WEEK 13 AROUND THE NATION RECAP

    DOWN GOES FRAZIER

Week 13 brought us 6 loss's inside the Top-10 including #10 Oregon and #11 Miami.

#7 Georgia Tech falls to instate rival Georgia (31-28) With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to #11 in the rankings but will play in the ACC Championship game vs #2 FIU.

#8 TCU falls to Texas (35-29). With the loss the Horn Frogs leap to #13 but will still play in the Big 12 Championship game vs #18 Oklahoma

#9 Stanford falls to #4 Notre Dame (28-6) dropping to #12 in the rankings. The Cardinals will take on Boise State in the Pac-12 Championship game with a playoff spot on the line.

#12 UCLA fell to USC (31-20). The Bruins completely drop out of the playoff rankings as they drop to 8-4 on the season.

    MOVING ON UP!!

The Jefferson's are not the only one's Moving on Up With all the loss's several teams make big jumps in the rankings going into Championship Week and now have a shot at making the playoffs.

Kansas State won't play in th Big 12 Championship, but the Wildcats should make the playoffs at (9-3) as they beat Kansas 34-13 to move from #13 to #7.

Boise State defeats BYU 34-16 and jumps from #14 in the rankings to #8. As they will prepare to take on #12 Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship with a playoff spot on the line.

Penn State jumps 7 spots from #16 to #9 with a 24-13 win over Pitt.. The Nittany Lions won't play in the Big Ten Championship and instead will just settle for a #9/#10 type seed.

#15 Tulane jumps up 5 spots to #10 with a 43-21 win over UAB.. The Green Wave is the only other team besides Ohio State and FIU to finish the regular season a perfect 12-0.

    NEW PLAYOFF PROJECTIONS

Championship Week will play a major role in what actually becomes our Final 12.. Right now as it sits 9 out of the 12 teams in the current projection are currently set to play in their Conference Championships.

#12 (10-2) Stanford (Pac 12) vs #5 (11-1) Notre Dame (Big Ten) winner vs #4 (12-0) Tulane (Sun Belt)

#9 (9-3) Boise State (Pac-12) vs #8 (9-3) Kansas State winner would face #1 (12-0) Ohio State (Big Ten)

#11 (9-3) Georgia Tech (ACC) vs #6 (11-1) Duke winner would face #3 (10-2) Alabama (SEC)

#10 (9-3) Penn State vs #7 (10-2) Tennessee (SEC) winner would face #2 (12-0) FIU

All is good.. Spring weather is here which means I am out on the Disc Golf Course more.. I had a my 2nd tournament last Saturday (took 2nd, losing on the last hole of Round 2).. I also have a bigger B tier tournament this coming Saturday and then have 2 more coming up early May, so I tend to try and get out and practice more.. I am not a Pro or anything or get to tour the nation playing it, but I typically play 15-20 events here in the PNW.. Also on Wednesday, Warszone dropped the Verdansik map again, so all my old Warzone buddies are trying to get me to play more..

But don't worry I plan on getting in some updates today.. It's the only Saturday I have off from other things pretty much for the next 7 weeks.

          CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK

          BIG TEN

          #1 (12-0) Ohio State vs #3 (11-1) Notre Dame

The Buckeyes are back for a 4th straight trip to the Big Ten title game looking to do what they did last year and head into the playoffs with a perfect record.

2 straight loss's by the Oregon Ducks opened up the door for the Irish to win on the other side setting up a rematch from Week 10, Notre Dame's only loss of the season (38-24)..

The Irish gave up 341 yds and 5 scores on the ground, with Ohio State QB Abdual Diabate throwing for a season low 116 yds with 1 INT..

Will Diabate make his return after missing the past 3 weeks? Or has SO Nick De La Rosa taken over.. De La Rosa has 858 yds with 5 TD and 1 INT over the last 3 games..

          ACC

          #2 (12-0) FIU vs #11 (9-3)

FIU will go into the game riding a 44 game winning streak as they look to see if they can make it 3 straight years without a loss. The Panthers and Yellow Jackets didn't meet during the regular season.

G.T. was riding a 5 game win streak of their own going into Week 13's matchup with instate rival Georgia but well (31-28) to the Bulldogs.

FIU SR QB Kevin Pounds is just 11 yd shy of become the All-time NCAA Passing Yards leader but G.T has has pretty good QB too.. JR Enrique Joy jas 2954 yds with 33 TD and 6 INT this season...

          SEC

          #4 (10-2) Alabama vs #6 (10-2) Tennessee

The Tide and Vol's didn't meet during the regular season. Both teams are riding 8 game win streaks to get here..

