This Is So Not My Day

If it were Monday, I'd understand, but seriously, what a morning already:
-slipped down a half-flight of stairs (inside, socks slid on carpet), bruising the hell out of my arm
-coffee maker at home (Keurig) wouldn't properly brew a cup, would either brew a few drops or way too much
-iPod looks active but isn't playing...and isn't resetting, either
-hand splint isn't staying on ("luckily" I have PT later and they can get me new Velcro I think that's all it needs)
-noticed splotches on my neck and chest and have no idea who to call (don't have a primary care doc)

Man I should just go home and get back in bed.

Well most of the day sucked, but I went to the gym tonight and had a great workout, so I'm happy now. Arm is uber bruised. Splint has been fixed (they gave me new Velcro at PT). iPod finally reset (took about 10 tries, even after plugging it in) and seems to be ok now. And, I went to Urgent Care and got a referral to a dermatologist, so I guess we'll see about the splotches.

What a day.

TK, I'm late to this thread, but how in the hell can you of all people not have a primary care doctor?

I don't think she has a need. Everything that happens to her ends up needing her to go to a specialist anyways - might as well just cut out the middle-man. Or middle-woman in this case.

I thought most insurance companies required a Primary Care physician to make a referral to a specialist? At least that is what my wife had to do. She's been working with the same pulmonary doctors since her illness, but after she got out of the hospital she still had to go to a PCP to get the referral even if it was just going through the motions.

Is that just insurance company red-tape and it differs depending on your insurance provider?

differs on your provider. I could go to a specialist directly without a referral.. but some specialists don't take patients without a referal.

My insurance company doesn't require referrals. And so far, none of my specialists have required them, either.

To be quite honest, my orthopaedic surgeons are my primary care doctors (I realize how sad that sounds, it is true though). Unfortunately, they're not so good with splotches. Actually, at my last surgery, my surgeon was the one who listened to my heart and lungs before surgery. Every other time, it's been the anesthesiologist. I almost bust out laughing and asked if he still knew how to use a stethoscope (he's a highly-regarded hand surgeon), but then thought better of angering the guy who was about to cut me...

Man, my iPod is having a dickens of a week. Thursday it didn't want to play. All the buttons worked, but when I hit play, it didn't do anything. But I could go through menus, volume adjust, etc. After a bunch of tries, I finally got it to reset (took 10-15 tries). Saturday morning it was fine, then wasn't fine. I plugged it into my aux input in my car (via the headphone jack) and no sound came out, even though it was playing. That's happened before, and again it took more than a few tries to reset it. Now it's not wanting to get recognized by my computer.

I think I bought this one in late August/early September 2006, so it's a bit over 2 years old now. I guess that might be close to the normal point at which it should die. Guess I should start thinking of what I'll replace it with, either a 4g nano or 2g Touch.

Dola,
Looking at the history of iPods, it looked like my first iPod (40GB 3rd gen) lasted about 3 years before it was killed by the cat (he was trying to play with my keys on the counter and knocked them and the nearby iPod off the counter into his water dish).

My sister has one from late '04 that's still going strong (4th gen). She doesn't do daily updates to it, though (no podcasts or anything). I wonder if Apple is trying to make iPods die quicker so they get replaced more often, or if it's the way I've used the 5g one I've got that has made it seem to die more quickly than the 2 older ones I have experience with.
