The irony - that should have been an obvious roughing the passer on Mahomes there

Yes, it is crazy. We're not even talking about how it just returned to being a 5-score, soon to be 6-score game. We're still talking about whether it's a football league's duty to promote a national decorated artist on a perceived international stage. I suppose going onto that stage and insulting a fellow artist could help him sell records across the border?

His shoulder was starting to go forward, not his arm.

If you're in line to sack Patrick Mahomes, stay in line.

I mean the last time the Chiefs lost in the Super Bowl, the defensive line was dominant and the QB went 21-29 201 yards and 3TDs and -2 rushing yards.

The opposing QB won the MVP.

That was a clear penalty but the play continued. If I was the DB I would have sat on the 1 yard line while the clock ran.

That's right. Kenny Pickett is going to get a Super Bowl ring in a Super Bowl he actually played in.

Joe Namath, Joe Montana and Jalen Hurts. He is the first quarterback not named Joe to do it.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, has Terry Bradshaw been dealing with any health issues recently or is that just a guy getting old? I don't watch the pre or postgame shows so I don't know if that was a normal performance for him this year.

I never watch pre- or post-game commentary (and didnt see tonight's) but I have seen Bradshaw do halftime highlights a couple times this year and he was terrible, nearly incomprehensible.

Yeah, Terry was never really all there to begin with but you can definitely tell age is getting to him.

I wish they had a way of splitting the MVP 11 ways, because that defense was phenomenal until they went prevent-ish early in the fourth quarter. No real standout, but lots of difference-making plays. Have to give it to Hurts, though.

His health has deteriorated significantly over the past few years. I think he's been diagnosed with bladder cancer and skin cancer.

Went into the game thinking I'd be vaguely for the Chiefs, but I found myself rooting for the Eagles once the game started, so that ended up being good.

I am surprised that Mahomes and Reid with two weeks to prepare seemed so disjointed. This game will be brought up a lot in the future by Brady/Belichick stans in their debates with Reid/Mahomes stans.

It will get lost to time that the Chiefs defense played pretty well.

Hurts is the definition of a "win with" QB. And that's more valuable than people realize. Glad he got a ring.

As an almost-50-year-old guy, I was the exact target audience for Samuel L. Jackson being the physical embodiment of America, so that was awesome. And Kendrick is one of the all time greats, so even if the genre didn't appeal to everyone, it made perfect sense for him to be up there. And I'm a sucker for pro-America propaganda, so the flag motif was neat.

Commercials were fine. We seem to have hit an era where we will no longer get the all-time classics, but most of them were light chuckle worthy. Though I did not recognize about half of the people in them who I was clearly supposed to recognize (see above re: almost 50 years old).

Every single one of my prop bets missed except for one. The game script being unexpected was not kind to my wallet.

Congrats to the Eagles.

Didn't watch the game but watched the commercials below.

Super Bowl 2025 commercials: The most controversial ad was also the worst. The best was a surprise.

Must be me but this years batch seems bleh.

Rocket Mortgage - who doesn't like "Country Roads". It would have been fantastic with a shot of John Denver
Nike - female athletes was cool.
Dodge Ram - fun with Glen Powell
Hellmann's - only for sentimental reasons, who doesn't like Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal

Other

Mt Dew - wanted to like it, but way too weird for me

That Rocket Mortgage one flopped hard, but mostly because of what happened after. If you didn't watch the game, then you didn't see. They cut straight live to the stadium playing "Country Roads" and tried to encourage the whole crowd to "come together and sing." Less than a quarter of the crowd did. It actually ended up pretty awkward.

Ah, thanks. It would have been cool if it worked (wrong demographics?)

Ain't it funny how in a team sport a tremendous team effort makes a team win and some people try to pin point a single person as being the difference maker?

We, as we typically do, muted all of the commercials. I saw some of them, but there was no sound so I didn't really follow what was going on. What I saw generally looked pretty silly.

The main one I didn't get from a "who" perspective was the one with Drew Barrymore. I didn't know who the guy with her was.

This half time show (mind you, I had the tv muted) confused me. Although it is a national championship game in a sport that's niche on a global scale, the Russian/North Korean propaganda was hard to match with how the NFL keeps saying they try to get and keep an international fanbase. What was the message they wanted to put out there? If you like our sport, go full on Elon Musk: emigrate to the USA and alienate from your homeland?

I think you really need to let this go.There comes a time when the target audience is no longer you, and you accept that and move on.

Again, Lamar had the number one most downloaded single in the World on Apple Music last year. He has been breaking records in sales for the last year. It is not my taste in music either, but it is hard to argue he is a not big enough star for the halftime show.

Infinitely this, we seem to have a variation on this discussion every year.

If you are on this board posting about the Super Bowl or indeed football at any other time of the year, you are not the target audience for the half-time show. It is purely to get additional eyes on the game and associated adverts and social media views for people who wouldn't otherwise watch. Go and get another beer or a coffee or something while it's on.

DOLA - lots of people rage watching and then posting all over the internet about it after is also exactly what the NFL is hoping for as well.

He's successful through some channels and in some countries, point taken. I think I've already tired and failed your (and bhlloy's) advice (and mentioned it beforehand) to try to ignore it and run some errands until the game continues. But that doesn't answer my question (regardless the artists) why the show was set up as it was, because I think it's counterproductive towards the NFL trying to expand its brand across the borders.

Yeah this was less about American propaganda and more about reminding people what America is, given the person in attendence, and I'm guessing there were some changes to the imagery over the past week.

All in all, I thought it was a great halftime show.

I could see the confusion for someone watching with the TV muted but given the context of the lyrics and statements it was clearly sending a specific message with a side of FU to Drake.

I don't know who Drake is or why anyone is saying FU to him(?). I'm old and did not watch the half time show. I did what I always do, set a timer for 30 minutes and returned to the tv for the second half.

And all due respect you have zero clue what you are talking about with the helmet catch. Eli should have been taken down about 5 different times that play and he kept it alive.

As for the Swift hate I really don't get it. They show her like a total, of 35 seconds, in a 4 hour broadcast.
Who pissed in your cornflakes? I've forgotten more about football than you'll ever know. Eli is NOT an HoF QB but he'll get in anyway. You're entitled to your opinion even when it's off base.

And if you can't understand the whole Swift thing it's more evidence of your lack of awareness.

Well, you're basing it on his 2 SB wins. It's the ultimate team game. Try to be consistent with your arguments.

You called him a one hit wonder. That's not accurate under any reasonable definition of that term. He is immensely successful in the US AND worldwide. He had two songs this year that were #1 on the Worldwide charts, plus 4 others that were top 10. His album GNX hit #1 in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, and UK.

Don't pull a muscle patting yourself on the back over your football prowess...

and if you are one of these guys up in arms over seeing Taylor Swift, checks notes, 3 times in a 4 hour broadcast you should probably start exploring your toxic masculinity and fragile male ego.

Yeah he has 5 grammys for rap song of the year and 3 rap album of the year wins. He also has a Pulizter for music and 22 total grammys. He's been considered one of the best rappers alive for more than a decade and one of the biggest names in rap for the past 7-8 years.