          BIG 12

          #13 (9-3) TCU vs #18 (8-4) Oklahoma

The Sooners are headed back to the Big 12 title game after rejoining the conference this past season..

It's been a up down season for HC Nate Phenix (former OSU OC) they have lost 3 of their past 6 games including loss's to Oregon, K-State and Iowa but they beat Oklahoma State and Tulsa to make the Championship.

TCU's season started rough as they lost to Ohio State and Oklahoma State but they then went on a 8 game winning streak before losing in Week 13 to Texas (35-39)..

These 2 teams didn't play each other during the regular season.

          PAC-12

          #8 (9-3) Boise State vs #12 (10-2) Stanford

The Cardinals left the Big Ten and found instant success back in the Pac-12 going 9-1 this season.. The Broncos went just (7-3) but clawed their way to the Championship by winning their last 5 games..

The trend continues as these 2 programs didn't meet during the regular season as the Broncos played Cal and UCLA (2 of their loss's)

The winner will most likely make the playoffs so a win here means something..

          AMERICAN

          (7-5) UConn vs (9-3) Memphis

Neither team is ranked but seeing the Tigers in the Conference Championship in Year 1 after leaving the Pac-12 shows a change of scenery was a good move..

          CUSA

          #25 (7-5) FAU vs #17 (10-2) Louisville

It's been tough the last 10 years for FAU as they have watched FIU become a National Power with 4 National Championships , 2 CUSA titles, 5 ACC titles (potentially 6), but the Owls are finally having a good season and have a chance to claim their first Conference Championship.

With rumors of FIU, Miami and Georgia Tech all leaving the ACC after this season for the SEC, Louisville is hoping to be one of the teams invited to take their place (both teams could end up going) putting themselves back in a Power 4/5 conference.

          MOUNTAIN WEST

#16 (9-3) San Jose State vs (9-3) North Texas.

This marks the 3rd trip to the MWC Championship for the Spartans now that Boise State and Fresno State are not owning the MWC. SJSU currently would need some major upsets for any chance at the playoffs.. Vegas odds makers are putting it somewhere near 1 in a million.

          SUN BELT

          #10 (12-0) Tulane vs #22 (9-3) South Alabama

How the Green Wave isn't ranked higher after a undefeated season is beyond me.. If Tulane can manage to continue their perfect season they will make the the playoffs and currently being ranked ahead of both TCU and Oklahoma (Big 12 Champs) they will secure the #4 seed.

          MAC

          (7-5) Ball State vs #20 (10-2) Toledo

Can the Cardinals pull off the upset over the Mud Hens and take down the crown? If Coach Savage was there you know they would.

            GAME RECAP

Make it 4 in a row.. Coach Matt Miller took over a Ohio State program that was coming off a 7-6 season and hadn't won a Big Ten Championship in 11 years (2020 last one) but has since gone 53-5 in the past 4 seasons winning 4 straight Big Ten Titles well leading OSU to a National Championship in his first season.

Now the question is can he win one with his players after exiting in Round 2 of the playoffs after last years 13-0 season..

            Coach Miller
"I think going 13-0 the past 2 seasons and going into the playoffs and not performing is all people have really talked about and yeah there is some pressure going into another year with a 13-0 record) but we are proud of our 4 straight Big Ten titles and excited for another opportunity in the playoffs"
After giving up over 340 yds and 5 rushing TD's in their Week 10 loss to the Buckeyes, Notre Dame played the run pretty good today limiting the Buckeyes to just 164 yds on the ground and didn't give up a rushing TD in until midway through 3rd Quarter as Notre Dame led (17-14) at the half after a missed FG by the Buckeyes..

The Ohio State Defense stepped up huge in the 2nd half though keeping the Irish off the scoreboard.. JR SS Greg Robinson picked off SR QB Bruce Louis (93 ovr) to give the Buckeyes the ball to open after Notre Dame opened the half with the ball and De La Rosa led OSU down inside the 5 yd line to setup a 1st and goal for the 3.. With 4 chances to go 3 yd, OSU pounded the rock with JR RB Fredrick Tam who scores his 22nd TD of the season to give Ohio State the (21-17) lead.

Then later in the 4th Ohio State continued to work the clock with the ground game but were forced to turn to De La Rosa for several big 3rd down throws to keep drives alive. Facing another short 1st and Goal, Miller turned to his bag of tricks lining up Tam and McCracken in the backfield together and the entire Irish Defense bit as De La Rosa fakes the toss to Tam and instead hands off to McCracken who goes untouched into the endzone as Ohio State extended the lead to (28-17).. With a 11 point lead Ohio State continued to work the clock forcing a 4th down turnover OSU took the ball down inside the goal line yet again but facing a 4th and 2, Tam is stopped leaving Notre Dame with the ball with under 2 minutes to play and 98 yds to go.. Ohio State however sends the rush forcing 4 straight bad throws from Louis as the Buckeyes take over inside the 10 yd line allowing McCracken one more final score to seal the victory and pad his stats with his 18th rushing TD of the season. (OSU finished the year with 47 rushing TD's).

