Dagenham '17-18 Season
End of the Season Update
League Match 30
Chelsea - Dagenham (0-1)
Reyna 36'
Recap: The showdown between the top two teams in the BPL went to the Daggers who have now beaten Chelsea in both matchups this season. Reyna is starting to get hot after finishing March strong. We outshot Chelsea 6-2, 5-1 on goal.
League Match 31
Aston Vila - Dagenham (2-1)
Clark 36'
Sylla 42'
Reyna 83'
Recap: If we ever have to face Andrea Consigli ever again it'll be two times too many. UNREAL that in a game we outshot the opponent 15-6, 13-2 on goal, they scored on their only 2 shots on target while Consigli gobbled up 13 saves (THIRTEEN!) to rightfully finish as the MOTM with a near perfect rating of 9.8. Disgusting. But as luck would have it, they're actually our next opponent in the F.A. Cup ...
F.A. Cup, Semi Finals (at Wembley Stadium)
Aston Villa - Dagenham
League Match 32
Dagenham - Newcastle Utd (1-0)
Nimely 45'
Recap: A game that was a bit easier than the score indicates (we outshot Newcastle 10-2, 9-1 on goal) against a team that will see again for the last time this season in the F.A. Cup final.
League Match 33
Tottenham - Dagenham (3-1)
Chadli 27'
Sarr 39'
Lamela 56'
Chadli 70'
Recap: Gareth Bale was deadly on point all game long and we clearly don't match up well with the Spurs. Bale assisted on the first two goals and made the Spurs' dagger happened as well when his rocket shot from the right bounced off Leali and towards a wide open Chadli who put the ball at the back of the net. Chelsea, on the other hand, does not let down and is starting to run away with the league title.
MAY
League Match 34
Dagenham - Manchester City (1-0)
Wilkinson 83'
Recap: Early in the season we outplayed these guys thoroughly but lost 0-1. This time around we performed the same way but came away victorious thanks to a clutch header from our best defender. Man City only was able to get off ONE shot, which wasn't even on goal, while we took 15 shots (8 of them on target).
League Match 35
Dagenham - QPR (2-3)
Reyna 28'
Ings 33'
Hoilett 55' (P)
Wilkinson 82'
Hoilett 90' (P)
Recap: Welp, that's probably it for our league title hopes after a crushing call against us at the end of the game gave QPR the win. It was the right call, with all credit to QPR's consistent attack. Youngster Jorge Gavilan was put in to try to add some offense but he made a mistake on a handball in the air on a QPR counterattack and the visitors made us pay. Time to focus on earning a Champions' League spot.
League Match 36
West Ham - Dagenham (3-2)
Ngando 9'
Diakite 13'
Ngando 29'
Diakite 57'
Caseres 66'
Recap: The 2nd East London Derby of the season was an entertaining back-and-forth battle that saw Ramiro Caseres make a timely comeback to the scoring sheet to give us the victory. Caseres, filling in after the departure of James Collins, hadn't scored since the F.A. Cup quarter finals in March and hasn't been able to fully fill that void. Nevertheless he was clutch on this day to keep us in the hunt for a Champions spot.
F.A. Cup Final - Wembley Stadium
Dagenham - Newcastle Utd
League Match 37
Dagenham - Swansea City (0-0)
Recap: With just one day of rest after the F.A. Cup final we had to resort to playing our B team in this one and even though they played well we were unable to break through against a tougher than expected Swansea team.
League Match 38
Dagenham - Sunderland
Kim 90+
Recap: We came into this game already assured a 4th place finish but we needed a win and maybe more to jump over Arsenal for 3rd place. Sunderland was as tough as they were against us back in October and it looked like we wouldn't be able to gather more than a draw until Kim broke into the box from the right away just before the final whistle and launched a strike with his left foot to the left post and in, giving us the victory. All for naught, however, as Arsenal won their game 4-0 and hung on to 3rd place due go GD.

On one hand it was disappointing to fall out of competition for the league title, and fall so far out that we even missed out on direct qualifying to the group stages of the Champions, but overall we were undoubtedly the surprise team of the season putting on several outstanding performances, winning the F.A. Cup and earning the opportunity to go head to head against the best clubs in Europe next season.
And now that the season is over, the 2018 World Cup begins!

Group A
Venezuela - Belgium (1-0)
Martinez 90+'
Recap: First of all I wanted to point out that we were placed in an incredibly difficult group. Belgium and England are elite European forces and Poland has probably as much talent as I can bring into this. This opening game was key for us and we would had been happy to come away with a draw. We played it smart, we were patient with our opportunities and played solid defense, and because of that we were able to take 14 shots, 10 of them on goal, while keeping possession for 59% of the game. Not all of our shots were of the dangerous variety but we definitely put pressure on Courtois' goal. Belgium's attack, on the other hand, had to work extra hard to get 8 shots off, none of them on target but a handful of them came really close. It looked like it'd be a scoreless draw until Josef Martinez scored in a play very similar to Kim's goal in the last game of the season for Dagenham, rocketing a left footed shot to Courtois' right side that was too well placed and too hard hit to be spot, getting us to steal 3 points in this very important opener.
Venezuela - England (0-2)
Henderson 7'
Wilshere 40'
Recap: Outstanding game by England who score both of their goals thanks to crisp passing. They were also tough defensively, with an inspired Joe Hart on goal, and they clinched a spot in the Round of 16 while sending us to a must-win game against Poland.
