Well it sucks that ECU beat us, the good news is even though Liberty by rating is the best team in the conference they are getting beat up on and are currently like 4-7.. I still expect them to put up a challenge but the game is at home and it's Senior Day.. I am pretty sure I am undefeated on Senior Day in all of my Dynasties so far. I actually have the Old Dominion game played but still got to play Charlotte who is looking for their 6th win to bet bowl eligible..

If I win out, I think I will get back to like #13-15 in the rankings and if I can win the rematch against ECU, I should be looking at a playoff seed instead of the a bowl game, but honestly I would be pretty stoked with a 10+ win season and another bowl win too. Maybe even more so then making the playoffs and losing in the 1st Round, but we will see.

GAME RECAP

FIU coming off a disappointing loss to ECU, knew that 1 more loss and any chances of a playoff spot was over as well as their stay in the Top-25.

The Panthers come out scoring quickly as Jenkins throws a pair of touchdowns to Victor Jones Jr to give FIU the (14-0) lead. FIU would add a FG midway through the 2nd Quarter to take a (17-0) lead into the half.

Old Dominion opened up the 2nd half with the ball and JR QB Colton Joseph (80 Ovr) would lead the Monarchs on a 9 play drive resulting in a 19 yd TD pass to JR TJ Lott (72 Ovr) to make it (17-6). ODU would elect to keep the offense on the field for the 2pt play but failed to convert..

FIU wasted little time expanding their lead as Jenkins and Jones Jr score the hat trick connecting 24 yd TD as the Panthers extend the lead (24-6) going into the 4th.

Still leading by 18, FIU goes to the ground game as Cole Tabb breaks a 40 yd TD run with 6 minutes to play extending the lead to (31-6).

The Monarchs however were not ready to just roll over and quit as Joseph and Lott hook up on a 50 yd bomb to make it (31-13) still with over 5 minutes to play in the game.

FIU would punt the ball with under 2 minutes to play but ODU would have a quick 4 and out putting the Panthers in FG range with 42 seconds on the clock. Say what you want to say, but rather then running out the clock with a kneel down, Coach Miller lined up SO Issac Glennon for a 31 yd FG attempt that he drills as time expires.

Coach Miller "
Quote:
I know some people might think it's running up the score, but to me every opportunity is a chance to learn and build confindence. Issac has nailed some big kicks this season for us, but he also has had his share of miss's and we felt like it was important to get him more chances at hitting kicks late in the game well tryig to make it feel like a game winner"
KEY PANTHERS

QB K. Jenkins-21/30 (70%) 270 yds 3 TD, sacked twice,
RB C. Tabb-24 carries 136 yds 1 TD
WR V. Jones Jr-7 rec 104 yds 3 TD
WT E. Cortez-6 rec 66 yds
TE D. Nannee-7 rec 94 yds

UP NEXT

With the win FIU jumps back up 3 spots in the Top-25 rankings to #14 keeping their playoff hopes alive.

The Panthers road trip continues as they fly to Charlotte in Week 11, to face the (5-5) 49's. Charlotte looking to get to their 6th win, was one of the teams to beat FIU last season as Coach Miller looks to even things up with the school.

GAME RECAP

FIU wins their 2nd straight road game over the 49's and in the process secure a spot in the CUSA title game with a rematch against East Carolina.

Charlotte opened up the game with the ball and quickly score as SR RB Terron Kellman (89 ovr) takes it 29 yds to the house capping a 7 play drive to make it (7-0), but FIU responds scoring 3 straight touchdowns to take a (21-7) lead in the 1st Quarter as Keyone Jenkins throws for 1 score and JR RB Cole Tabb runs for 2. inlcuding a 18 yd run up the middle and through 3 defenders.

Kellman would respond by scoring his 2nd rushing TD of the day to cut the lead to (21-14) but the Panthers tack on a pair of Issac Glennon FG's to extend the lead to (27-14) at the half.

