out last year was an adaptation of the 79 movie. I doubt "The Mist" was ever touched. It would be cool to see if it was though.

Well, the tug can be done easily, but "The Mist" requires some sort of mesh covering.... Ah, hell, I tried ![]()

I don't think there was ever a movie made from this short story. It's one of my favorite's as well. I wish he had made it into a full-length novel.

I definitely agree it had/has some potential for a movie. I could have sworn i heard there was a movie being made about it at some point in the 90s, but obviously nothing ever came of that.

dola. Just did a search and found a blog that makes it look like perhaps Frank Darabout (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) is working on it.

Very cool! I've always enjoyed the story but apparently it had been licensed out to film for about 20 years now and nothing ever came of it. I'm very glad to see that's now changed...

I'm thinking she was late twenties/early thirties. Re-read the story a few months back but don't remember that exact detail, though...

OMG!!!! I just fell backward in time to 7th grade... my mom was leary about me reading that. that was the time when rumors of kids playing D&D were going around neighborhoods killing animals, acting out their quests. I had to tell her that because it said the words Dungeon and dragon in the summary, it wasn't affiliated with that stuff. It was a very, very good book. I would probably read it again for nostalgia sake.

Which release was this one in? I don't believe I've read it before.
Off topic, but has anyone gotten their hands on King's new novel? The reviews make it sound like it is vintage King. |

Eyes of the Dragon was a separate book...Steven King wanted to write a story he was comfortable for his 10 or 11 year old daughter reading...so he wrote it....
its a wonderful story of good versus evil... |

Yup, Skeleton Crew.
I always loved Eyes of the Dragon. I don't know how many times I've read it, but it's been a bunch. Of course, I've read most of King's novels a bunch of times. Haven't picked up Cell yet, it may have to wait until the summer when I have more free time to read...

You know, that perfect little village that they stumble accross in the movie Big Fish always reminded me of something out of "They've Got One Hell of a Band".

The Road Virus Heads North is a hell of a story. Hopefully I'll be able to catch these, but I'm afraid that I'll be working...

That article doesn't exactly get my hopes up for the movie. It'll still be a definite must see though and I'll hope for the best.

Author and Stephen King fan Bev Vincent managed to visit the set of The Mist. Looks like it's going strong!

Has anyone else seen it? Exactly what I expected based on the trailer... a b-level movie.
Marcia Gay Harden was especially over the top in this one. |

Bump for those interested.
I just saw The Mist tonight...I have not read the book, so make of that what you will, but I had no preconcieved notions when I sat down to watch it. I liked it...but it had about 3-4 blatantly amateurish moments, and debatably 3 or more in addition. If you can look past (what I consider to be) typical over the top King characters (at least in the movie versions), then you might enjoy it. If you have no idea what the storyline is about, I would suggest keeping it that way (dont even read the back of the DVD) if you are willing to live dangerously. Nothing top notch about it...but very entertaining...in a "I am Legend" or "28 weeks later" sorta way. My tolerance for poor acting is a bit high, so YMMV. Yeah...good writeup Drake. I did not read the original book, but I have to say I thought the "big scene"(trying not to spoil it for others) was completely tacky and unecessary.
