Don't need to take the quiz. Can identify all 50 states. The island protectorates ... not so much, beyond Puerto Rico.

The quiz is kinda bogus because you're only given two choices for each state. I tried to do it the honest way and answer in my head before seeing the choices.

I like when the choices are something like "1. Michigan or 2. Maryland."

Got all 50. Hate that I had to click about 150 ties to do so.
Probably made someone .13 for my efforts

Just missed 1. Chose Minnesota instead of Wisconsin. I've driven from Des Moines to Minneapolis, so I should not have missed it. I just started going too fast with all the clicks.

Could have made the pairings a little more difficult and it might have made the East Coast a little trickier.

There's a Sporcle quiz that has you identify each state one at a time by randomly picking a state and forcing you to click on a blank map of the US. The catch is that there are no state lines drawn, so you have to click blindly inside the borders of the US. As you correctly click on them, the borders fill in, but one miss and you lose and have to start over. Very interesting premise.

I was solidly in the 25% range for about ten or fifteen attempts before nailing 100%.

Also, apologies if I have now introduced you to Sporcle. Possibly the biggest internet time sink I've ever found.

Made it pretty easy when they didn't pair vermont and new hampshire for me.

Sporcle is awesome/terrible depending on how much you have to get done.

New Hampshire points North. Use the N to give you direction.

I could draw a fairly accurate map of the U.S., with state lines and capitals when I was four. I still have the evidence (map laminated by my parents).

I was smart. SMRT

Yeah, the way they paired possible answers made it easy. I could have been tripped up on Mississippi/Alabama and New Hampshire/Vermont, but they chose not to present difficult pairings like that.

All 50. There's a US presidents one that's in this same vein somewhere.

I play way too much President Infinity to ever fail at a 50 states game.

I got 49. Not too bad for a foreigner, I guess. I got Kansas wrong. Seriously, who the hell cares where Kansas is?

(p.s. sorry for the poor attempt at riling up any of our Kansas peeps)

I got 100% on both tests. bob's link was much better. Midwest bias, I do the worst in the northeast. Without really thinking about it, I have a hard time separating Vermont/New Hampshire and the Connecticut/Rhode Island/Delaware mess.

I stopped after being given this choice for the third question:

California or Florida

........

I can assuredly name all forty-two.

Yeah same. Those two pairing could have tripped me up but weren't in there.

Those are easy. Mississippi borders the river; New Hampshire and Vermont look vaguely like an N and a V, respectively.

I went to 3rd through 8th grade in the DC public school system. First day of social studies in the 7th grade, we were given a map and asked to identify all of the states. I got 49, forgot Utah for some reason. 17 was the next highest in my class.

DC schools baby.