Ohio State will go into the playoffs as the #1 seed, well Notre Dame will wait to see where they fall.. (Projections have them as a #6 seed).

Good luck in the tournaments, buddy. I just stick to my street in Nuke Town. Haven't actually ran either NCAA or C.O.D. in about a week or so. Switched shifts at work.

                GAME RECAP

FIU has won 3 straight ACC titles well finishing with a perfect record of 13-0 and with back to back National Championships their win total now sits at (45, I think I miss reported the total earlier).. Can FIU make it 3 straight Natty's and a 48 game win streak or will someone knock the King's off their throne.

Georgia Tech tried it's best but came up short, after taking a early commanding (21-7) lead Kevin Pounds would throw (2) 2nd Quarter TD's to make it (28-21) at the half..

With a new NCAA All-time passing record in the books, FIU would turn to their ground game to keep the ball away from the Yellow Jackets who seemed to be scoring at will and SR Tim Trinidad delivered as the scores on a 30 yd run to tie the game (28-28) going into the 4th..

Already with 1 receiving touchdown and 1 rushing touchdown on the day Trinidad would give FIU the lead midway through the 4th with another rushing score to give FIU the 35-28) lead but Georgia Tech answered back as SO WR Keenan Brink (81 OVR) continued to make big plays scoring his 3rd TD of the game (1 rushing 2 receiving) as the hauls in a 40 yd bomb from JR QB Enrique Joy (80) making it (35-35) with 3:12 to play..

FIU looking to keep the ball out of Joy's hands and away from Brink would again turn to the ground game to chew up valuable time but a big stop by the Yellow Jackets set up a 3rd and long forcing Pounds to throw..

Pounds almost perfect on the day (1 stupid INT) would connect on with TE Tyler Bail on a 14 yd gain but the refs called him short setting up a Trevor Costanzo 44 yd FG with 1:10 to play.. Costanzo already with 1 miss on the day drills the kick to give FIU the lead (38-35) but the Yellow Jackets still armed with 1 timeout had a chance for the win.

The FIU "D" had a different plan though as RS MLB Josh Okorafor picks off Joy for a huge game saving INT..

With 19,445 yds now in his career, the only thing Pounds has left to do is pad those #'s and try and hit 20,000 in the playoffs.

                Coach Dees
"I have been around some pretty talented QB's in my day.. Some might even say I was one, but nothing close to what KP is or has done.. It's quite remarkable and to think he could have even bigger #'s if it wasn't for the fact he also has 2559 yds rushing yards with 34 TD's in his career as well including 667 yds and 7 TD's this season"
With the win FIU will claim the #2 seed in the playoffs and will await the Selection Committee decision to see who they might face in their quest for a their 3rd straight Natty...

Championship Week didn't bring us really any upset's minus FAU beating Louisville (28-13) to win CUSA and Ball State beating Top-25 ranked Toledo (28-7) but neither game factored into Selection Sunday.

#3 Alabama's (34-33) win over #6 Tennessee secured them them the SEC title and the #3 seed..

#10 Tulane defeated #25 South Alabama (28-14) to remain perfect and with the win jumps 4 spots in the rankings to finish the year ranked #6 and as the highest ranked non-power 4 school, the Green Wave secure the #4 seed and 1st Round Bye.

#4 (11-1) Duke ends up the #15 seed as the highest ranked team that didn't play in their Conference Championship Game and the Blue Devils will face a familiar opponent in Round 1 as the Selection Committee announces that ACC runner-up Georgia Tech will secure the #12 seed, as Pac-12 runner up Stanford drops to #13 in the rankings and is 1st out.

                  Coach Miller
"It's tough.. San Jose State won it's conference and finished 10-3 and Stanford despite losing to Boise State still finished with 1 less loss the G.T. but the Yellow Jackets played FIU tough and that must of been what caught the committee's eyes."
The winner of G.T./Duke will faceoff against #4 Tulane in Round 2.

Oklahoma beat TCU to win the Big 12 title (33-28) but neither team makes the playoffs but the Big 12 will still be represented as #7 Kansas State secures the #7 seed.

Notre Dame dropped from #3 in the rankings to #5 with the loss and with it secures the #6 seed.

