Re: Glory Days Boxing

Just had another really great heavyweight fight and it resulted in my first split decision.

Jerry Quarry won the decision 96-93, 94-93, 93-95 over Chris Byrd.

Quarry scored 2 knockdowns to Byrd's 1 which wound up being the difference but Quarry himself was on the edge of disaster up to the final bell.

Quarry received 4 warnings from referee Elmo Adolph (holding twice, continuing after the bell and low blow). Another foul of any kind would have resulted in a point deduction that would have turned this decision into a draw.

Additionally, Quarry (who is known to be a bleeder) had his right cheek opened up 3 times and had already been checked out by the doctor after the 3rd time. The fight was allowed to continue but a fourth incident could have easily resulted in the fight being stopped.

I'll be scheduling these two to fight again at some point as this fight (and many others I've posted here) is part of a "Career League" replay that I'm doing.

Re: Glory Days Boxing

Another rematch is going to be in works after my latest title bout in my Career League.

If you want to know how a Career League works, watch this video. It will give you the basics of how it works and mine is similar with a few tweaks.

https://youtu.be/AuMGK3xHvrw

The champion of my fictional Unified Boxing Federation is James Jefferies. The start date I chose for my federation was January 2000. I selected 41 fighters at random to start.

In January, Jefferies knocked out Abe Simon at 1:54 of round 11 to defend his title.

His 2nd opportunity came in May (I'm in June now) as he scheduled a bout with Joe Frazier.

Frazier won his first fight by TKO (2:48 RD 7) in February over Ray Mercer.

Frazier-Jefferies went the full 12 rounds and the title came down to the scorecards.

Adelaide Byrd 117-114 Frazier
Larry Rozadilla 116-115 Jeffries
Terry O'Connor 115-115

Yes, a draw. Jeffries retains the title but you can bet I'll be giving Frazier another shot at him soon!

Of course Byrd's card is significantly different than the other two!

Yes sir!

In this game you have the option to use real referees and/or judges. The game has 21 of each rated.

I only use real ones on cards that have a title fight. I'll randomly select 3 referees and 4 judges to cover my 5 bout card. Byrd, of course, sees things differently than everyone else.

Re: Glory Days Boxing

Steelerfan, you seriously need to provide writeups for your career.
I'm very tempted to grab copy of this myself.

See the video in post number 18. The creator of the game explains it. Mine is set up very similarly with the big exception being that I chose 41 heavyweights at random instead of going by debut date.

Also, I'm doing a flat 5 fights per month instead of a random number each month. Just my preference for now.

I'm almost done with June 2000 (two fights to go) and should finish tonight. I suppose I could give a recap of the first 6 months and then a brief recap each month thereafter but the days of big write ups (which I never did here at OS) are behind me.

As for the game, it is so much fun! My understanding is that shipping to Canada is very expensive so buying the pdf version and then taking it to get printed and have the cards cut may be your best option.

For the full game bundle I paid $65 plus $8 and change shipping. I'm told shipping to Canada is close to $50. You could get the pdf version for, I believe, $26 and then get it all printed on card stock (he uses 130) and even have the printer cut the cards and you would come out way ahead of the approximately $125 US you'd spend to have it shipped.
