While the team sucks, the hitting especially average wise, has been fairly decent. I think they are top 5 in the AL in batting average or atleast were. Weaver has dominated them in the past so this isnt the biggest surprise in the world.

They lost Terry Ryan for a few years and the bottom fell out for the franchise. The once stacked minor league system is not in good shape at the moment. Will be awhile before they can fix this.

Heath Bell comes in, gives up 3 straight hits and a run making the score 2-1. Ozzie promptly removes him from the game. Giants with runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs in the bottom of the 9th.

And of course, Cishek, while allowing the tying run, does a nice job getting out of the mess he inherited. And of course, Cishek, not Bell, gets the "blown save."

Every year I get more militant about this save crap...

Agree completely. This is one of them rare times that a player that gets the blown save actually deserves the win however. Heath Bell just needs a few days off to find his curveball. Teams are just sitting on his fastball knowing he cant do anything but bounce curveballs right now.

I think ESPN hires 8th graders to write recaps

Minnesota Twins vs. Los Angeles Angels - Recap - May 02, 2012 - ESPN
Quote:
Weaver struck out nine and walked one. The Twins never came close to getting a hit against the All-Star right-hander.

"It was an easy ride," Weaver said.
Phil Humber of the Chicago White Sox threw a perfect game at Seattle on April 21.
Weaver (4-0), a California native who played at Long Beach State, began the ninth by quickly retiring Jamey Carroll on a routine fly and striking out Denard Span looking.
Weaver then got Alexi Casilla to lift a long fly that right fielder Torii Hunter easily caught at the warning track. The Angels' ace watched his Gold Glove outfielder make the play, and put his hands on his head as the Angels rushed out to mob him.
"Spiderman out there. I knew he had a bead on it," Weaver said of Hunter. "Casilla put a charge in it and Spiderman tracked it down."
An inning earlier, Weaver and his teammates could only hope when Trevor Plouffe lined a shot that hooked foul a few feet before reaching the left-field foul pole.

I dunno why shit like this pisses me off, but they basically contradict themselves about 4 paragraphs later. Surely if this majestic foul ball was dramatic enough to mention, then it qualifies as coming close to getting a hit.

Or whatever.

The Nationals had a rough slide, but Harper so far has been as advertised. I'm starting to be rather unahppy that I don't get the tv feed.

The Nats are so much fun to watch now. Great pitching and defense almost every night. Harper is a fucking STUDHOG. If I can't go to the game then I DVR the games and start watching about 90 minutes in. Life is good.

I've been trying to watch them too. Between them and the NHL playoffs I'm beginning to drive the kids nuts.

At least with the pitching the games tend to be short (unlike the hockey...)

Eh, they are just trying to spread the phantom touching of the base around instead of just leaving it at second base.

That is a funny call though. I would love to hear the conversation between the ump and the evaluator.

I'm also happy that people who weren't necessarily as excited about them in previous years are maybe coming around. The attendance at Harper's first game was pathetic. I wish I was at last night's game, but the reality is that normal people can't go to every game.

Hey, Pujols had one of his best games of the season to help out the no-hitter effort. He went 1 for 5 with a single, scored a run, and didn't strike out once!

You left out relevant information

1) How old is he?
2) How veteran-ny is he?
3) If not old, how "gritty" is he?

It would only have been funnier if he had put Harris at leadoff (because he used to be fast)

Pablo Sandoval broke his hamate in his left hand. Broke the same bone in the other hand last year and missed six weeks.

It blows. The Giants manager is a crank who thinks anyone under 35 lacks "veteran experience" and giving young players a chance means 15 AB's, while Miguel Tejada gets half a year.

Ryan Dempster now has ERA of 0.95, with a record of 0-1. He is about to see his win blown by Marmol for 2nd time this year.

Pedro is 2 for 4 with another homer today.

OPS over .900 now (with an OBP under 300, somehow).

Hopefully, he keeps it up and makes me eat my words from this thread. Still not sold, though.

Another reason why the wins stat sucks ass.

And another reason why Marmol should not be closing (or not be a Cub).

Sad to see Rivera go out with an injury. I dislike the Yankees as much as the next guy but it's impossible to not respect what he's done.

It's not the injury, it's that even in my deep seated hatred for the Yankees, I hate to see a baseball great end his career like that. It's sad that it happened.

Although I can see a point where he comes back just so he can go out on his terms. A knee injury for a pitcher in baseball is rough, but he's been mostly injury free for his whole career. It's possible.

Hate the Yankees with a passion, but Rivera is one of my favorite baseball players ever. Truly sad.

I read an article on ESPN that made my brain hurt today. I know that's almost all of them, but this one really took the cake. It's an insider article so I can't link it, but here is the quick synopsis:

King Albert had a quote saying he's not worried about HR, because they come in bunches.

Ben Lindbergh from baseball prospectus decided to research if HR came in bunches. He proceeds to study the likeliness of 2 HR games for current and passed players and comes to the conclusion that HR do not come in bunches, because there is no evidence that the all time greats or Pujols hits 2 or more HR in a game anymore than what their predicted rate would be.

My brain almost exploded at this. Does he really think HR in bunches means the player is talking about multi homer games? You think maybe the player is referring to the fact that he might have a stretch where he hits 8 or 9 over a two week span?

Good lord.