#8 Boise State defeated Stanford (15-14) to win the Pac-12 title and with it secures the #8 seed where they will face Tennessee who drops from #6 to #9 after the loss to Alabama.. If the Broncos can win they will face their former coach in Matt Miller and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Well many still think the SEC is Top Dog when it comes to being the #1 Conference in College Football, the selection committee and rankings tell you other wise as #11 (10-2) Oregon and #10 (9-3) Penn State secure the final 2 spots giving the Big Ten 4 teams in the playoffs well the ACC ends up with 3.

Oregon will face a familiar opponent in Notre Dame with the winner taking on Alabama.

Penn State will face off against K-State for a chance at FIU

Man Tech almost ruined Pounds career night, glad he got the record in a win.

Dream scenario is OSU vs FIU in Pounds last game as a Panther

Yeah it was alot closer then I thought it would be.. To many big plays.. I am liking Ohio State's road this year better then FIU.. With Notre Dame/Oregon/Penn State/Alabama all potential matchups with the Panthers in the Semi's will be tough..

I like Ohio State's road. Tulane is undefeated and they beat some good teams in conference but they didn't really take on anyone outside the conference that makes me think they have what it takes to make a run to the Natty.

With the start of the College Football Playoffs just days away, many schools who season's have already come to a end making plans to find the guy who will turn around their program and help build them into the next Florida International..

So it's pretty fitting the the #1 target on many schools list is Offensive Coordinator Clayton Dees.. The former FIU QB who helped lead the Panthers to their first National Title is in his 4th season as the Panthers OC helping guide the Panthers to 2 more Natty's during his short coaching career..

At just 27 years old, Dees has continued to help keep FIU in the national spotlight after his former coach Matt Miller departed for Ohio State.

FIU's Offense under Dees has continued to lead the nation finishing in the Top-5 all 4 years in Passing Yards, Rushing Yards, 1st Downs and Points (averaging over 40.0 ppg).

Despite losing his Top-5 WR's off last year's roster, the FIU Offense continued to produce this year as SR QB Kevin Pounds returned to lead the team to yet a 3rd perfect season ending with their 3rd straight ACC title. But Pounds career is coming to a end as is the Panthers Top-2 rushers who have helped produce over 1500 yds and 20+ TD's..

So the question is does Dees return and find his next QB and RB or does Dees finally make the jump to HC and build up his own program away from the spotlight in Miami..

2 years ago at just 25 years old, Kentucky made a offer to the young offensive phenom after calling their former HC and current FIU HC Barry Valdez.. The Wildcats are just 5 years removed from playing for their own National Championship.. After struggling for years in the SEC, Kentucky left the conference and spent 4 years in CUSA where they won 3 CUSA titles and quickly rebuilt their reputation, winning the hearts of of local recruits. Now they are back in the SEC again ready to make another run.

However Year 1 back in the SEC didn't go as planned as Kentucky finished 5-7 missing out on a opportunity for a Bowl game. Well the timing might not have been right 2 years ago could it be now?

Kentucky isn't the only school calling though..

Jacksonville State over the past 10 years has built a name for themselves in the Sun Belt Conference. With 4 Conference titles, Jax State has made spending time in the Top-25 a staple but despite that they have struggled to make the College Football Playoffs. Could having a coach like Clayton Dees be the missing piece..

With FIU playing their final season in the ACC and making move to the SEC next season, could Coach Dees stay behind helping a new team dominate the ACC.. It's not very often a rival school makes a run at a coach from their biggest rival, but reports are East Carolina has made Coach Dees their #1 target..

ECU and FIU have had plenty of battles over the years including 2026 when FIU defeated a undefeated ECU team in the CUSA Championship getting revenge on a earlier season defeat behind 251 yds rushing by Cole Tabb.

Then in 2027, ECU defeated FIU again during the regular season but the 2 squads met in the CUSA title game both (10-2) and both ranked in the Top-10 with a spots in the playoffs on the line. Clayton Dees made his return to the starting lineup and led the Panthers to a a 32-26 victory throwing for 260 yds and 3 TD.

The Selection committee then did both schools dirty forcing a rematch with Dees once again leading the way throwing for almost 400 yds in FIU's 32-16 win.. Dees would go on to lead the Panthers to the schools first ever Natty.

We know ECU wants Dees but the question is does Dees want to trade in Panther Blue for Pirate Purple?

To those following.. I am having a hard time deciding what to do with Dees.. Part of me is ready to leave FIU and see how they fair with me not at the helm.. Can they win in the SEC without me or will be become a non Top-25 team after 4 seasons... Kentucky's roster is honestly too good.. I feel like despite being in the SEC, within 2 or 3 seasons I would already be winning and making the playoffs..

