Simply put he knew the system far better than the other QB's there, and from what I had read cleaned up his act a bit and was more professional. Who knows he could have been just as bad as the rest of the Cards QB's that year, but he was the best option at the start of the season, certainly not Derek freaking Anderson. I hope he proves Whisenhunt wrong now that he's been given a second chance.

And I still wince everytime that Bears Monday Night game is referenced. Talk about a painful loss....

So is anyone else thinking that this Peyton Manning guy is actually quite a good QB?

Has there ever been another player so singularly vital to their team's success?

Rizon, unless of course you're going two players. Luigi could be equally important!

Is Jim Harbaugh really that good of a coach? Or is it that he's pretty good, but Mike Singletary was just awful? How did the 49ers not win that division last year?

If you're the 49ers would you trade two first round picks for Peyton Manning?

One nice thing for the Colts is if Manning comes back next year, they will be playing a 4th-place schedule. I smell championship!

No but I could see them making this move for Andrew Luck.

It will take a lot more than that to get Luck.

The 49ers are pretty much the same team as last year, so I'm inclined to think that Singletary just wasn't the right man for the personnel last season. It goes to show how important/how big of an impact a head coach can have on a team. The big difference is, the 2011 49ers look like they are prepared and well practiced, as opposed to the 2010 49ers looking like a confused bunch of pop warner kids trying figure out where the ball was.

You really shouldn't be insulting Pop Warner kids in that manner.

It seems Harbaugh is really good. I mean he took Stanford from a worthless college football team and now they are in BCS contention. He has taken a 49ers team that didnt seem to care about winning games last year and has made them an exciting bunch of winners.

Its not X's and O's but he knows how to get teams excited.

He is a great motivator. He was that way at Michigan too, unfortunately the teams back then were all about running it up the middle 50 times a game.

The Skins seem most likely to do something like this. Fire Shanahan and hire a Peyton friendly coach. Maybe you get Manning and Reggie Wayne for a couple #1s. Tennessee would be a logical fit, but I suspect they will just re-up Tim and let him and Locker fight it out.

the Niners will probably go after someone like Josh Johnson who would provide non threatening depth with upside to fit behind Smith.

4th place schedule means they get the Browns and whomever is worst in the AFC West. It could easily be the Chargers. The 4th place sched is, at most, 2 extra winnable games.

You just described the Tebow-led 2011 Denver Broncos.

I'm stoked Leinart is finally getting a shot, I think Whisenhunt put his personal business before the team and I think there's a pretty good chance that Leinart is just as good as Kevin Kolb, who the Cardinals gave up something decent to get and are paying elite money for.

At least if he sucks in Houston for half a season we'll know he was never going to be a good QB even if given half a chance.

Kolb was calling out Eagles’ plays to Arizona defense | ProFootballTalk

Quote:
“During the two-minute drill, you almost feel guilty,” Kolb said. “Mike’s sitting there giving the signals, and I’m standing there on our sidelines, screaming at our corners, ‘Hey it’s a go ball, hey he’s running a screen, hey he’s running a slant.’”

It’s unknown whether and to what extent all of the struggles of the 2011 Eagles can be blamed on coach Andy Reid. The failure to change signals and formations and other things that a guy who spent four years with the team as a quarterback could use to help an opposing defense falls squarely on Reid, especially since Reid knew that Kolb likely wouldn’t be playing — and thus able to loiter on the sidelines when the defense was on the field, in lieu of working with the offensive coaches.

well that was pretty dumb of Andy Reid not to change signals for that game.

You've got to think that the receivers went back to Reid and told him that Kolb was reading the plays, too. I mean, if the corners could hear Kolb, then I'm sure the receivers heard him, too. So if that's the case, Reid still didn't (or couldn't, I guess) change anything at that point. At some point, you've got to just quit using signals and go with what's called in the huddle, right? That's gotta be better than having the corners know exactly what you're doing.
