NBA Game Recap: Philadelphia 76ers 103, Orlando Magic 102 (Emirates Cup Group Stage, Nov. 15, 2024)

In a nail-biter that went down to the wire, the Philadelphia 76ers edged the Orlando Magic 103-102 in the Emirates Cup Group Stage, despite being without star center Joel Embiid, who is sidelined for the season.

Cole Anthony chipped in with 17 points, while Franz Wagner (13 points) and Wendell Carter Jr. (11 points) also contributed double-digit scoring.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers – Emirates Cup Group Stage Recap (Nov. 22, 2024)

The Philadelphia 76ers dominated the Brooklyn Nets in a decisive 104-87 victory despite the absence of Joel Embiid for the season. Philly controlled every key statistical category except bench points, showcasing a balanced team effort. Paul George stole the show with a stellar 38-point, 7-rebound performance, supported by Jared McCain’s 20 points and 5 assists. Tyrese Maxey (11 points, 6 assists), Andre Drummond (10 points, an impressive 22 rebounds), and Caleb Martin (10 points, 5 rebounds) rounded out the double-figure contributions for the 76ers.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas poured in 34 points in a valiant effort, with Day’Ron Sharpe adding 12 points and 7 rebounds and Dorian Finney-Smith contributing 11 points. However, Brooklyn struggled with turnovers, negating their strong bench output.

The 76ers look to continue their momentum with back-to-back home games against the Clippers (Nov. 24) and Rockets (Nov. 27).

The Philadelphia 76ers overcame the absence of Joel Embiid and a mid-game injury to Jared McCain to secure a decisive 110-94 victory over the Houston Rockets on November 27, 2024. Paul George delivered a stellar performance, leading the Sixers with 37 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists, while Tyrese Maxey added 24 points. Andre Drummond dominated the glass with an impressive 21 rebounds to complement his 15 points, and veteran Kyle Lowry chipped in with 10 points and 5 assists.

Despite the loss, the Rockets showed resilience, excelling in three-point shooting, bench contributions, and steals. Jalen Green paced Houston with 20 points, while Reed Sheppard added 17. Dillon Brooks (16 points) and Alperen Şengün (15 points, 7 rebounds) also contributed significantly.

Philadelphia outperformed Houston in field goal percentage, free throws, points in the paint, and rebounds, sealing the win with superior efficiency.

The 76ers now prepare for back-to-back road games against the Detroit Pistons on November 30 and the Charlotte Hornets on December 3.

Hornets Secure Emirates Cup Group Stage Finale Over 76ers, 114-104

In the final game of the Emirates Cup group stage, the Charlotte Hornets outlasted the Philadelphia 76ers, 114-104, effectively eliminating the 76ers from advancing due to point differential despite their 3-1 record. Missing star Joel Embiid due to a season-ending injury, the 76ers struggled to match the Hornets' balanced attack.

Charlotte dominated key areas, leading in free-throw percentage, points in the paint, bench points, blocks, and rebounds. LaMelo Ball orchestrated the victory with near triple-double numbers, scoring 29 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing out 9 assists. Brandon Miller added 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Mark Williams (12 points, 9 rebounds), Nick Richards (12 points, 6 rebounds), and Terance Mann (11 points) all contributed in double figures.

For Philadelphia, Paul George delivered an impressive 36-point, 9-rebound effort, with Tyrese Maxey adding 16 points. However, the team lacked sufficient scoring depth, as J. McCain (15 points) was the only other player in double digits.

The 76ers outperformed Charlotte in three-point shooting percentage and fast-break points, but the absence of Embiid loomed large. The team will aim to bounce back in their upcoming two-game homestand against the Orlando Magic on December 4 and 6.

                    Game Highlights:

The short-handed Philadelphia 76ers held off the Orlando Magic in a tightly contested battle, securing a 116-110 victory despite missing key players. Paul George took charge for Philly, pouring in 34 points and dishing out seven assists, while Tyrese Maxey added 22 points and six assists to propel the Sixers past a resilient Magic squad. Rookie Jared McCain stepped up with 17 points, and veteran Kyle Lowry chipped in 11 as the Sixers dominated in field goal percentage, free throw shooting, points in the paint, and rebounding.

Orlando fought hard, led by a spectacular performance from Jalen Suggs, who stuffed the stat sheet with 31 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope contributed 17 points and five assists, while Jonathan Isaac (16 points, seven rebounds), Wendell Carter Jr. (15 points, eight rebounds), and Cole Anthony (12 points) all reached double figures. The Magic excelled from beyond the arc and in playmaking but couldn’t overcome the Sixers’ efficiency inside.

The Brooklyn Nets edged out the Philadelphia 76ers in a nail-biter, securing a 112-111 victory on the road. Despite missing key players, the Nets dominated the hustle stats, leading in second-chance points, bench scoring, rebounds—especially on the offensive glass—assists, blocks, and steals. Cam Thomas powered the offense with 29 points, while Bojan Bogdanović added 20 points and eight rebounds. Nic Claxton made his presence felt with a strong double-double (16 points, 15 rebounds), and Dorian Finney-Smith chipped in 11 points.

The short-handed Sixers, without Joel Embiid and others, fought hard and led in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, points in the paint, and fast break points. Paul George put on a scoring clinic with 36 points and seven boards, while veteran Kyle Lowry dropped 24. Tyrese Maxey added 22 points, and rookie Jared McCain contributed 11, but Philly fell just short.

Looking ahead, the 76ers have two home games against Washington (Dec. 15) and Charlotte (Dec. 20). In response to their depleted frontcourt, the team signed forward/center Pete Nance to a two-way contract, aiming to bolster their depth inside.

The Philadelphia 76ers extended their winning streak to two with a 117-108 victory over the Charlotte Hornets, solidifying their position as the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference at 15-10. Despite missing superstar Joel Embiid for the season, Philly found contributions across the board, led by Tyrese Maxey’s 30 points and Paul George’s 28. The 76ers dominated inside, winning the battle in FG%, free throws, points in the paint, second-chance points, rebounds, and steals. Andre Drummond made his presence felt with a monster double-double (14 points, 17 rebounds), while Kelly Oubre Jr. (14 points), Kyle Lowry (13 points), and Guerschon Yabusele (10 points, 6 rebounds) added solid contributions. Rookie Jared McCain suffered a first-quarter hip injury but managed to finish the game.

The Hornets kept things competitive, excelling in three-point shooting, assists, and bench scoring. Brandon Miller led the way with 23 points, while Tre Mann added 20. LaMelo Ball (19 points, 10 assists) and Mark Williams (19 points, 11 rebounds) also posted impressive double-doubles.

The 76ers now shift their focus to a back-to-back set, facing the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 21 before returning home to take on the San Antonio Spurs on Dec. 23.
