A West Coast Story - College Hoops 2k8 Legacy

Keon Reid Announced as the Next Head Coach of UC Davis
    June 11th, 2007

DAVIS -- Today, UC Davis announced that Keon Reid would be their head basketball coach for their first season in the Big West conference. The Aggies had spent the previous few seasons as an independent team after moving up from Division II in 2004.

UC Davis finished 5-20 last season in their fourth season under head coach Garry Stewart. Stewart was released at the end of the year, with the school citing that they would like to "go in another direction" with their basketball program.

Keon Reid is certainly a different direction. The 30-year-old has spent the past two years as an AAU coach and trainer. Reid trained various semi-pro, collegiate, and European players while also leading one of the best AAU teams in the state. Before that, he spent several seasons on the Sacramento Kings staff in the video and training room. Many would call Reid underqualified, and that would be true if you look at his coaching experience. However, Keon Reid has experience working with players of all levels and was a JUCO basketball star himself.

Reid grew up in Oakland and knows the NorCal basketball scene as well as anyone. He brings a charisma and swagger to the Aggies that few collegiate coaches bring.

When UC Davis comes up in collegiate circles, the first thing most would recognize is their academic prowess. The school is one of the best in the nation and produces some of the brightest minds in the world. However, in the 90s, the Aggies were one of the very best Division-II teams in the NCAA, with six straight tournament appearances and a national title. In 2004, the school moved up to Division-I. It played three seasons as an independent and will now move into the Big West.

Re: A West Coast Story - College Hoops 2k8 Legacy

    Overview:

The number one guy who can't stick to a dynasty is back, I of course want to stick with one long-term but haven't found the right mix to keep my attention. I've been really tempted to return to College Hoops 2k8 for the past year. Originally I wanted to bring back my PJ Valentine coaching legacy however, I lost it when I had to completely reset my PS3 earlier this week. I'm really excited for this dynasty as I've never on either NCAA football or CH2k8 done a West Coast dynasty.

Special thanks for the inspiration to Trekfan, kibaxx7, marshdaddy, focer4, Xanax, Studbuckets and superjames1992

    System/Game: College Hoops 2k8, PS3
    Rosters: 2007-08
    Difficulty: All American
Sliders: Custom Sliders (Essentially default with just a few tweaks)
    Half Length: 14 Minute

    House Rules:

I plan to play 15-20 games each regular season and at least one game against each of my conference opponents. While I'm at a smaller school, I'll play all games against power conference schools and all post-season games.

I don't have any recruiting house rules at the moment however, that may change.

Is this a closed dynasty and you chose UC Davis, or an open one? If open, why UC Davis?
?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

?Ask me about the Xbox Ally handheld - I'm on the team that made it.

          It is a closed legacy,

So the main reason I chose UC Davis was location. On both NCAA football and College Hoops 2k8, I've always done my legacies/dynasties in the South. With a few short spurts in the Midwest. I wanted to do something out West, face different teams and play in different conferences. Of course with CH2k8 you never know where the road will take you. So where I finish may not be out West.

It came down to four schools for me, Sacramento, UC Davis, UC Riverside and Long Beach State. I wanted to play the teams in the Big West more than Big Sky so I ruled out Sacramento. Then Long Beach's roster was too good and UC Riverside I just didn't want to do for some reason.

Sounds awesome. I love the closed legacy approach and wish more sports games did it.

              UC Davis 2007-08 Season Preview

Aggies Predicted to Struggle this Season

For UC Davis, their first season in a division one conference likely won't be a pleasant one. Despite bringing in a brand new coach, talent-wise they will likely be overmatched in every single game.

Experience won't be their friend either, with the team having no seniors on it. Coach Reid's experience as a coach is also in question, as he has only spent a few years as an actual coach.

Vince Oliver is the team's most recognizable player and one who could have a big season for the Aggies. The 6'3 Junior guard isn't the best shooter on the floor but he can get to the paint and score.