Jacksonville State currently is the team I am most interested in.. Louisiana, Tulane, South Alabama would give me some fun rivalries to build up in the Sun Belt for another couple of seasons and I think after adding a couple Sun Belt titles to Coach Dees and basically become a power like FIU, I could push them into the SEC to compete against Alabama and Auburn for the bragging state bragging rights.

I think recruiting in the South will also keep me from making the team to good to fast..

I however love ECU's stadium and uni's and honestly their roster is ready to compete for ACC titles and playoff berths as soon as FIU and Miami leave for the SEC,, UNC, Duke, NC State are all pretty solid right now, so it would still give me some fun games to play and win as i look to build ECU into a FIU type program as well..

Well I have loved my time at FIU, I am not in love with the roster once KP and Trinidad leave.. My current projected starter at QB next season is a 4* Athlete who honestly I should probably given some PT to this season, but chasing the record I wanted to give Pounds as many throws as possible. My RB is also nothing of note.. I havn't really given him any carries as well as the 3rd string and the 4* I signed that is redshirting isn't that great.. Well the WR's have played well this season outside of Sills the rest of the guy's are what they are.. TE Tyler Bail was the #1 Recruit in the country as a 5* Athlete and I am starting to think I should've put him on the Defense.. As he just doesn't seem to get open as much as I would like and when I think he is open, he ends up getting to many pass's swatted away vs making a big catch. I do have some guy's on Defense I like though and one of my thoughts was to actually following and play with all 3 teams moving forward.. FIU got a new DC last season with the departure of Coach Phenix heading to Auburn, so I might bring back a former Panther Defensive Legend as the new DC and actually play Defense for FIU games and let the CPU handle the offense... Then let Dees build his career with the new team and most likely play offense only.. Then play both sides of the ball for Ohio State. It would make my seasons last longer as especially going into summer and most likely would draw out this Dynasty until the release of next years game.

If I do run all 3 teams I am probably leaning toward Dees going to ECU, but that also means I would be factoring into the results of the Big Ten, ACC, and SEC each season, so give me some suggestions.

The other option is just leaving Dees at FIU and hope that I can land some Offensive players I am excited about next year and just enjoy the move to the SEC.. It sucks having to decide because part of me doesn't want to leave FIU in the midst of playing a 3rd perfect season but if FIU and Ohio State do meet in the Natty I feel like OSU would probably end the winning streak....

I think whatever option keep you most invested in the dynasty as a whole would be best and I think that playing 3 teams is going to be overwhelming. It would for me at least. I thought about having Kadin take over Syracuse and control him, with Ball State and Georgia as well. And it just felt like too much. I enjoy having Ball State since I just play offense for them, although with Georgia out of the playoffs I've been playing both sides of the ball, so the games are quick and are a nice break in between full games.

I'd also thought about what you mentioned with FIU and leaving Ball State to fend for themselves and while I think their prestige would keep them afloat, after bringing them from the MAC to the Big 12 I just couldn't do it and it felt more poetic to have Kadin go home than take over a Savage team at Cuse.

For you, I think Pounds taking over as HC at FIU when Valdez leaves/retires makes sesne. But if you are truly getting tired of FIU, I think Jax State would be the most exciting move. Let Pounds make his own legacy, somewhere where it doesn't look like he's carrying on the tradition left by Coach Miller ya know.

If OSU and FIU play for the Natty. I say slow, play it, and watch. Let them duke it out themselves and not let you decide the outcome.

In regards to your dilemma on the team choice. If 3 teams isn't too much, I say go for it. I like the idea of OSU playing the full game, FIU defense, and the 3rd team offense.

Are there any other teams from any other conferences you haven't played in yet during this dynasty offering? Would maybe think going Sunbelt again or staying in the ACC might cause you to lose interest.

Of the ECU/Jacksonville St. choices. I think ECU would be a good one. They have a nice big stadium, and a lot of rivals in that small area. Then again. Your idea of going to Jacksonville St. and turning them into a powerhouse to challenge Alabama, and Auburn sounds fun as well.

So Pounds will be drafted and should have a NFL career.. He is projected as a 2nd round pick.. I think if I do have Dees leave I would probably bring back a Defensive player to be the DC and then have him take over FIU as the HC when Valdez retires or moves on.. I got a couple guy's in mind.. It would also force me to play with a different offense playbook cause I would just roll with whatever OC get's hired.... I don't feel like reporting on 3 teams adds a bunch to the weekly posts but it would add more to the Recruiting recaps, and to the Season Preview putting in all the rosters, but I think it would be fun..