FIU opened up the 2nd half with the ball as Todd scores the hat trick with his 3rd rushing TD of the game and 14th of the season making it (33-14). FIU would keep the offense on the field as Jenkins hits McNeal for the 2pt play to make it (35-14), the Panther would then force a punt and for the 2nd time this season, FIU would score on a huge special teams play as RS FR Enrique Cortez takes the punt 77 yds to the house to extend FIU's lead to (42-14).

*The punt return for a TD was the first for me in this game. I have had a couple other Kick Return TD's but typically don't have much luck getting more then 8-12 yds on a punt return.

FIU would latter add another Glennon FG to make it (45-14) as we head to the 4th Quarter.

With a 31 point lead, Coach Miller knew it was important to give his starters some rest but also to get some reserves some valuable playing time. But as the FIU Offense retook the field it was Louisville transfer SR Brady Allen behind center instead of SO Clayton Dee's.

Allen looked pretty solid completing his first 2 pass's of the game including a 70 yd bomb to Freshman TE Dominik Naanee who continues to put up insane #'s with his team leading 11th TD of the season.

Charlotte would respond with a scoring drive of their own as SR QB Max Brown (82 Ovr) keeps it himself for a 19 yd rushing touchdown to make it (52-21).

After completing his first 2 pass's Allen wasn't as sharp in series #2 as he completes just 1 of 3 attempts before throwing his first career INT, setting up another 49'er touchdown as Brown connects with SR WR Isaiah Myers (81 Ovr) on a 41 yd score making it (52-28).

FIU would would fail to pick up a 4th and 1 turning the ball back over to Charlotte on downs, but Browns pass is picked off by OLB Ronnie McRae who takes it back to the 1 yd line before being tackled as Brown saves the "Pick 6".

The Panthers however would score 2 plays later as Cash Jones punches it in from 1 yd out for the final score of the game.

Brown finished the game 20/31 (64%) for 246 yds with 1 TD and 1 INT, well adding 33 yds on the ground and another score.

RB Terron Kellman finished with 30 carries for 132 yds and 2 TD and Myers led the team with 5 rec for 90 yds and the TD.

KEY PANTHERS

QB K. Jenkins-17/43 (39%) 331 yds 1 TD 1 INT, sacked 4 times
QB B. Allen-3/6 (50%) 93 yds 1 TD 1 INT
RB C. Todd-30 carries 157 yds 3 TD
RB C Jones-8 carries 15 yds 1 TD
TE D. Naanne-7 rec 240 yds 2 TD
WR V. Jones Jr-6 rec 74 yds
WR E. McNeal-2 rec 34 yds
WR E. Cortez-2 rec 26 yds

UP NEXT

FIU moves to (8-2) with the win staying at #14 in the Polls, as they go into their Week 12 "Bye" Week.

The Panthers will return to action in Week 13 hosting (Liberty) for "Senior Night" The Flames are currently (4-6) and will need to win their final 2 games including the matchup with FIU to get Bowl Eligible.

#21 (8-3) Iowa
#22 (7-4) Texas
#23 (7-4) TCU
#24 (7-4) Alabama
#25 (7-4) Arizona State

The Top-10 saw some changes in Week 12 as #4 Miami falls to Virginia Tech (30-29) dropping to #8. and #6 Florida fell to unranked Alabama (49-41) with the Gators going to #13 and the Tide joining at #24. #8 UNC also falls (41-38) to Boston College dropping to #15 and #9 LSU falls to #1 TAMU (45-31) dropping to #19.

With the loss's several schools move up in the rankings but the biggest help was BSU going from #7 to #5, Oregon going from #11 to #7, Cincinnati jumping up from #12 to #9 and FIU going from #14 to #10.

Week 13 offers plenty of excitement as we will see #1 TAMU take on #2 Oklahoma in a undefeated battle for the SEC and we will see if #10 FIU can keep it's playoff hopes alive with a matchup with Liberty and all eyes will be on ECU will look to close out their perfect season with a road matchup @ James Madison.

CONFERENCE TITLES ON THE LINE

Miami and UNC's Week 12 loss's both gave them 2 ACC loss's on the season tying them with Clemson as the 3 teams will wait to see who will clinch spots in the title game.