Where UC Davis does shine however, is height. The team has size at every position and should be one one of the tallest teams in the conference. The only position where they're lacking height is point guard. 7'2 big man Michael Moore will run into few players with his size.

Then there is two players worth mentioning who won't be on the team. Todd Lowenthaal and Joe Harden. Are both transfer players who likely could've made an impact on this team, however, Coach Reid will have to wait till next year to use them.

It's probably the most replayable and interesting career/dynasty mode in any sports game. I'm not sure if many other games could do something similar but it's so much fun.

Tuesday morning, ahead of tomorrow nights game against New Mexico State first-year head coach Keon Reid has released the depth chart for the game. For the most part there was no surprises except for one. As Dominic Calegari will be starting at Power Forward.

Around the school, many had predicted that Reid would go with the line up of Lopez Low and Michael Boone as the starting bigs. Boone offers excellent size standing 7'2 and weighing over 280lbs. However, Calegari will be starting at power-forward. Calegari does bring some size standing 6'9, however, his biggest asset is his shooting. He's not an elite shooter but he can knock down a three when left open. Michael Boone, is by far the slowest player on the team and one of the least skilled outside of a few feet from the basket. Calegari will allow the Aggies to run a more fast paced offense. It's likely that Keon Reid is going to be electing to run a four-out offensive scheme in his first season.

This means that Junior Jesse Lopez Low will be the starting Center. Lopez Low is more naturally slotted at the four spot but he brings a mix of offensive and defensive skills which will allow him to easily play the five.

Thanks for the support, glad to see you back around. I'm definitely glad to get back in here and posting.

I've only played 2k7 on PS2 and it was some good fun. I think you'll enjoy it if you ever check it out.

We'll have to compete for that title, right now your pacers dynasty is looking good. Hopefully, none of us win because I'd like to make this legacy last a long time and I've been enjoying Reggie + J-Rose.

New Mexico St. has no Problem with UC Davis
                        November 14th, 2007

LAS CRUCES -- Wednesday night, New Mexico State and UC Davis met in an expected blowout. The New Mexico State Aggies were coming off an opening night win last week. While for the UC Davis Aggies this was their first game.

Early in the game UC Davis and New Mexico St. went shot for shot. The UC Davis Aggies were led by Junior guard Vince Oliver. Oliver seemed to be one of the few options UC Davis could turn to. Bailing them out late in the shot clock. For the New Mexico State Aggies they were able to find production from their freshman point guard Jaydee Luster. Luster scored eight of his twelve points in the first six minutes of the game.

However, once things started to get settled in New Meixco began to make a run to separate the game. UC Davis began to struggle to put the ball in, with three of their five starters shooting a combined 3 for 16. Oliver even struggled turning the ball over twice on back-to-back possessions. Paris Carter came in off the bench for New Mexico and lit UC Davis up. Carter was unstopable working the pick and roll with Hatila Passos. Passos was another bench standout for New Mexico State. He took advantage of Michael Boone's lack of speed and was even stealing rebounds from the seven footer.

When the second half started, UC Davis was able to find some offense from sixth man Nate Clark. Clark hit three shots from deep in the second half, briefly putting UC Davis back in the game. The only other bright spot in the second half for UC Davis was Junior Center Jesse Lopez-Low. Lopez-Low worked a great pick and roll game with Vince Oliver. He also was able to position himself to score off several missed shots and playing solid defense.

The second half was more of what the late first half was. UC Davis struggling on offense while New Mexico State had their way. Although around the eight-minute mark New Mexico state put in their bench which did allow UC Davis to cut the lead by a small amount. Overall this game was as expected, the talent level of the New Mexico State Aggies was too much for the small school from California.

Yeah I really hope you can keep this going, there's not a lot of college dynasties going on. About my Pacers, not sure at the moment, there's a lot of ideas in my head. So we'll see what happens in a month or two.
