What a crazy year.......I cant believe against those three teams that I snuck into the playoffs with the last game of the season. great 3 team run for the second playoff spot in the CL this year......now its time for me to get blasted by Havana.

Have I mentioned that I hate my manic/depressive team recently?

Sigh, being in the playoffs would have been fun. Congrats to Havana, Plantana, New York, and Las Vegas!!!

I am shocked that Ine has been a starting player in this league for 17 seasons with as horrible a hitter as he has been.

Its the defensive ability that has kept him around for that long. 7 gold gloves is quite a career.

Yes.. but he is a catcher! It is not like he was a 7 time gold glove Shortstop.

Over the last 17 seasons, he has the second best RTO% which is pretty good but lets compare to good ole Bob Joly whom many of us are familiar with. Joly is 16th on the list, 34% RTO vs Ine's 44% over that same time span.

Due to various reasons, Ine played more innings, but threw out almost 500 less runners. 874-396. Why did so many more people try to steal against Joly then Ine? Maybe reputation of his arm? Who knows! But in the end, Ine's great fielding ability averaged only one extra win per season over Joly's average fielding ability. In many seasons, Ine on the other hand had NEGATIVE VORP, and his bats likely lost more games than his glove won.

I know this is weird coming from me since I have always been so pro-defense, but Ine is just a strange case study to me of when it goes too extreme in one direction that it might become less useful.

I agree with you and thats why I never signed him. I have found that the AI doesn't steal as much against great arm catchers. Is there a way to guess (roughly) how many base runners he would have thrown out if he had just as many attempting to steal on him?

What happened to my 19-5 ST record? Oh that's right my FA starting pitchers actually threw for more than 4 innings at a time.

Geez!

Yeah, just take Joly's RSTA+RTO and then multiply it by Ine's RTO% and that should give you the rough number. Since Joly threw out roughly 34% and Ine 44% in that time frame, just doing the math in my head, I would guess somewhere around 1150-1200

Well I'm pretty sure my collapse is tied to the fact that I left a Spring Training 6 man rotation set with only 5 guys starting.

Crap.

I will ride this as long as I can, because I believe my prediction of a fall in the fortunes of the Hibbies will officially begin next year. There is no chance I'll be able to resign superstar CF Angel Castillo, and I don't want to bring back ace Jose Fernandez at ace pay at the age of 35. On top of that, #3 pitcher Wicaksono Layar has pitched himself into demands for a huge contract his talent doesn't actually fit, so he's going to walk, too. Hall, LaRocque and Peppers are on the wrong side of 30 and approaching their own walk years next year. And I don't have much coming in the minors.

So I am crossing my fingers I can ride this team one more time to a championship before I fall back to the pack and need to do a reset for the future of the franchise.

Grats to the playoff teams!

Funny little side note on my rookie 3B Jesus Olson. Says he is from Parma, Ohio - which is about 5 miles from where I live

I don't think I have ever been in worst shape than I am now in regards to starting pitching. My "stud" for many years turned 35 this season - he went from 4 stars to begin the season to a half of a star.... I only have two SP's on my roster other than him and they are both 2 star (one had a 5+ ERA and the other had an outstanding 8+ ERA this season). The worst part of all this is I only have one SP in the Naps minors who will be worth anything - please please please let this years draft be loaded with SP's

Having the second pick in the draft you should be able to get a pretty darn good pitcher. Ive gotten a couple over the last few seasons but I had to put one back down in the minors that i had brought straight up to the majors but he wasnt progressing....Im hoping AAA will help him for at least one year and then bring him up....if not....oh well.