#12 Purdue and #9 Cincinnati have both clinched spots in the American, now the question is can they clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Arizona can clinch a spot in the Big 12 title game with a win over instate rival Arizona State, well the Sun Devils would have to wait and see how Iowa and K-State finish.

#3 Pitt has secured a spot in the Big Ten title game as their season is over. now the question is who will be playing them. #18 Wisconsin or #7 Oregon

#14 ECU and #10 FIU have clinched spots in CUSA, like Purdue and Cincy they will be playing for not just the conference title but a spot in the playoffs.

The Mac is still Wide Open with UMass, Ball State, Akron and CMU all with 3 loss's.

New Mexico has clinched 1 spot in the MWC but Nevada, San Jose State, and Sam Houston are all still in the mix for the other spot.

#5 Boise State and #17 Washington State have clinched spots in the Pac-12 title game . BSU has won 7 straight since their loss to FIU back in Week 4. The Broncos will hope to win their Week 13 matchup vs San Diego State and another Pac-12 title because if they do it will mean a 3rd straight trip to the Playoffs.

South Alabama appears to have clinched 1 spot in the Sun Belt title game, but La Tech and Jacksonville State are still battling it out for the other.

No matter what, TAMU and Oklahoma will have a rematch in the SEC title game as Georgia, Florida and LSU all have 2 SEC loss's.

PLAYOFFS

Current Playoff projections have Oklahoma winning the SEC and securing the #1 seed with TAMU settling for the #5.

It has Pitt securing the #2 seed with a Big Ten Championship, Boise State securing the #3 seed with a Pac-12 title and Clemson securing the #4 seed with a ACC title.

Current projections have #4 Georgia securing the #6 seed, followed by #7 Oregon at #7, #8 Miami at #8.

With the last 4 spots, the computer currently thinks it will be Cincinnati and Purdue both making it with Cincy as the #9 seed and Purdue as the #12, with FIU winning CUSA and securing the #10 seed and a matchup with the Ducks, with #11 Virginia Tech getting the #11 seed.

HEISMAN TALK

Currently TAMU SR QB Conner Weigman is considered the front runner with SR QB Jackson Arnold (Oklahoma) #2. Followed by Boise State SR QB Maddux Madsen at #3, and TAMU SR RB Rueben Owens at #4 with JR QB Eli Holstein (Pitt) the lone non-senior at #5.

Weigman has 3136 yds passing with 30 TD and 10 INT well also rushing for 392 yds and 7 TD's.

Owens the lone non QB currently has 879 yds rushing with 9 TD's and 367 yds receiving with 4 TD's.

Holstein has 2642 yds passing with 28 TD's and 7 INT well also rushing for 485 yds and 7 scores.

Arnold has 2827 yds passing with 37 TD's and 6 INT well also rushing for 352 yds and 5 TD's.

Madsen leads the nation with 42 TD's and just 3 INT's well throwing for 3364 yds. He also had 265 yds rushing with 5 TD's.

**Keyone Jenkins currently leads the nation in passing yards with 3884 yds well also throwing 31 TD's and 14 INT but has just 102 yds rushing with 1 TD.

**Cole Tabb leads the nation in rushing yards with 1266 yds and is 2nd in TD's (14) behind Iowa State's Carson Hansen who has (17)

Honestly I fell both would be in the Heisman discussion if Jenkins had rushing yards and Tabb had more receiving yards.

I would think that FIU, and ECU would be reversed in the rankings.

Being undefeated in all Senior Bowl Games across all dynasties in all years is pretty cool stat to be honest. I guess it illustrates why we document this stuff sometimes.

I agree not sure why but when ECU.beat FIU they only moved up 2 spots. Also not sure they their undefeated season isn't getting more respect.

PANTHER NATION NEWS

RECRUITING

FIU will play it's final home game of the season as they host (4-7) Liberty with a slew of potential Panthers on the sideline, including 4* RB Cedric Hacker (#177 Overall#17 FL/#18 RB) from Seffner FL.

Hacker currently has the Panthers listed in his Top-5 schools but retains offers from Florida, Alabama, Utah and Virginia Tech.

