    Last season

Philly looked like a boss in the East before Joel Embiid was lost for two months with a meniscus injury. The Sixers won 47 games anyway and Embiid returned in time for the playoffs, but Philadelphia had fallen into the SoFi Play-In Tournament. Embiid starred as the 76ers won and claimed the No. 7 seed, but in the playoffs, they were a player short of going deep into May.
They did discover a co-star in Maxey (25.9 points per game), who became an All-Star and thrived in the leading-man role while Embiid was out. (He also collected Kia Most Improved Player and NBA Sportsmanship Award honors.) Coach Nick Nurse also pushed the right buttons to keep this team in contention. Still, once it was apparent the Sixers were a level below other contenders, the suspense and concentration transferred to the offseason for a team loaded with cap space.

    Summer summary:

General manager Daryl Morey spent years defining the Sixers’ cap situation for this moment: the chance to add a significant player alongside Embiid. What Morey discovered, as a pleasant surprise, was Maxey emerging into that second star. Then it was all about finding that third piece.
Another surprise? George’s willingness to bolt the Clippers. That made for simply matching a title-starved player with a title-starved team. By waiting until this summer to extend Maxey, the Sixers could load up on George, Drummond, and Martin. Overall, it was an impressive summer haul for a team that was already 50-win caliber.

    Spotlight On:

In one sense, George is coming to the right place at the right time. He doesn’t need to be the lead singer, as he was with the Indiana Pacers. He won’t carry a sizable load as he did with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He’s also not charged with turning a franchise around, as it was with the Clippers. Still, there’s a bit of urgency for the 34-year-old swingman to be a difference-maker in what may be his best and last chance to win a title.

How far can the Sixers go?

Three teams in the East appear to be a cut above the rest, and the Sixers are in such company with the Celtics and Knicks. Which means, a trip to June is realistic. Buoyed by an uplifting offseason, the Sixers are bringing a solid starting five and potentially three 2025 All-Stars.

It all comes back to Embiid, though, their most dominant player. Does he have another Kia MVP-like run in him? Given his weight and injury history, the Sixers probably need to win a title in the next 3-4 years with him still in his prime. Maybe they’ll get there sooner rather than later. Maybe it all comes together this season.

      Opening Night:

In their home opener, the Philadelphia 76ers claimed a 113-104 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on October 23, 2024, despite key absences for both squads. The 76ers were without Joel Embiid and Paul George, while the Bucks missed Khris Middleton. Milwaukee held the edge in points in the paint (PIP) and time of possession, with Giannis Antetokounmpo posting a dominant double-double of 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists. Damian Lillard added 25 points, and Pat Connaughton contributed 19, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Philadelphia’s sharp perimeter shooting.

The 76ers led in both assists and three-point makes, knocking down six more threes than the Bucks. Tyrese Maxey stole the show with a scorching 55-point performance on 13-24 shooting, single-handedly shouldering the scoring load as no other 76er reached double figures. With a two-game road trip next, the 76ers will look to maintain momentum as they face the Toronto Raptors on October 25 and the Indiana Pacers on October 27.

In a gritty matchup on October 27, 2024, the Indiana Pacers edged out the Philadelphia 76ers, 96-91. Missing star center Joel Embiid and newly acquired Paul George, Philly battled but struggled without their key players. Myles Turner also sat out for the Pacers, yet Indiana took control with strong interior play, leading in Points in the Paint, Second-Chance Points, and Bench Points. James Wiseman proved to be the difference-maker, dominating in the fourth quarter and finishing with an impressive 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tyrese Haliburton chipped in 19 points, while Pascal Siakam and T.J. McConnell contributed 17 points each.

Philadelphia kept it close, leading in assists and three-point makes, though both teams had cold shooting nights from beyond the arc—Philly hit just 29%, while Indiana managed only 27%. Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with 29 points but struggled with ball control, committing 5 turnovers. Andre Drummond recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

The 76ers look to bounce back as they head into a two-game homestand, facing the Detroit Pistons on October 30 and the Memphis Grizzlies on November 2.

The Philadelphia 76ers, missing stars Joel Embiid and Paul George, narrowly edged out the Detroit Pistons, 115-110, in a gritty contest on October 30, 2024. Tyrese Maxey went off, leading Philly with an explosive 48 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Kelly Oubre Jr. added 13 as the only other Sixer in double figures. Philadelphia dominated inside, leading in points in the paint and on the boards.

For Detroit, Cade Cunningham’s all-around effort shone as he tallied 20 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Jalen Duren anchored the glass with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Pistons bench provided a strong push, outscoring the Sixers' reserves, but it wasn’t quite enough to overcome Maxey’s stellar night.

In a game that grew increasingly physical, both teams visited the free-throw line often, with a whopping 76 foul shots taken. Fans in Philly voiced their frustration with the whistles, booing and chanting “let them play” at the refs in the second half.

The 76ers now head into a two-game stretch against the Memphis Grizzlies at home on November 2, before hitting the road to face Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns on November 4.

The Phoenix Suns cruised to a 114-97 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on November 4, 2024, capitalizing on Joel Embiid's absence. Devin Booker led the way with a stellar performance, dropping 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. The Suns' depth shone as four other players scored in double figures: Kevin Durant (27 points), Jusuf Nurkic (14 points), Grayson Allen (10 points), and Bol Bol (10 points). Bench contributions and dominance in the paint propelled Phoenix to a decisive win.

Philadelphia struggled with turnovers but saw a strong outing from Paul George, who poured in 36 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists. Tyrese Maxey (17 points) and Kyle Lowry (11 points) were the only other 76ers to crack double figures, while Andre Drummond hauled in an impressive 14 boards.

The 76ers will look to bounce back on their West Coast road trip, facing the Clippers on November 6 and the Lakers on November 8.

                      Game Recap: Philadelphia 76ers 94, Los Angeles Lakers 84 (Nov. 8, 2024)

The Philadelphia 76ers secured a hard-fought 94-84 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena, dominating the paint and controlling the boards. Paul George led the charge for the Sixers with 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Joel Embiid contributed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey (11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and Kyle Lowry (13 points) added valuable support. Andre Drummond also made his presence felt with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Despite the loss, the Lakers showed strong ball movement, leading in assists behind D’Angelo Russell’s 22 points and 5 dimes. Anthony Davis (15 points) and Rui Hachimura (11 points) were the only other Lakers to score in double figures.

The 76ers will look to build momentum as they return home for a two-game stretch against the Charlotte Hornets (Nov. 10) and the New York Knicks (Nov. 12) in their first In-Season Tournament game.

In a hard-fought battle on November 12, 2024, the Philadelphia 76ers edged out the New York Knicks, 105-96. Despite the loss, the Knicks showcased their offensive fluidity, leading in points in the paint (PIP), assists, and field goal percentage. Jalen Brunson anchored New York with 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 17 points and 8 boards. Solid scoring support came from Miles McBride (14 points), OG Anunoby (13 points), and Josh Hart (10 points), but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 76ers’ dominance on the boards and second-chance opportunities.

Philadelphia’s dynamic duo of Tyrese Maxey (25 points, 5 assists) and Paul George (23 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) led the way, while Joel Embiid made his presence felt with a monster 18-point, 18-rebound double-double. Rookie Jared McCain added a promising 13 points, and Andre Drummond controlled the glass with an eye-popping 21 rebounds.

The Knicks face a quick turnaround as they host the Cavaliers on November 13 before traveling to face the Magic in the NBA Emirates Cup on November 15.

Looking good. I've struggled with NBA Franchises as I could never find a solid set of Sliders to use. Which set do you use?
