Help needed making a 16-4-16 universe
Does somebody know how to create a customer 16-4-16 universe so I can name my own teams instead of having them randomly generated. I've seen bits and pieces of info around but I can't seem to figure it out. A step by step for dummies would be so much appreciated.

So 16_4_6 is a default configuration so it's not too bad. I think this would work:
Backup these files before you mess with them 1. In your \steam\steamapps\common\Front Office Football Nine\default_data folder there is a default teams.csv file. 2. Scroll down in this file until you see 16_4_6 in column A. There are 16 teams listed and you can modify the all the information there. 3. To get the teams in the game all you need is to create an xxxx_info.csv file. In your \steam\steamapps\common\Front Office Football Nine\custom_example folder there is an example one. Really all you would need to do is change the schedule to 16_4_6 and change the base year to whatever you want. 4. When you start a new game, use the custom file option and goto your xxxx_info.csv file, the game will generate all the players for you. You might have to start with a draft, but that would be a way to get going with minimal effort. |

I followed these steps and when I create a new game and click on xxxx_info.csv, I get the following error: Scheduleid in info table does not match any entry in league_info.csv
Thanks for the help! Also, just so I'm clear, when you say xxxx_info.csv, the 'xxxx' part is the name of the universe i enter first thing when i click new game, right? Edited to add: I see you kept typing 16_4_6, but did you mean 16_4_16?

Sorry, yes I did mean 16_4_16. That's really weird, I'm able to start a league, all I did was: 1. Copy example_info.csv to the default_data folder 2. Change the schedule in the example_info.csv from 12_2_16 to 16_4_16 3. Select use a custom player file 4. Navigate to the example_info.csv 5. Use a draft to set the rosters And that worked for me. It should use the teams in the default_teams file |

I've tried this 4 times now with no luck - getting the same error. such a frustrating way to change team names. Sigh.

Trying each step one by one and I notice that if I leave the example csv alone and create a 12 team league it works, but it does not use the team cities and names in the default league csv. It creates random cities and names each time i create this league.

In this 'default' scenario, if I click that on, then i get a different error when going to team creation screen: New game failed because the files containing team information do not match whats needed to support the chosen league start year. So I unclick it and it loads the league, but with random cities and nicknames each time.

Does you default_teams.csv file have a 16_4_16 in the league column?

It does. I think he is just looking for the names to be updated. Now that being said, the NFL ran a 16/4/14 from 67-69. In game though the league years file begins in 70 so I assume you could run the 16/4/16 beginning in 70 and all is good.

Like Nawlins said, it does.
I really just want a custom 16/4/16 because the random universes make no sense with nicknames and geography, and the sim screen only shows nicknames without the city, so i have no idea who i am playing other than random nickname team. If Jim would add the city and nickname to the schedule screen it would help, but custom would be ideal.

So you can't just update the team names for 16_4_16 in default_teams? (Trying it here now...)

Yeah, that worked. Update the team names in default_teams and pick default team assignments. You don't need to do the custom league thing.
So, after editing the file, you start thusly... 1. Don't use FOF player file 2. Don't use your own player file set 3. League structure = 16 treams, 4 divisions, 16 games 4. Begin with whichever draft you want 5. Use default team assignments.

(I'd imagine if you're doing cities other than the default ones, you'd also need to update the city IDs. Otherwise TeamID 1 is going to be based in St. Louis behind the scenes no matter what you call them. I just updated the nicknames to make sure it worked.)

What I ran into an issue with earlier "B" was I tried starting one in 67 using the 70 rotation. The game kept crashing. I wanted to go back and just start it in 70 but got busy. **Note** Interesting. I created the custom info file to start in 67 earlier and had crash issues, don't know why. I just edited the file for a 70 start but left it titled 1967_info, created a new uni and it worked but/and it started in 1967! ???? Neverming, PC error. I edited the earlier "info" file but saved it in the wrong place. So the 67 start is fine.

Oh I didn't bother with weird years. I just started in 2023. It worked fine that way.

All listed in that cities file. If you have excel its much easier to filtyer the columns and search the name column for what you are looking for.