Well Hackner is unsigned, Coach Miller did get some good news over the past 2 weeks as both 4* WR Ryan Kunaszyk (#131 Overall/#11 FL/#22 WR) and 4* RB Tavon Logan (#344/#35/#33 RB) both have officially signed their letters of intent.. Kunaszyk becomes the highest rated high school recruit ever signed by FIU.

Well fans are excited about Kunasyk's potential and the added depth next year at WR, fan's can't stop talking about Logan and what it means to the future at RB for the Panthers.

FIU also got great news this week as 3* RG Clay Phenix (#676 Overall/#82 FL/#35 G) has agreed to join his brother DE Martin Phenix (#1855 Overall/#215 FL/#59 DE) who had committed earlier in the season.

Coach Miller
Quote:
"Clay was more sought after by several other programs including UCF and FAU so this was a big win for us. I know playing early was a big deal to him and well we are recruiting several other offense lineman, him being the first to sign will give him a inside shot at playing next year vs being redshirted"
The Offense wasn't the only one to get some future recruits, as DC Robert Brooks secures a verbal from MLB Soni Yoon (#817 Overall/#98 FL/#35 MLB)

With just 6 LB's set to return next season Yoon could very well see action as a true Freshman unless FIU add more depth late in the off-season and the Portal.

TITLE/PLAYOFF HOPES

To be completely honest I am not sure you could find a FIU fan who thought that in Year 2 the Panthers would be competing not only for a CUSA title but also a spot in the 12 team playoffs. But here they are. FIU will still need to take care of business against Liberty in Week 13, but it appears that a rematch with ECU is a for sure thing with the winner securing a seat at the playoff table.

AWARDS

With 2 games to play, several Panthers including HC Matt Miller and Coordinators Charles Clement and Robert Brooks are still in the hunt for some trophy hardware.

Miller is currently 4th in the voting for College Football's Coach of the Year (trailing Pitt's Pat Narduzzi, ECU's Blake Harrell and TAMU's Mike Elko)

Clement and Brooks are both in the Top-10 discussion for the Broyles Award given out to the Top Coordinator but right now many think it's a 2 man race between the ECU OC and DC with Oklahoma DC Zac Alley currently 3rd.

Despite closing in on 4000 yds passing and having 31 TD's reports are QB Keyone Jenkins is not currently on any of the Top-10 discussions for post season awards, however RB Cole Tabb and TE Dominick Naanee are.

Tabb is currently battling TAMU Rueben Owen and Iowa State's Carsen Hansen for the Doak Walker Award given to the nation's "Best RB"

Naanee just a Freshman is currently running away with the John Mackey Award given to the "Best TE" in college football.

JENKINS NFL BOUND

Reports from several NFL scouts, say that Keyone Jenkins despite his INT struggles and his 6'0 195lb frame is still viewed as a potential pick in this year's NFL Draft. Projections have Jenkins going anywhere from the 5th-7th Round.

Jenkins will most likely leaving FIU as the school's leader in Passing Yards and Touchdowns in a Career/Season and Game.

REBUILDING OF THE COACH STAFF

Well having success nationally on both sides of the ball is a good thing cause it leads to win's, it also leads to other schools trying to poach and promote your coaching staff.

This year is no different. FIU's Offense currently ranks #2 in the nation in scoring (39.9 Avg, TAMU is first at 40.0) ahead of other schools like Cincinnati (37.4) Boise State (36.5) and Oregon (35.5), which makes OC Charles Clement a hot commodity. Reports are Mississippi State HC Jeff Lebby is pushing hard to make Clement a offer to join the Bulldogs next season.

Last year DC Robert Brooks interviewed for HC vacancies at both North Texas and UL Monroe. Now reports are that the the Rice Owls are circling with hopes of offering Brooks another chance a at a HC job.

Coach Miller
Quote:
"It's not a surprise to me. When you hire good coaches and you have success then that means other schools want a chance to bottle some of that success in hopes that it will help them. FIU did it with me coming from BSU and I am am not going to hold these guy's back from having that somewhere else even if it means rebuilding the staff here at FIU"
